Our server has expanded quite a bit from when we first started, and we're looking for purposes for our vast expanses of land other than gigantic cities and such.
Likewise, we need another project to work on to keep us occupied, and a form of entertainment to boot.
Originally, this started as a simple idea- arena based combat where players submit items of value and then pvp- last one standing wins the pot-[chest].
Now it's blossomed into a Hunger Games-themed deathmatch, feat. vast arenas, traps, gathering, and outsmarting your enemies as audience members cast lots on the players, and watch alliances form, break apart, and ultimately cheer on the last man to emerge from the arena.
Each player will get something like standard-issue armour, watch, compass, and be cast into an arena with chests of useful items hidden in various areas, and enemies around every bend.
Here was the first prop. I had for the idea:
"We need a project.
And we need entertainment.
XXXX XXXXX is leading the architecture in this project, and I will be assisting him- since the opposite is true for my model of Bowie and I owe him for that since the project is so large.
We're building a massive arena/coliseum, and setting up a form of weekly/biweekly entertainment.
Audience members will vote on who will partake in the Games that particular event, and the competitors will be stripped of all the items/armor/weapons on their person and dropped into a massive forest/mountain range.
Days in minecraft last TEN minutes- while nights last seven minutes. Sunrise/sunset both take a minute and a half, making for a full 20 minutes equaling 24 hours. During the first day, competitors will have exactly ten minutes (from sunrise to sunset) to mine/create ALL the items they intend to use in the Games, which includes armour and any blocks they intend to use (creating things will be allowed in the arena, although much more dangerous as it will leave behind evidence of you being there.)
At sunset, competitiors will be teleported to holding boxes made of adamantite (unbreakable stone) and will await the first games.
The rules will be explained, and audience members will cast bets of rare items, jewels, blocks, armour, w/e into a large holding chest where the bets will remain until the end of the games.
At the following sunrise, the competitors will be cast into the arena (haven't asked anyone about the Cornucopia [a gigantic pile of items/useful blocks at the starting area] yet, I guess we'll see how that goes) and the Games will begin. The winner gets first picks on items that were bet on both players, and the rest goes out to the winning betters. ♥
That's the idea.
Here's a current map of our world, I'll send you one in just a minute with regions defined."
O' course, it's evolved since then.
I could use some serious opinions on this, any and ALL contribution is greatly appreciated- our server's first Games will take place just after finals this semester, and will probably be a biweekly occurrence. Themes like CTF and such will be on the way shortly after our first. :3

I was unaware that minecraft was based on realism. I'll be damned if i take the trash out and i hear a SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS behind me.
All jokes aside, I don't know if this would be a good idea. Some people could cheat and find out the exact topography and get an edge. It just doesn't work out.

Oh, I get it, like the spoungebob episode that had the box.

There's not a real way to cheat :biggrin.gif: It's a giant admantium arena many blocks high, with an underground floor. The only way in is to be placed in via a player's .dat file. Also, after the use of lava buckets and tnt, i imagine the terrain will change immensely.
Topography isn't so much a worry. Contestants will place their inventory into chests before entering arena. The arena waiting room will have a chest for each player with 16 torches, a compass and a watch. All other items are to be gathered in the arena.
Traps of all kinds will be thrown into the mix- like pressure plates with TNT arrowbombs attached (not necessarily close-by, though)
But as for competitors starting close together- it doesn't feel right. :/
Everybody just gets blown away in the first few seconds and then it's down to two or three- and Minecraft doesn't exactly have the realistic fighting required for the first minute. :tongue.gif:
I was thinking having them spawn in the corners of the arena.

It would be interesting if every bodies health slowly went down, so it would give real meaning to the HUNGER games. Also, are you going to build it in circle with arcs of the circle raining random stuff every 2min. or so?
Once this starts up, I REALLY would want to be a contestant. Want me to PM for IP?
sure!
Also, what say you on the idea of a Battle Royale spin; starting everyone off with a random item ( in addition to compass/watch ). it wouldn't be a diamond sword, but maybe an arrow or two, tnt or a few iron ore blocks (that would need to be smelted).
Battle Royal spin sounds interesting...
Though the items should be a bit more balanced. I mean, would you rather have 2 arrows or a block of TNT?
Sounds cool otherwise though.
I am a girl who has a strange fetish for villains from video game franchises. If you have a fetish for dressing up as one, gimme a PM.

What would be used for CTF? maybe a sign post?
Also, I am host of said server. PM for ip.

One does not simply walk into Mordor.
SelfBump~
Also the players all start next to each other, with a chest with items in the middle :3
I like other games, and minecraft, problems?
And then add traps with dynamite, and falling pits, and lava that will fall down when an person hits a switch
But as for competitors starting close together- it doesn't feel right. :/
