found a mouth to a cave at on the ground, going inside the earth.
I started traveling 30 or so blocks in, then i hit a wall.
I thought to myself "This is a good spot to start my base"
After digging approximately 50 blocks in, 6x6 wide hall way I hit it.. the Neverending Cavern.
There seems to be no end in sight.
I have went exploring into this cavern, and I have yet to hit an ending.
It spreads in multiple directions.. I have found multiple water and lava falls.. streams..
I have traveled for at least an hour in here.
I plan to make a large track from the start of the tunnel going all the way through it.
If I get lucky I'd find such a cavern more often in new world spawns. You could literally spend an IRL day exploring it, finding metric ass-tons of iron and gold.
I've found a cavern or two like this. One I spent a 2-3 hours every day exploring for 3 days. Finally got the entire thing stripped of all resources (200+ iron, 64+ gold, too much coal, but no diamond!!) and covered in torches. Then I notice a small gap above some gravel and I realize there was even more! I found about another 20% of what I had already found. And it all started with my looking into a giant pit and thinking "damn I sure wouldn't want to fall dow-AHHHHHHHHHHHHH". Definitely the most fun I have had is just exploring these massive cave systems.
I'm exploring one of these types of cave systems now, halfway through I found a super-massive pit (there were 3 actually making up one big one) that took me from the surface layer all the way down to the lava layer where diamond and redstone dust reside. I better hurry and get all I can grab before the monster code gets updated, there have been none anywhere down here and I'm playing on hard :tongue.gif:
I found a similar kind of cave complex today. It had loads of redstone and gold, not to mention some epiclava falls. Now all I need is to find diamond so I can mine me some obsidian.
The only downside to exploring caverns like these--besides getting lost, of course--is the amount of torches you have to spam on them. I emptied out almost two full stacks of torches on what I think is only a fraction of the cave complex. :/
I was disappointed when the cave finally stopped..
As i turned around to go out of the cave, i looked upwards to see that it just kept going.
Edit1: And yes, Im going to collect as much iron as I can and make a huge track through this massive thing.
Edit2: I ran out of torches, even though i brought 3 stacks of torches with me plus a stack of wood.
Edit3: Omg wth.
The thing just twisted into a giant circle.
Edit 4:After getting lost for 30 minutes, I finally found my way back towards the middle of the Cavern.. which i accidentally entered through a unexplored section.
After falling into a underground waterfall (which i happened to discover as i fell into it) and basically being washed further away from my position as I wasnt full attention.. i decided to dig upward.
I pierced a lake, almost killing myself and flooding the cavern into nothing. Luckly i reacted quickly enough to cover the hole, and drained the water out of the entrance so i can go in and out of that way if need be in the future.
I was even MORE lucky that i place gaint towers around the opening of the cavern (my home) I was able to spot the directional towers from a distance, in which case I was able to get back home.
There is still more to explore, but I am just happy to be home :smile.gif: nice and safe.
Maybe ill go check inside..... and see if i can see where i got lost..
OOO Looky, a massive hole I never saw before.. i guess ill fall into it and DIE! /sacrism.
after dieing due to falling into a massive hole, i was easily able to make it back home again (luckly I emptied my inventory).
I am going to build myself a nice house, and just stay in there forever.
I hit upon a huge cave when they first came in i thought it was going to be a common occurrence. Haven't found another one since, just crappy dead enders.

Yeah same, infact, ive dug out 3 massive shafts right to the bottom of the map(I have finally seen a hole in the world! yay! And no I did not fall through it as I dont dig below me, and I had to hunt to actually find a hole)
But as of yet ive not found any massive caves, even digging through the cave dirt/gravel hasnt given me more then another small dead end cave(with lava though!)
The upside though, I now have a 2x2 staircase directly from my base, and then a few blocks over I have a 5x5 staircase down to the same point, which I will use to mine sideways now in hopes of finding any caves.
did you just make FIVE ****ing posts in a row? do you know what the edit button is for?
thats really unacceptable dude. you will now be burned and your ashes used as a spice for my pig farm's pig food.

Matt, seriously, stop trolling. So can you please shut the **** up and go troll the infdev forums about how much you want to get 10 bucks from your hobo house?
That's why you bring a metric tonne of sticks. If you run out, you can just make more! And bring a furnace too. Then you can make more Iron picks when you need to.

Too many Pics, idk how to do a video.
How do i do a Video?
I had a cavern like this, never found its end. Hauled 1,000 iron out of it at least before i gave up on the map.
I also used all 1,000 iron and then notch didnt break the saves, so i ditched that map lol.
Also, i used that iron to make enough track to fill a large chest and then some.

Still, gotta love 'em for their epicness.

What an impatient beast.

Who posted five times in a row?
With the new badie spawn sounds it's even worse. No winding narrow tunnels!! Only the reconstructive arm of sentient man will be found in my Dystopia.
