I am trying to run minecraft on my eeePC and I am having trouble.
I can start and login, but then I get a vido error.
I have an eeePC T91
It has a built in Intel GMA 500, a 16 gb ssd, 1 gb ram, and virtual memory disabled.
Here is the message I get,
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

I just tested OpenGL with the NeHe lession #10 and it worked, so im not sure what the problem is.
Edit:
I just installed java today to run minecraft
I downloaded the latest drivers from asus and installed them and the problem is still happening
Umm yeah, netbooks aren't exactly made to be gaming computers...
I'm typing this from a netbook, I tried to play minecraft survival indev, and I only got like 9 FPS with tiny distance, and fast graphics settings.

A well, yeah you are right there, but maybe if he sets the fog to the nearest setting and also disable fancy graphics it could be at least playable.
But i think the game should at least start, even if the fps is crap.

Didn't eeePC's have pretty lackluster (on-board) graphics cards? It might be that your eeePC is not good enough to run Minecraft. (Not supporting certain things, like I don't know, maybe some shader techniques or something)
It has a gma 500, which I used to to some shader 3.0 programming, so its not that bad.

It's as I said. To even be able to run, it needs support for a few things. First of all, it needs support for OpenGl. It also might need some support for certain shader techniques.
I remember once trying to install a standard Lego game on my semi-high-end computer and it wouldn't install saying my graphics card is not good enough. Confused, I looked it up and it appeared my graphics card didn't have support for some arbitrary shading technique that the Lego game needed.
The reason it requires shader is because programmers use shaders to do diferent bits of processing, becasue GPU's can do some stuff faster than CPU's.

according to the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_500 it does support both opengl 2.0 and directx 9, so shaders wouldn't be a problem as well. like I said the game should at the very least start.
I'm sure it's just a driver or java related problem.
yeah, I've been looking through the support session and it seems that this is happening to a lot of folks using intel based GPUS after the last update, maybe notch updated the LWJGL libraries and that introduced this problem, but that's just me speculating.
Note- I am playing on a snow map with max view and full everything.
I will hit about 60fps
I have windows 7 and a very capable pc.
That may have to do with windows 7, I have seen it clamp some applications to 60 fps even when they could run faster, I use XP on my main computer and Alpha runs at 200 fps with everything at max.

Unfortunately there isn't a fix for it as of now.
Ok that makes sence, hopefully there will be a fix so that I play it when I'm not at home.

try the web browser..
Unfortunatly I dont have enough RAM to run both Minecraft and a browser on my eeePC, I even have mess around with the settings in XP to get enough free RAM.
i tried playing minecraft on my acer aspire one A150 netbook. it ran at such a low framerate it was unplayable, which is what i expected. i don't think you're going to be able to run it very well even if you get past your errors. doing some quick searching about the t91 and the intel gma 500, it looks like the drivers available suck and it's not very good for gaming anyway.
I've got the T91mt and even upgrading the RAM to 2gigs I can't run it. I've heard people using "custom drivers" to run it, but only just barely. I never had any luck getting the game to load on this, so I've just been running minecraft on other computers.
So I kind of gave up on running minecraft on it... on the upside with only a few modifications to one of the conquest.ini files and changing the resolution, it can run civilization III just fine.. It's not much for the way of gaming really.
I have an Acer netbook with Intel GMA950 onboard graphics and can't play using the download client, but i CAN play using the browser client. playing on peaceful/fast graphics and tiny render distance, i can mine and build just fine, albeit still laggy when sun sets or rises and when exploring new areas outside of my current build area; it hasn't stopped me from playing for hours, hehe.

And yes, I think a java reboot and driver update ought to do you some good.
It's a netbook.
and yes updating your drivers and reinstalling java should clear out the problem.
