I had my chest items whipped. Everything was fine when the game loaded, so I saved and reloaded--something I do frequently in case my computer crashes--and I found that my chest items were gone, my mine-cart was gone, and my signs were all blank.
In addition to the chest robberies, I've had magically reincarnating terrain issues. This doesn't happen on the whole map, just pieces of it--I built a bridge, went to my mines, and returned to find the terrain exactly as it was before I built the bridge. The bridge, of course, had vanished. Multiple events similar in nature have happened as well.
The number of spawns has dramatically increased. These pigs won't stay out of my base.
This is really started to **** me the **** off...... I decided since It doesn't save, to waste all my iron on rails and a minecart. I created the most intricate Rollercoaster you have never seen. It Spiraled halfway down an epic mountain, then rode down a path, over a giant lava pit, through an underwater glass tunnel, Through the sky (with many ups and downs, I might add), and finally slowed at the very start (it looped around). Finally, Firefox froze, and crashed, Along with it, my computer crashed..... all that work was lost.

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do.
And those that don't.

Rain, rain, go away,
THAT'S WHAT ALL THE HATERS SAY.
Same problem here. Just lost two minecarts to the glitch... Although, actually, I've only ever crafted one minecart - the other one was a duplicate from another odd glitch. :|
Ah well, at least I don't have the lag everyone's talking about.

"Mr.Skill... your minecraft.... I'm afraid it has save cancer. There isn't much we can do. We could try chemot-"
"No, no... I think I'll take the little guy outside and... and we'll do what he's always wanted to."

"Wheeee! That was fun! Daddy can we go aga- ag- *Cough cough*"

Ok, good. I was worried that I was the only one experiencing this...
Well, not GOOD, I mean it's... nevermind.
I built a big tower from the bottom of a valley to the top of the map- took the better part of 2 hours to do the whole thing, saved for a break, came back, loaded up, spawned in empty space where the top of the tower had been and plummeted to my death.
I encoutered the same problem, first time it saved normaly it even removed the FPS lag and the game was running a bit smoother. There I was building my fortress I finished an elaborate wall section and a lookout tower I used hundreds of cobblestones, 1/2 blocks, refined stone, and planks, I decided to be cautious since I easily spent 2 hours working on it, so I decide to save and quit, It saved realy quickly so to make sure I did it correctly I opened the file again and poof! the wall and tower where gone only the foundation was left, I went up one of the towers and each floor was flooded with pigs and sheep some where suicide jumping from the main fortress tower (which reaches the top of the level) at first it was hillarious but then I realized that I lost 2 hours of work...I wonder if there's a workaround this glitch/bug
K That Is Not The Problem Tried It But Just Rebuilt The Chunks As Different Gonna Look At A Working Map And See Whats Different And Also Maybe Generate A New Map To If That Is Also Different
If your gonna write like that please use grammar. It is very annoying to read.
Any who, I have yet to go back to my save and I am quite afraid to.
If he knew grammer he wouldnt be typing like that. Duh.
I do know grammar just to let you know, And can't any one stay on topic nowadays. Any how i pretty certain that if we get a converter that will convert the whole level that the levels will work. Cause the issue is that the game is saveing to the newly converted level but when you load your level it load the old files.
How that better took me way slower than i usually.
I joined this club just now with a growing fortress and the contents of one chest completely erased from existence.
Fortunately I backed up my save from before the conversion and from just after, so anything Notch does from here does not mean starting over for me. It does mean I'm not playing until this is fixed though :-/.
I have found a temporary fix to this problem. I went to my %appdata%/.minecraft/saves folder, and renamed my World1 to World2. Before I renamed it, I lost an hour's work. After I renamed it and rebuilt, I saved and restarted, and everything was still there. Manual manipulation of the saves seems to fix the problem.
I have no saves, since I usually just test out the new feature and then go do something else, but I decided I would actually try to accomplish something, maybe build a little town or castle. Now, the first time I actually need the game to save for me IT WON'T DO IT. This is... just... terrible.

Would you dare to meet the gaze of the basilisk, or face the flames as the phoenix burns?
I might have just found the ONE goo thing about it. If you mine some coal for instance and put it in your pocket and save then come back your coal is still there in the rock and in your pocket!! Everyone find that one vein of diamond NOW or if you had stuff smelting (like me) you can pull it out forever! I'm using this lil method now for endless mine carts (placed before update) and I have one track. Go have fun!

this is old, could already be done by terminating java.exe from task manager.
also... did Notch not test this at ALL before uploading it?
I mean my saves don't work right even in the new format... on a completely new level.
FYI: It seems to be occuring alongside the lag spikes, which are both associated with moving around (if you work in a relatively close area you won't have problems saving your data or getting lag spikes.
i ran into a save problem when I died. I respawned, and it proceeded to rebuild all the terrain and everything i had done was gone. this was on a completely new save created today. when I selected save and quit to main menu, it showed that world as a file size of 0.0. sad :sad.gif:
Now that I have your attention, YOU'RE ALL ****ING IDIOTS. Yes, I meant it that time. The solution has already be given to you. Here is what you do in simple steps:
- Go to your saves folder
- Open the folder for the world which "hasn't saved" but in fact "has saved"
- Delete everything in that folder minus level.dat and /data/
BUT ONLY DO THIS DIRECTLY AFTER THE MAP HAS BEEN CONVERTED, IF YOU LOAD THE MAP AGAIN THEN YOUR **** *WILL* BE DELETED.
Thank you and goodnight.
Oh, and yes, if you have a large map, you'll want to explore it first before deleting folders because only explored areas are saved.
You're a ****ing idiot, you jackass. I'll let you know that my saving issue has nothing to do with old maps not converting properly. Brand new maps, brand new saves, aren't working. My old maps are the only ones that happen to still work, every new world I create doesn't save.
And yes, we are having a Notch head craze now. Check out my Notch Offer.

On topic: Yep. My saves are dead in the water.
