i have got a similar problem. after a few seconds connected to our server i lost the connection.
Internal exception: java.io.IOException: Bad compressed data format
single player works fine. i tested some random internet server... works also fine.
i've got the same problem on my laptop. the game drops from the server.
a friend is able to play with my minecraft account on this server.... no drops.
pc: windows xp sp3, java is up to date
laptop: windows vista
connection: 384 kbit/s down, 64 kbit/s up, zyxel multiport router

java.io.IOException: Bad compressed data format
im getting this at an increased rate and its now completely unplayable.
after about 5-10seconds on any server i am getting one of 4 things:
- bad compressed data format disconnect
- bad packet id disconnect
- java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -70
- null pointer exception crash which i dont have the specifics anymore and i cba to start minecraft 10-50 more times until i get that particular "hell no you wont be playing this game again"-cockblock again
