Or, you could, just, y'know, carry everything you need in your inventory.
Like I do.
In fact, the only time I ever need a chest is when I've been playing on Peaceful and exploring for far too long.
If you get killed for some reason chances are you'll lose EVERYTHING. Would you really want that?
Depends on whether or not you respawn after death.
In singleplayer, you don't respawn after death, so it doesn't matter whether you lose everything or not. As long as you've saved frequently, you're A-OK.
In multiplayer, death and looting depends on the ability to respawn. If Multiplayer Survival has you fighting enemies as well as other people, then I assume the gameplay will be in the style of TF2 Arena mode, where you fight to the death and once you're dead you don't respawn. (Of course, map size and the fact that there are no teams will have to be taken into account). If you don't respawn after you die, then what difference does it make if you lose everything? You're dead and buried.
Now, if you respawn after death in Multiplayer Survival, then sure, hide your stuff. But I don't think respawning will be included, considering it's supposed to be Survival.

Well how would multiplayer work then? You die, then you can never play on that server ever again? Or everything that you ever built/collected will disappear?
EDIT: I can think that whenever a player dies it should be announced on the server and their corpse marked so people can find their stuff.

I imagine that everything that's been built will disappear, and everything that they were carrying will be able to be looted. When they die, they can respawn at certain points after a short time, or if everyone's dead, a new round starts.

Why would dying magically disappear everything you've built? D:
I have an idea for chests. Instead of having them be owned, why not put combinations on them so groups of people can all use the same ones? Communism ftw...
I will try to steal at least once! But it will be something clever... something genius :3...
Here's how it will work.
The chest is in the middle of the room. When the player leaves, I will come in, and place a 2*1*1 painting at the dark spot in the room. Behind this painting, is a hole, which I will constantly use to take stuff from the chest. Now obviously, the owner of the chest will find this painting, and find the tunnel behind it. What he won't know about however, is the alternate exit that I use, instead of the main tunnel. The main tunnel has doors and behind one, are enemies! If he kills them, then he will find a room giving a hint to who robbed him. Something clever and catchy. Like... Mr L. Yesh....

PvP is like sex. When both parties are willing, it can be a very enjoyable experience. However, when one party is not, it is bound to ruin someone's day.
I think PvE is great in the short term, but over a longer poeriod of time, certain people may have a lucky advantage (spawning near, say, a bunch of coal and trees) and easily overpower others. I like the idea of forming teams over time. If I get attacked and killed by some guy in my coal mine, at least my friend can defend our base.
Has anyone mentioned hiding their stuff behind paintings? Currently in indev if you knock out a couple of pieces of wall from behind a 4x4 or larger painting you can walk through it and the painting will cover the opening. So you can simply make chambers to house many chests behind a painting or just have a small hollow to house a single/double chest. And if you throw in a few trap paintings (ie. a drop straight into a lava pit or TNT behind it so if the painting gets hit, boom) it will deter any would be thieves.
Its also great for just hiding secret passages within your buildings.

A thief will use the minimal gear necessary while searching for chests. If he hits a TNT block, he will respawn a short distance a way having lost only minimal gear. If he hits a chest with valuable items, he will stash those in a nearby chest of his own before resuming the search for more.
Not if you never checked this forum. You might forget about the paintings.

On the PVP VS PVE discussion I say that each server will have its rules. Of course that in these of no rules just go and do what you wish. If they complain just tell them to select a diferent server.
On the hiding discussion I will have more than a chest. Each one for a different thing. The most valuable one would be the hardest to get. And I have many ideas. For the most valuable im gonna hide them underground behind many DAAAAARK pits with LOOOOOONG jumps. What happens on DAAAAAAAARK pits? MONSTERS! What happens on LOOOOOOONG jumps? Fall! They fall into Monsters and die :biggrin.gif: of course I would have a uber hidden passage to reach the chest easily. Things that aren't that valuable well... Just behind a picture will do :tongue.gif:
Most people would think that the treasure was unreachable and have nothing on it. Also the world is (almost) infinite. Who would make a mine on my zone? :tongue.gif:
if you noked out the wall behind the panting doesnt the panting disiper
with the 2x2 and 2x3 paintings (haven't tested others much), I have been able to knock out 2 bricks behind to form a hallway without the painting vanishing. Then it allows you to walk thru the painting in that area. I realise a determined thief can still knock down the painting to find your stuff, but atleast it provides an out of sight hiding spot that doesn't require you to destroy and create blocks each time you want to uncover it.
(if you are having trouble preventing painting from breaking, try to avoid removing the block that you aimed at when hanging the painting.)
I haven't seen this done anywhere before so I don't think many know about it, which helps in keeping up the illusion. I might be wrong tho but I discovered it just mucking about one day.

Yes, someone in the past mentioned this and said it'd be a very stupid thing to do.
I mean, if you were looking for hidden treasure or passages, isn't that the first place you'd look?
Give a little. =♥=
Wait, what? I didn't write that? Mind your qouting

The inventory is freaking huge!
