I think you're all overreacting. Yes, I'm sure it ruins a lot of your crazy contraptions. Yes, I'm sure it sacrifices compactness to allow a quicker learning curve.
However, I'm also sure that it makes things more intuitive and understandable. Also, it prevents a lot of accidental connections through walls.
Keep in mind this isn't a finished product, and I'm sure Notch realizes that it doesn't work exactly how everyone wants it to.

Logic gates aren't really canon with the main gametype of survival. THEY AREN'T FINISHED.
Lets keep things simple and you can keep your simulated computer within a computer to creative.
Why on earth would you need to make a combination lock when in SMP this will probably just be coded in.
Why would Notch take the time to code in combination locks? Are you expecting him to make some kind of keypad block? I think not. If you don't know how to make simple locks using the new features, get somebody else to do it or make different kinds of protection.
Edit: Another thing, just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's complicated. If you take the time to try and learn how to make a combination lock, you'll see how simple it really is.
that "silly" wire contraption will blow up your entire base when you walk in the door have a nice day :biggrin.gif:
also this update really didn't help much who was having a problem with the way the torches worked? it wasn't very hard to figure out i think we should go back
and i really don't care if the wires are destroyed when you walk on them or not if they are its just a little more work we have to put in to cover them
I don't think Notch made the changes because the old method was broken in any way, it just makes it easier to use. It doesn't change anything except size, the way it works is still the same except you have to use a little more red dust than usual.
I have a feeling Notch read some things in forum and he wanted to simplify it or make it easier. I think Notch wanted this game to be pick up and play, not have a prerequisite knowledge about logic gates. So quite your bitching.
It does cause limitations though. Try building a wall on which any brick's removal trips a circuit behind. It's possible using the old system and two layers but not using the new system. It IS limited. The proposed red block method would work better, too.
Actually, it is possible, but I will say that we need red blocks, and I'm sure Notch realized what he was doing and has already thought about all this. After all, he is a game designing god.
seriously, it is not called HERP DE DERP CIRCUITCRAFT or 8BITCOMPUTERSCRAFT, the new red dust works better for the game, not the crappy game inside the game. no matter how much you whine and complain, logic gates will never be the focus of the game, and if you dont like that, find a different game

You clearly underestimate the fun to be had by a non-computer-geeky person playing through a logic puzzle maze designed by a computer-geeky person.
It would be like Little Big Planet without the switches and stuff.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Gunpowder dates back to 800 AD, with the earliest written recipe being traded around 1044 AD.
So actually, you're wrong, and the "Medieval Fantasy" argument still stands.
TNT wasn't invented until the mid 1800's, and wasn't used as an explosive until the 1900's. Electricity and electromagnetism on the other hand were already known of and studied in the 1600's, and things like the telegraph and light bulb were invented in the early 1800's. So one could say, electricity has more of a right to be in minecraft than TNT, or something crazy like "lava buckets" :wink.gif:

Again, it's not TRAVERSETHEMAZEOFTHE8BITCOMPUTERANDFACETHESPERGLORDCRAFT, it is minecraft. Everything else in minecraft serves a purpose and is easy and intuitive to use. The old red dust was hard for anyone without a degree in electrical engineering to use for anything more than a toy, notch fixed that. Would you rather swords required extensive knowledge of fighting styles to use? Structures required frames that can support the weight of the building? Glass was created in a glass blowing minigame? The dust was the one thing in minecraft that was difficult to use and unintuitive, and i am glad he fixed it.
I saw many of people that knew how to use it, and they used it for many things other than traps. I wasn't one of them, but I didn't complain about it because I though it was interesting.
But really, tell me diglett, what do you like to do in minecraft? Tell me, and then I'll tell you that it's minecraft, and you should be mining to make better pick axes and then mine some more, not doing what ever it is that you were doing because I can't do it.
Aspergite really is a fitting name for the red stuff. You guys need to calm down about your little circuits. I bet Notch is regretting putting this feature in since you guys can't stop shitting yourselves over it being made more user-friendly.
So basically Notch traded off compact circuits for.... a better learning curve? What the hell?
I cannot believe that this was not a troll post. HOW DARE HE MAKE THE GAME INTUITIVE AND USER-FRIENDLY?!? MY CIRCUITS! MY MINECRAFT RAMS!!!
Oh okay. I want swords to take years of apprenticeship to make, and then you must know lots of metallurgy to make one, and it is very difficult. You can't complain, you don't blacksmith as a hobby, this is MY game, notch must add things i like, no matter how asinine they are!!!
But really, tell me diglett, what do you like to do in minecraft? Tell me, and then I'll tell you that it's minecraft, and you should be mining to make better pick axes and then mine some more, not doing what ever it is that you were doing because I can't do it.
The thing is, what all these circuitry people want is the dust to be explicitly used for gates and adders and stuff. I have no problem with people making circuits and computers, but you have no right basically taking creative control of the game. If notch wants it to become Circuits and Mines, the online computer game on your online computer! Then, ok, im not gonna play it. But he doesn't which is why he made these changes. I can't ***** at notch that archery is too easy and it shouldnt be dumbed down for the plebes, because thats not what notch wants. He wants a simple, accessible game.
But we've already come to the conclusion this doesn't make them easier to use at all, it just gets in the way of previous achievements and limits the player. It's like adding auto-attack to the game. What if I don't want to attack the pig in front of me?
Except (going on hearsay, havent played update yet), all this is doing is making circuits take more room. It's more like when he added doors, and you guys are complaining that half block doors were better or something. He didnt take your circuits away, its just a little more time consuming.
That's all I'll say; I need to get back to work (at camp)

Minecraft is not medieval to begin with.
It has gunpowder and TnT.
More like a 16th century setting.
Also a massive mushroom mongler.

Only thing I can come up with are sloped walls.
