I was playing minecraft on my MacBookPro running osx, and all the sudden it froze up, crashed, and now I have no way of moving to mouse, or turning off the laptop, HELP!
Update: after closing the MacBook, the mouse appeared in the top left corner of the screen from where I could use the keyboard to shut down the MacBook. Does anyone know why minecraft freezes on MacBooks?
^There is a faster solution. Force quit it. Alt+Command+Esc. If that doesn't work, take out the battery.
I myself am using a very old mac (macbook 2.0) but with upgraded Harddrive space, memory, changed Keyboard, LED screen, and battery. Basically it is now a shell. Maybe you had too many applications running at once? I'm not too sure, that never happened to me before.

Hmm... I have a feeling you were doing something wrong because I've played Minecraft on an assortment of computers including the original MacBook Pro... Update Java? Or make sure you don;t try to run a lot of applications at once?
Post computer specs please.
P.S. An easy way to shut down any computer is to just hold the power button in for around 10 seconds.

Oh it's true. They can do anything and everything. Why just 30 mins ago I wash tired of washing dishes by hand and I said, "Macbook Pro. Finish washing the dishes for me". Wouldn't you know it, the thing got up transformers style and started walking to the kitchen. Luckily, I came to my senses before it stuck it's robot arms (where those come from? I don't remember that option) in the water. I know things, and computers and water don't mix. I R S.M.art.
Seriously, I have a circa April 2008 Macbook Pro fully decked out with all the good tasting options. It runs Minecraft just fine. It's no speed demons (you kids and your 100 FPS, pfft). Updated with the latest Java update from Apple and the machine is running the latest version of OSX.
I hazard a guess and say your machine has more issues than just Minecraft. If you are in a big city, take it to a Apple store. They are quite good at what they do. You might have to pay a bit for it, but for the peace of mind it being done right, it's worth it.
The game always lags badly before the crash, and It was right after I turned on the computer, but I just don't know. My solution is to stop playing minecraft on my MacBook and just play on my desktop pc.
My macbook pro runs minecraft fairly well though it seems to run worse and worse with every new major update. Since the last update the game will automatically crash if Fancy graphics are turned on, so I don't have that on anymore. When minecraft crashes, which it will do every once in a while, just force quit and you're fine. If it crashes more than once within a couple minutes, restarting the computer usually helps.
I just sold my Macbook Pro for a grand YAY! and bought an Alienware M11x... anywho.. my 2.5Ghz Core2Duo MPB ran Minecraft.. barely.. in fact it was just horrible on the graphics ends of any game, WoW included.. it had the dedicated Nvidia 512MB card too. Not to mention the bottom of the damn thing turned into a sausage and pancake griddle at full speed.

If this is a hut, I would hate to see what a house is.
my macbook runs fine with minecraft. it might be a java issue. make sure your java is up to date. you can check this but going to software update. if it still crashes, i suggest calling apple support. explain to them that a java application is causing the problems.
Alienware laptops aren't designed for your laptop!.
They should be called tabletops!
I'll keep that in mind when I'm using my 11.6" Alienware in my lap with dedicated 1GB ATI Graphics lol.
That being said.. its a netbook on steroids.. the m11x is exactly that, an 11" laptop.
With THAT out of the way.. my 17" Aluminum Macbook Pro wasn't exactly a laptop either.. especially when i had the Incase Soft-touch Hardcase on it.. tipped the scale at a whopping 8.25 lbs. When it got hot, you knew it too :-( Will never buy another Apple computer for as long as I live.. thats for sure.

That's just pure ignorance.

+1, I have no problems. Even when I have multiple applications running. But like anything, if you have too much going on, something is going to crash. If your software isn't up to date, you may crash.

It's not ignorance, it's true. Mac wasn't built for gaming, Windows wasn't either, but still way more than Mac.
Minecraft is one of the only games that even run on Mac, and why do you think there are so very few games for the Mac?
It's not because of the computer's capabilities, it's because of the business. Windows users are in the majority, so it's no surprise that most of the game development is done for Windows. In my industry, Macs are the norm, because they can handle audio, video and photography better and faster than WIndows, so you see more media applications geared toward Mac users. It's where the market is.
That's just pure ignorance.

There are many games that run on a mac, but a mere fraction of those that run on Windows based machines. That being said.. Native OSX games suck.. after the 4.0 patch on WoW.. I had to manually reset to the old graphics engine in game with some code-age because OSX doesn't support the latest yet. Like I said in my last post.. Minecraft ran on my macbook and that was about it. OSX is a terrible platform for gaming if you're playing anything but WoW and EA Games.

i prefer a PC for gaming. i hate gaming on my mac, even though thats my only option. macs rune minecraft just "fine". A PC with a good graphics card and stuff will run minecraft good. on mac, you cant go far render distance with fancy and get 200 FPS while using HD texture packs...
Why is everyone against the MacBooks
I my self am using Windows 7 and would choose this over a Mac but they are not bad, my friend has one and its good reliable and fast and plays minecraft great.
Id say that every person who said the Mac are **** on this forums probably never even seen a Mac before so stop saying they are ****
Macbooks are ****.. I'm allowed to say that because I was stupid enough to let Steve Jobs rape me out of $3k
