It seems like almost every server owner takes 1-2 days to update the server, and 3 to approve whitelists. It's so annoying.
If the default server did whitelisting then we wouldn't need hey0 but since you're talking about servers that are whitelisted, they are obviously running something (even if it's not hey0) that takes time to patch against notch.
Also, i'd say a majority of minecraft players are either kids or young adults. Between finals week and work and hey0 being broken, whos gonna update atm?
I don't dedicate my time, my money and my bandwidth for nothing.. It takes time and effort to run it, I'm not giving up my life immediately and just dropping the ball to get on the servers and update.
However when Hey0 comes out and i'm done with what I need to get done during this day i'll fix it all. In the meantime i'll get yelled at by people because im being "lazy"
seriously stop damn blaming us we wait for the update and will download it when we can for hey0 mod if you ran a server with hey0 you'd do the same thing so shut up and wait bud.. not are fault!

unfortunately he had to push the client update due to "protocol" changes.. which means that SMP is pretty much broken across the board until hmod gets update (unless you want to mindlessly build on a temp map).. hopefully it won't hurt too many of the plugins. Hosting can be a pain.
Server owners do have lives, you know. We're not all pathetic 43-year old men with permanent cheetos stains on our fingertips screaming "DAMMIT NOTCH CAME OUT WITH ANOTHER UPDATE, I CAN'T MAKE MY SERVER WORK!!11!!SHIFTONE". If you happen to BE one of those people, which seems likely due to your obvious distress over a simple server update breaking most people's mods that their server NEEDS to work, make one yourself and stop whining on the forum about something every three days. Hosting a good server is difficult, and can often cost the owners money. Just because you play on a server doesn't give you the entitlement to get mad and throw a tantrum if the server goes down for a few days.
Now in the meantime, do something you haven't done in years. Go play outside.

That's because most servers use Hey0's mod, it takes a day to update Hey0 to its working version and 2 days to update all plugins to work again.
This. Without hey0 there's a lot less admin powers and options. That's why it's going to be better when you can chose to update or not, that way we'll have those couple days to wait for the mod udpates and people will be able to play.
Regarding the "don't have time" argument, if you're the admin, just make some friends you trust. Then whoever is online and has time to do the update after it hits can do it. There's 4 of us with access to my server, and my server is pretty much updated immediately after every update. Took about 5 minutes to write up a how-to for the less technical of them, detailing how to run it without hey0 if necessary too. Or if you're just a group of friends and its not a serious thing, its understandable that the 1 dude with access to the server didn't get around to it. But if you take pride in what you do and enjoy trying to run a server as best as you can, and don't have time 24 hours a day, just make some friends you trust.
@ OP:
How would you like to spend DAYS hell maybe even MONTHS building a castle, skyscraper, city, whatever, then within 5 minutes a griefer with a pack full of TNT wipes it ALL out leaving you nothing but a hole in the ground. Think about that for a moment...
That's what happens if you dont use protection plugins. Yes, soem servers are strict enough and have good enough mods that this isnt needed, but the majority of them dont.
Go play single-player for a while, the mods will be updated soon. Your not the only one who wants to play MC and cant because the update broke multiple mods...

Nerd, geek, server admin, guy wearing a rainbow skin (with an office suit of epicness)? That's me.

Go pay for your own server :wink.gif:

Never thought of that, Thanks.
I run hMod AND MCAdmin, so it takes quite a while for both to update >.>
