So with the latest update compact circuits are no longer possible. Requiring red dust obsoletes them since red dust may not go in a line to the direction you want, and attaches to other red dust as well - short circuiting close-knit systems. Whereas the red torch chain inverters before were VERY versatile at the cost of being slightly confusing.
So basically Notch traded off compact circuits for.... a better learning curve? What the hell? Just let the kids figure it out and let us have our unlimited POWAH!
Post in this thread if you agree, so we can get Notch to revert the changes.
EDIT: Just to make things clear, when I say "circuit" I mean anything that uses red powder or a chain of red torches. Not just logic gates.
Even though I don't understand how to make circuits in this game, this way seems more annoying.

Edited. Also I'm surprised more people aren't upset over this. It's not an issue of stuff in place breaking, but it's an issue of making systems in small spaces impossible. At least with multiple wires. I see no benefits to the new system so far.
Oh Noes , my computer. Dam, Notch axed my computer for i was making a store value ram chip and a retrieve value system. Dam and my tunnel of the flowing lights is dead ""the tunnel through wave like turning on and off of torches made it look like it lengthened as you moved it was soo dam cool", but now its dead. Notch please the torches are not foolishly horrible to work with. Now they are uninteresting they have no ability for interactivity to the extent that they use to. dam dam dam. This is what happens when a e.m.p wave goes off eh notch?

If you could manually orient powder right next to other powder (so they don't connect) that would solve this "compact" issue as well as make the using this stuff easier, or whatever changes Notch wanted to make that I don't notice the benefits of.
i agree turn it back :sad.gif: i was working on 32 bit ram adresing thingy and then this!? that had took me FOREVER..
This thread is about reverting changes so that future work in small spaces is possible to do, not so our projects from yesterday won't be broke anymore.
Change it back.
Or make a way to orient red stuff.
It's a little more predictable, but nothing more easier to learn. No matter how much you simplify it, boolean algebra won't be intuitive if the person never learned it.
aifjgir I'm just a little annoyed that my 7 segment display no longer works. It relied heavily on torches sending current downwards.

Ya after working with this stuff for a while. I have found it isn't any more intuitive than when released, and it has only removed functionality. Notch has released a bug and labeled it a feature.
Hrm... Ironically, this actually make (N)AND gates smaller, altho you have to use 2 layers for the input wires.
Also the idea about the hoes and direction... I like the direction part. Having the wires facing direction be based on what direction your facing would be AWESOME, instead of this "auto" BS.
I'm really torn on the matter; I don't want to see SMP dominated by reclusive players building fantastic and over-complicated wire contraptions, but at the same time, I do like the contraptions that can be made. I want red stuff to be in, but I'm worried that people will obsess over it and Minecraft's focus will shift hugely to compensate for it.
It seems like some people are already obsessing over it.
Practically speaking wires are mostly just "OH MY GOD LOGIC GATES ARE AWESOME *nerdgasm*" atm.
Circuit size speaking... I think the changes should be reverted, AND we should be able to choose which way wires 'face'. Only 2 directions to choose from, so it's not hard... Just make the wires 'face' the same way as the player when he places them. This way we'd be able to have wires running right next to each other without them linking up, which would literally HALVE the size of circuits.

Seriously.. I really hope Notch doesn't favor this red stuff too much.. it's a cool gimmick yes and you can make some really cool circuits with it (did so myself).
But really.. it's not worth tearing apart the community for.
Yes, but very simple machines like a pulser is now very hard if not imposable, and a useful thing like a combination lock is now really darn hard. When more things become available for wires to influence then it will become more apperent how the old system for wires was better for it allows many more ways to "output", and "input". Not just for nerd gasms, but for useful abbillites. i am also curtain that people in multiplayer will focus on the other players for that just make sense.'
Edit: also why would you ever disable the ability to have powder create a ledge down like a railroad? Why not just have it able to be placed on the side of walls "nitched" into the side of walls somehow.

Wait, so Notch made a change so the somewhat quick hack for simple control over cart track direction, door openings and such are less confusing to understand? I don't think he will revert this, as when he does focus on making this stuff feasible you'll get much better tools than what you have now.
I say keep it. It won't last long anyway and arguments that he'll "Simplify EVERYTHING we try!" is a bit of a slippery slope argument. Not to mention this stuff was never meant to be seriously messed with.
Your circuits are ****ed no matter what Notched chooses. The only difference is now the average dude can make opening doors and switching tracks easier.

What is so confusing about putting a energy on a block that surrounds a door to open it? What is so confusing about turning on and off a torch that is next to a track to change it? What is so confusing ?
How is it any easier i do not see it any easier in any way shape or form, i now only see it limited. The concept of torch on, can be switched off and on by another torch, The concept of a torch having a one block radius around it, The concept of powder acting like a conduit that is not bias in direction, Those concepts are simple even though English makes them sound complex. i personally think versatility has died with this update completely, Above all function has died.

EDIT 3: Removed poll due to suspected cheating (MANY new user creations: memberlist.php?start=8450)
I'd be dissapointed because I learned SO fast how to use it :biggrin.gif:EDIT: but then again, I'd feel much more accomplished figuring it out if it had a harder learning curve :ohmy.gif:

You could take hoes, put red dust on them, and use them to dig little red-dust lines through the ground, in the direction you were facing.
Like how the signs work.
