I've been playing an /infdev/ map for a couple weeks now, have an awesome base, sweet tools, extensive mines/tunnels, and have found all kinds of cool land formations... but I have yet to find one single block of gravel. I've searched every body of water within a 2000 block radius or so of the spawn, but there is only sand and dirt. I've also found no diamonds in my mines, but I understand it is extremely rare, so I'm not worried. Has anyone else had a problem finding gravel? I hope the map generator didn't just screw up or something, starting a new file at this point would be a huge pain in the ass.

Yea, gravel and sand are fairly hard to find for some people, but just look around on small lakes and the sort. Besides, gravel isn't of much use other than flint or airlocks, but sand should be far more common for that purpose. What are you planning to do with flint and steel? Burn a forest? They're huge bushy things now and setting one on fire will destroy just about everything.

Thanks to the people who were actually helpful, it was much appreciated, and I'll go check out that Cartograph tool. To the rest of you, way to just read the title and not the OP:

Thanks for all the suggestions! Eventually what I did that worked was to just pick a direction (west in this case) and keep walking for about twenty minutes. After that I checked it out in Cartographer, and found a deposit of gravel that had been created along my path :smile.gif:

I believe there was a point in Infdev where there wasn't gravel yet, if you made it early on your whole starting area wouldn't have it, like in my case. You'd have to walk a long way in any direction(probably until you see chunk-lines in the terrain) then you should find it pretty easy in a lot of lakes.

Sand? Hard to find?!
Sometimes it is hidden underwater and/or under a pile of sand near the surface.

They looked more like oceans, but whatever.

Hahaha... haha...
Ha.
Awesome.
On an other note: Sand + Lave = More lave. Does this also work with gravel?
Example:
= air
[gold] = lava
[gold]
You heard that, green and red.
