THE STORY SO FAR:
Quote from ngajoe »
The Marquis and his fleet departed this day, promising to return within a months time with supplies. Morale soared with the prospect of a new beginning, until the banners of His Lordship faded into the horizon. The realization that we were now on our own was indeed daunting. We decided to send a small party east (or was it west? The fog this day was unbearable!) along the coast to search for lumber and coal. This island, now our home, was much bigger on foot than it appeared from the ship. It seemed like most of the day passed before the party returned from the same direction. It appears they struck inland momentarily and were turned around. They had found a small alcove under the rock with mushrooms (edible, apparently). They did mention they saw a frightening green llama with two legs deeper in, but it hissed mightily and the party kept its distance. Obviously the men's courage had sailed away with the Marquis. We decided to erect an Obelisk near our port in order to make pathfinding easier. One of the men had also slaughtered some of the wild beasts that grazed the land, but had found the meat tough and unfit for consumption. Strange enough, they had ingested rocks that would ignite upon impact. This proved to be to our advantage, as we were able to forge a small amount of tools from the scouting party's gains. Night was setting in quickly, so we decided to make camp. We heard reports of hissing from the hills; a strange and eerie sound. We have a long road ahead of us. I pray the Marquis returns early; I already miss cider.

Strange, strange things have been going on lately. We've lost 2 miners last night, and the search group we sent to look for them didn't return either. And there's also the priest ... more on that later. There have been some :misunderstandings: in roles of certain individuals, but added hours in mine quickly settled down all our problems.
What is more important, we found some grain seeds and began constructing an inn where ruins stood.
The next day... t'was the search group - or better what was left of em, that made me call the meeting. It happened in the construction site for it was the only place big enought for everyone. Miners found blood stains and pieces of cloth in tunnels, when they advancing a bit further, the bodies. I must have talk with priest, for no human hand could have done something terrible like this. Later today, miners ran out of the mine like rats, speaking on strange sounds in the walls, footsteps that weren't entirely theirs and chaotic visions near magma pool. And the skeleton monster. In fear that it might follow us up here, I ordered everyone locked up inside for tonight.
It came. It killed. Three good souls we're lost to the horror, before we managed to kill it dead. Inn is now finished and boys dug a trench around it so nothing can enter trough windows. Nobody goes into mine now. Skeletons. Spiders. Even bodies of our dead friends. All of them lurk the depths and we're having hard time keeping them off. We won't starve from lack of shrooms, for we have bread now, yet the danger from the depths is too great. We need that damn boat to pick us up. Or to build our own...

DAY 11, MONTH ø, YEAR •ùÿ•
I woke up today with a terrible fever. So terrible, i could hardly move, as if i was chained to some unseen chains. It hammer my head, as if it was ready to explode at any moment.
The fog moved on to us once again, the very same fog who confused our senses on our way to this cursed island... I swear, it's no natural fog, no no... it seems to brings abominations from the depths, the kind that we usually put in horror stories to scare the lil' kids...
Anyway. I've lock the door -- took me so much of time...! --. I wouldn't like to meet the same fate as our comrad Joey, who went foolhardy into the woods, never reappearing. We have heard a few explosions in the distance. But... we don't have explosive material, do we? How in heavens coul
(the writing stop abruptly. This journal page was taken under the corpse of the man who wrote it, who probably fell victim to the fever.)

THE ORIGINAL POST
So...
Is this game fantastic or what? While playing on indev, aside from building new tools, I expanded my 'starthut' into a villa, then built a bridge, then some monuments to mark my mining tunnels (or dungeons). Of course, no villa is complete without a garbage chute, a forging pit, and of course, a mob hole (for "THIS...IS...MINECRAFT!!!" moments, courtesy of matthew102000). It's totally fascinating to not only build for sheer survival, but also to create and cultivate your island as you attempt bend it to your feeble survival-capped abilities.
And it came to pass that I wanted to share my creation to others...
This post is an attempt to form a Play-by-Forum-Indev-Survival-Multiplayer-Game. Let me explain what this entails:
A progression of players is formed on a single map, from the founder of the island, who plays for a short while, then passes his work on to another, and so forth. For this to be accomplished, these following boundaries will be set:
-Players, who are interested in the Colonization Project post here. Once we get 5 or so, we will start.
-Each player must work from a single save file for the good of the colony and the domination of the island, which is passed from one player to another.
-Each player should restrict their playtime to a measly one hour, in order to mine, craft, and cultivate the island, in order to preserve and promote the habitability of future generations. Once this limit is reached, the player should return to the 'starthut'/village in order for the next player to embark.
-Each player should complete their play within a sensible timeframe, preferably as soon as possible, but no greater than 24 hours.
-The difficulty should remain at Normal. In the event of player death, the current player should be free to reload the original or later save, and attempt to use the rest of his/her time as constructively as possible.
-A small narrative, perhaps a paragraph or so, to give context to the Colonization process, should be posted when complete, so that non-players can get an understanding of the progress.
(I don't think it violates Notch's requests for distribution restriction to post an indev save-file on a password protected site from which the players can download/upload their creation. This is my preferred method, but let me know if this steps on any toes!)
In closing, my fellow minecraft-ateers, this distant land may not become hospitable overnight, but with a few good souls, pixelated sweat, and determination, we can make this land ours! So, what say you? Who wishes to embark with me on this journey?

As it stands, it seems it is impossible to load saves in the current version of indev. The project is placed on standby for the time being.
