I wonder if there will come to be pine trees eventually, too. Pine 'leaves' could deal minor damage if you ran into (or punched) them, but would otherwise stay solid/green all year 'round. Pine cones, maybe syrup, and a different wood type, anyone?

I think pine trees would be cool to vary up the flora a bit. I don't think you should take damage from them though; needles aren't really that dangerous. Plus, that'd be kind of annoying when running through the wilderness, having to dodge trees for fear of getting hurt.
I'd also like to see self reproducing trees (maybe during the spring?) where pre-planted tree sprouts could have a small chance of generating within 5-10 blocks around any tree.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

I think autumn and winter should be cloudy and somewhat darker. As well as being realistic (For some people), it might make it easier for mobs to spawn.
HEHEH, maybe there should be hail in autumn... Wood, gold and dirt would get cracked after being hit by enough hailstones, and you would take half a heart of damage if you got hit... so get indoors. Actually, if you start out in spring, this wouldn't be a bad idea. By then, you would probably have at least a stone base (If you use bases), and you'd have plenty of experience with the area. Mobs outside could by wiped out by the hail, so when the hail stops, you'll know that most outdoor mobs have been killed or close to it.
EDIT: As for season length, I would have to say around 15 days, or five hours of gameplay.
I think we should base it in my state, California.
Spring : Warm and sunny
Summer: Warm and sunny
Autumn : Warm and sunny
Winter : Slightly chilly

why am i in California right now freezing my ass off in the middle of summer then.

Matt, seriously, stop trolling. So can you please shut the **** up and go troll the infdev forums about how much you want to get 10 bucks from your hobo house?
We need required warmth/food/water to add a little more to seasons besides aesthetics and some minor gameplay changes, in my opinion. Then it'll be REAL survival.
I agree. Maybe pigs and sheep shouldn't spawn and crops shouldn't grow without a heated room in the winter. It would make food more scarce and require the player to have a cache of food to survive until spring. Also fur clothing and camp fires/fireplaces would be needed.
Fall: Rainy, Cold, trees dying
Winter: REALLY****INGCOLD, Freezing rain, no snow whatsoever
Spring: Kinda cold, rainy all the time
Summer: Hot as all holy hell, no rain or clouds at all

I am NOT going to see friend requests, so stop sending them.
Spring: Flowers would randomly spring up on grassy patches, typically near trees. Trees would grow faster.
Summer: Typical Minecraft day, akin to what a normal map in Alpha is right now. There would be an extremely slight chance that a fire would break out near wooded areas.
Autumn: When cutting trees, leaves would fall faster and drop more saplings. The leaves would be slightly orange/red/yellow, and the grass would turn an orange-brown color. Sheep and Pigs would be less common (blah blah so they don't hibernate who cares).
Winter: Snow. Leaves would become an icy blue-white color. Ice. Trees would take longer to grow.
Also, an offtopic suggestion: Perhaps redstone torches could be placed under a layer of glass (with a layer of water on top) to make a heated pool? Yes, I'm peddling the hot spring idea again. Bite me, I want it to happen!

Where I'm from Spring is the rainiest season, fair sure.
Spring: Hot
Summer: Cooler on the Sun than here
Fall: Hot
Winter: Warm
Although, we've actually had snow recently in past years. 25 years without the stuff then it starts snowing...

He could make into a "branches" box. Without leaves.
A upstanding citizen.

It's all the same to me, bring on the boats.
