I'm sure some of you may have seen a comment I posted on Notchs blog and maybe some of you are quick to deem me a troll. I'm not. Alright, now with that out of the way lets move on!
I'm concerned about a recent twitter post from Notch.
It's not multiplayer. I still haven't started on that.
Uhh...okay. I know Notch works fast and all and maybe some of you think he can pump out some working form of multiplayer in a day or two and that he just hasnt gotten around to it because...I dunno he doesnt feel like it? But am I the only one that remembers THIS?
Hi! I’m getting stressed out over the multiplayer release.
It’s not going as well as I’d hope, and as a result, I’ve lost motivation, causing me to work really slow. This is a bit of a vicious circle, and I think I need to relax for a bit.
Remember that month long break (Which I think actually had 2 weeks added onto it) he took before he went full time because he was so stressed? I thought it was caused because of him working on multiplayer? But now we learn he hasnt even STARTED on it. And instead is adding a load of new things (Which I do like) that will surely make multiplayer even HARDER to do whenever (maybe IF ever) the time comes for him to work on it. Is he just joking with us or what?
Before you shoot off and reply to defend him:
1. I'm not complaining about the progress Notch has been making
2. I'm not demanding he release mutliplayer as soon as possible just because I payed for it (Although it'd be nice)
3. I dont care if you're a programmer too and think you share the same feelings as Notch and know how tough it is for him.
4. I dont care if you think I should be grateful hes even letting us play with Infdev (because he doesnt HAVE to let us play the alpha) so I should keep my mouth shut
All I'm asking is why Notch would say hes stressed over multiplayer, and then it turns out he hasnt begun work on it. I'm just asking has he or has he not started work on the number one thing you all want? Maybe you guys are wondering the same thing.
SMP will get here eventually. Just let him work his way up to it, slowly but surely. Also, you might want to get ready to be flamed, because it seems like it's going to happen.
I think that right now he's just making every little thing he can think of. When he runs out of little things to distract him, he'll likely work on multiplayer. I hope he starts soon.

I think when he said he was stressed, he meant that he was stressed out by all the anticipation. Think about it; basically every paid member of MC wants multiplayer extremely badly. It's a lot of pressure, I think.
Still... come on MP survival! :tongue.gif:

No.
Let me cover 2 things.
1. He did start it. Back before the break. He has not started work on it since he's been back to work.
2. With exception to the carts, he hasn't added anything that will make it harder. And the only thing about carts that will be harder will be making the movement smooth, and that won't be to hard.

Blargha! Blargha! Blargha!
I wouldn't listen to a thing I say. I'm probably insane.
I think you misunderstand. He DID start work on it, BUT it didn't go well SO he was stressed, scrapped it and took a break. Seriously, I think you just took it the wrong way, over reacted and basically with you "I DON'T CARE ABOUT X AND Y" at the end of the post, pissed me off because you're being just plain ignorant and rude.
I personally dont care if Multiplayer is last. I like the new additions and have no problem if they delay multiplayer. Id rather have complete singleplayer THEN multiplayer then to have an incomplete both.

I thought that too. But to be stressed over anticipation from other people? Notch is a grown man. I dont see why hed get so stressed that he needed a MONTH LONG break to get over the fact that people are waiting for him.
Being stressed out because people are excited doesnt sound like a legitimate reason to be stressed to me.
He's not working with a team of codemonkeys. :geek:
Besides, adding a thing or other from infdev to MP would be a pain, because the whole game is in Java.
Including several crashes at servers that would generate.
No, but, in all honesty, while you may have your opinion I think that it would be best if you did not state that particular one, just for Notch's sake. This is probably the kind of thing that got poor ol' Notch all stressed out in the first place, and I know none of us want him to be feeling overworked (for the reason that that would make him take another break, if nothing else).
SMP will come, and I don't think that we have the right to criticize Notch. Without a developer of his caliber, we'd be Minecraft-less. Can you imagine a Minecraft that only updated as often as, say, Team Fortress 2? Plus, Notch has been doing a ton of work for us and the game! I mean, okay, he hasn't done SMP, but in the meantime we got dynamic water, infdev caves (which we'd want before genning an SMP game anyway), minecarts (which many of us agreed would be useful to transport goods between settlements, if that's how SMP turns out [even if the minecarts could use some fixing]), and a whole bunch of other cool stuff. Notice how a lot of the things we got we'd want before we started SMP. What if you built a magnificent fortress in a persistent server only to have it ruined, with no hope of going back, or even genning a new world for a fresh start, by dynamic water causing a spill when it came?
I think that another reason for the "delay" is that SMP will be difficult to implement. Notch is probably trying to think of ways that'll make it work. No, I don't want you to respond with your own ideas because there's already a gazillion threads about SMP this and SMP that. He has probably read all of the major ideas, and is trying to decide which one works the best. For instance, I know that most of you are opinionated upon build/demolish restrictions as griefer protection, but Notch is trying to find a way to make it suit most people while making the game remain fun. A small caveat: What the users want is sometimes what is the most fun, but sometimes it isn't.
I personally don't think SMP is coming for a long time, just because the stuff he's doing now which breaks maps, or designs, or architecture, would break entire servers for SMP. I think that it's better to have that done on your own computer than online. You know what? Speaking for myself (as I have throughout this post. Please notice the non-confrontational proliferation of the words "I think" and "personally"), I'm okay with that. I think that dynamic water is pretty.
And it's not like we're out of things to do in Minecraft. Go build something :smile.gif:

You follow the Path, fitting into an infinite pattern. Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild. Now,in the quantum moment before closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

If the multi-threading is big enough to screw over all the save files, surely it would cause a ton of problems if it wasn't done before SMP?
A simple suggestion on geology here.
