My server got DoSed by a few people on 4chan once. = /
Some tard on my private server decided to post my IP on /v/.
It only took them 40 minutes to Completely trash the server.
After I banned all the people from 4chan I got DoSed for about 2 days.
A few of the griefers continued to try to join/grief for a few weeks.
What sucked is that since I'm hosting from my home LAN connection, I could hardly do anything online during the attack. = /
I'd go through all your recently banned people and see if any of them would have a reason to flame. Things like them having a huge buildings or them thinking that a rule is unfair or thinking they were banned wrongly. You could try having the ISP block those IP addresses and see what happens.
As has been stated time after time, the source IP address is being spoofed, it isn't the attacker's normal IP. Please read the thread before attempting to contribute.
What I'm saying that the most likely person to be DDoSing a server is one who has been banned. They're most likely to have done it. If you found some IPs that could be the culprit it would probably be easier to, at least, find who the man behind the proxy is.
Please read my post before trying to say what I said was wrong.
See my server is one the best and I guess because this people have to ddos it.
post is also about facts about DDoS's, not personal opinions on what constitutes a "best" server, speculation on why its being DDoS'd, or the vanity of thinking its a DDoS because of its "bestness".
there is no proof that its being DDoSd either because someone picked a random IP to test an attack on, or that its because of so called "jealousy", or a pissed secret member of the server, or ex member of the server wanting revenge..
its amazing how those that members of godcraft replying going "guys its not about it being a payed server, its about the attack" as an argument, in turn tosses into that same reply "But it is the best payed server hands down".
you cannot simultaneously say "stop discussing the quality or pay rate of the server, its a purely DDoS thread" and talk about the quality of the server and its pay reasons.
BTW people who have any issues with the payment thing please feel free to post on my forums and my own members will tell you there experience. Don't let me tell you let the community tell you.
yes thats the perfect place to get an unbiased opinion of a server...the servers forum thats populated by the servers members.
its no more unbiased than going onto an MMO forum and asking "is this a good MMO" ofcourse everyone on the forums will say yes, because they play on the MMO.
I'm not saying its a good server, or a bad server...just saying opinions on that forum might be a bit skewed to get a realistic judgement
Well we are trying to keep the thread on track, but if we simply dismiss negative posts against our server with just "guys this thread is about the DDoS," then it seems like we're avoiding it. On the other hand, if we argue it out with you, then the thread gets derailed and we ARE trying to keep it on topic. So, as to defend the server AND to stay on topic, we did both. The only reason that I'm replying to you now is that this thread pretty much died and isn't too relevant anymore as we're already working on solutions.
Additionally, where would you consider an appropriate place to get an unbiased opinion of a server? Obviously there's no way of getting a truly unbiased opinion. If you go to the forums you'll get the positive bias. If you go to former players you'll get the negative bias (people don't just quit this server for no reason, usually it's because of some kind of drama or dispute). And then who's left, people who've never even played on the server and are just disappointed that it's donate-only because they wanted to play but didn't find it worth the money? Yeah sure that sounds like a great place to get even a valid opinion of the server. The only place that even closely works is the forums, because they'll give you an honest and valid overview of the server and how things work on it. Former players wouldn't even know the latest things that are going on on the server, nor will they provide an accurate account of things they do know (especially the latest news that they know, because there's a good chance it had something to do with them leaving to begin with). What exactly would be the purpose behind a player giving an inaccurate account of the server that they currently play? What are they going to say, that we have fully working mobs, PVP, hell, minecarts, and everything else that's currently broken in the game? I mean I hope you ask for more than "Do you think I should play on this server?" when looking for whether or not to play on a server. You should be asking questions on how things in the server are run. How our cities are, how the building rules are, mods we have installed, and other such things that are done in the server. Then from that you should formulate your own idea of whether or not you want to play on a server that works like this one does.
Just have your ISP use source-based null routing on that IP at the next-to-last-hop edge router. It's discarded into the null0 interface immediately and never hits your server.

you ignore the troll threads about quality or lack there of, and concentrate on the thread at hand.
if every business went and searched down every article written about how good or bad its software was to counter that argument personally, they wouldn't get any work done.
you take the praise, and the disagreements in stride, note key points personally about them that are true concerns. and move forward.
no need to personally debunk every negative review, and thank every positive review. it makes it seem your trying to hard, being a 'used car salemen' for the server, working to discredit any bad review, and highligh positive ones.
you'd seem much more confident in your belief you run a good server..if you can brush off the comments and go "hey..you may think that about it, Im sorry you do, but lets stick to the subject at hand"
you let the server speak for itself, if its a good server, then it in itself will outweight the bad comments.
microsoft and apple in point, they have gotten TONS of bad reviews, "haters' and general people hating them when they know nothing of them. all they do is keep making a product, and quietly adjust for the valid bad arguments to improve, enhance the positive points that get praise..and company grows.
as for valid feedback, there is no point that can be made that the "server forums" are the best place. as with ANY forums, or community that's a closed group of people that can give opinions, they will be skewed..they don't have to lie about "monsters work and PvP totally bug free" to have enhanced, biased, and exaggerated feedback on the service.
and most people DO only ask "should I play on this server? is it good?"
1/2 the people that log into mine..within 5 minutes they ask "is this a good server..tired of finding crappy ones"
we have to ask them "well define whats good to you first, before we answer..because to us its good..or we wouldn't be here"
take a look at any MMO forums, ANY product forums, ANY hardware forums for any specific company..those places do have highly disproportional positive feedback compared the the mass of outside reviews. and most the curious people wanting to play only ask "is this a good MMO?" and of coruse on the wow forums..they get a majority of "OMG ITS TEH BESTZ MMO EVAH!"
and by that same standard..how many 'pay members" is it possible its maybe the only 1st or 2nd server they played on before settling in? they can give accurate reviews? seeing as the only server they have to compare it to is the one they are posting about.
you want TRUE unbiased opinions? you cant handpick which ones are vaild...take the mass as a whole..good,bad,troll,fanboy..the truth WILL be the mean of the sum of those opinions.
take a mass of all review of people that have been on the server, be it an hour and left, or be it 5 months long term member.
as the people leaving after an hour had a reason, as well as the long term members...
you don't have to eat 3/4 of a steak before you can judge on if it doesn't taste right to you, one bite your personal opinion is valid about it, regardless if the chef thinks its perfect.
Get a new host immediately, like, today, and make sure they understand they need to offer DOS/DDOS protection. If it turns out that host can't handle it then you need to find someone else, as soon as possible. That your current host has taken this long is unacceptable, if it had only been a few days I would say give them more of a chance, but weeks isn't good.
In the meantime, report it as a crime, and contact Activision and let them know someone is either spoofing their IP as part of an attack, or one of their machines has been compromised. Big companies don't want to be associated with DDOS attacks, and they have the means to quickly get in touch with the departments that handle these sorts of crimes and lend their assistance.
This general tendency of the extremists of the Minecraft community towards using DOS/DDOS attacks to communicate (the equivalent of hitting someone over the head with a rock) versus, say, polite communication using language, like a sentient being, is why my server is private.
Okay, everyone. As well-worded and cleverly presented as your arguments are, it IS off-topic. There IS a thread about Kane's server already, and this is not it. Please stay on the topic of the DDOS attack and how to fix it. If you are unable to do that, refrain from posting. Those who fail to do either of those in this thread will have to receive warnings from now on.

Pick one so I don't have to explain why neither would work instead of trying to claim you said both.
