I am also having this issue, Windows 7 x64.
I can connect via my local network IP, localhost/127.0.0.1, but cannot connect via external IP.
It's not just me tho, no-one can connect via the external IP.
I have the port forwarded via my modem also.
ok i keep seeing this solution by changing the Transmit Buffers in the adapters settings up to 512.
The issues i'm having with that is that there are not options in the Wireless USP card i'm using that have transmit or receive buffers to even change.
Using a Linksys Wireless-N USB Network Adapter (WUSB300N)
Hey guys, I wanted to say that I have fixed the problem, but I did not do anything people have said to do in here. What happened was, I have two Network adapters (In device Manager) and the first one I used was a "U.S Robotics" adapter, well, when I joined any server or mine in this case, it gave me the same errors. But, when I switched out to my "Nvidia nForce Networking Controller" and plugged my internet cable into it, it worked perfectly. I have been playing on my server for about 2 hours now with no issues at all. So this definitely is a networking card problem.
Also my system is: Windows 7, 32 bit.
Hope this helps anyone.
This is driving me crazy. I have followed EVERYTHING that has been aforementioned in this thread and I am still having this issue whether I connect via local host or not.
Well after reading almost all the posts about this problem and similar problems. What worked for me, was I went to a Network Interface Card, instead of running the on board NIC. Installed the last drivers for the NIC card and it has worked flawlessly. What lead me to making the move, to go to a different card, was I had one machine that would connect and play with out a problem on the server, but the other would not, it gave the same error everyone else was getting. Which made me think it was hardware issue. Hope it works for you, it has for me.
What I had:
LAN Chipset Realtek 8111DL 10/100/1000Mbps
What I installed:
LINKSYS EG1032 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI Network Adapter 1 x RJ45
I have a alpha server running but when I put in my external ip it does not reckonise it and times out so I just put in the port number and it comes up with this
java.net.SocketExeption: Network is unreachable: connect
what do I do to fix and how do I get my friends to goin with a external ip of my server?
Also having the same problem. Created a server with ports forwarded, can connect fine using local IP, but I get the "socketException error" when I try to connect via external IP. Had friend try and connect to external IP and get the same error.
I also changed the network card settings in device manager according to this thread which did nothing.
My router also crashes each time I try to connect and get this error (wrt54g running DD-WRT).
