Explosions in general will turn off portals. I had a creeper blow out one of mine. And portalling to an inactivated portal will, as stated, spawn a new one nearby. I used that to end up with, like, seven portals outside of my house... The portal-assignment thing is a bug.
Also, fishing rods stack, and stacking them will make them all the same health. If you put a fresh rod on top of a broken one in your inventory, they'll both become broken.
I've noticed that leaves don't automatically decay after the tree is destroyed, like they used to. This is causing tree farming problems for me. Does anyone else notice this?
Yes leaves do not disappear for me at all, Because of this my spawn is cluttered with gravity defying canopy of foliage and no way to remove it other then burn it.
Also i believe i witnessed the trunks respawning from teh existing canopy after a crash. This would seem to be a issue with my memory being out of sync with a potential earlier save game, but these were my first trees i cut down so i noticed because i was watching them for deterioration after the cutting..
Everything is doing massive damage and ignoring my armour.
I was on easy and a zombie was doing 2.5(May have been 3.5) hearts worth of damage a hit.
Also before the update I could jump into lava on peaceful and be safe for ages.
Now I die within seconds.(While on peaceful.)
The update does say that the enemies have been made more deadly, but this doesn't sound right.
I built a portal roughly 20-30 blocks under the surface. When I spawned in the Nether, the portal was inside of a huge rock mountain and I wasn't being damaged. The ghasts were opening up on me though, no idea if they where in or out of the mountain, but it didn't seem to bother them.
I could see pigmen walking about up in the air, I could see through everything but lava, and couldn't see any actual ground, and lava flows flowing over nothing (which suggests I was indeed in a mountain). Buggy! :ohmy.gif:
Just a question to help Notch get to the bottom of the bugs. Are you all playing on worlds already generated before the update, or are you playing in new worlds generated after the update? Finding commonalities in issues is the key to solving them!
Minor point - If you craft a pumpkin lantern by putting a torch into it, while it is in your inventory/in a chest it looks exactly like a lantern without a torch. So, if you are carrying both types (lit and unlit) it is impossible to tell which is which until you place them in the world or are careful about remembering where each type is in your inventory.
Only found 2 so far. 1) my world says its 0.0mb big, but when i load its all still there.
2)i walked some distance away from my portal in hell, ran back and went through just to end up about 300 feet from my actual portal....in a new portal lol. Other then that i'm happy =]
I don't know if anyone has already said this or not (I didn't see anything in the above post about it). So I wanted to add this, and hopefully shed a little light on some of the texture glitches people have pointed out, specifically concerning gray-scale leaf particles, and different grasses for top and sides.
I discovered this because immediately when I got the update, I extracted the new Terrain.png file in hopes of integrating my variant on Painterly's texture pack into it (I think painterly has kinda spoiled me on the textures thing, so I can't stand the original textures anymore). Anyway, the first thing I notices was the portion of the Terrain.png file that handled the surface grass and the leaves are BOTH gray-scale now. I realized this is how Notch must be managing the textures for the biomes. The actual textures themselves have no color at all (for leaf blocks in either fast or fancy graphic settings and surface grass). I'm assuming what goes on in the game is that their is some sort of color tint overlay over the textures when in the game, with each biome having its own tint setting.
SO, when you destroy leaves, the particle that is created is textured by the leaf texture (same as the block) but it doesn't receive the tint, hence its in gray-scale (like the actual texture is).
In turn, the dirt sides of the grass covered dirt blocks is not in gray-scale at all (hence it look like the same old color, and clashes with the new colors). I thought perhaps if I simply made the grass portion of the dirt side block into gray-scale as well the tint would get applied to it. I tested this out in game, and found it did not, and the gray-scale texture I setup on the dirt block side was just still gray-scale. From this I surmised that the biome color tints are specifically applied ONLY to leaf block textures, and surface grass textures, at present anyway.
I assume this would have to be modified by Notch, as it has to do with the programing not the textures themselves.
I hope in time he has a chance to set the dirt block sides to get the tint for their grass portion too, or allows us to turn off the tint effect and use the old texture packs if we want instead of the new leaves and grass tinting, or else changes it so that each biome uses its own set of textures (the advantage there would be more options for texture packs, such as Pine tree textures occuring only in appropriate biomes). But its up to Notch of course. I hope this helps.

of facing infamy, I answer you."

I have also been having the portal issues. When I enter the portal above my house I am taken to a portal on the other side. When I take that portal back, I end up about 150 blocks away in another portal. Looking around There is another portal further from my house, when I get closer there is a FOURTH portal near the third. Entering any of these 4 portals all take me to the same one on the other side. That portal always takes me to the 2nd. I have spent over an hour just covering as much ground as possible trying to find a natural portal in hell, but without success. I also no longer have diamond picks or enough obsidian to make any more on the nexus side. In addition I lost my last diamond pick and 14 obsidian because i was on a block that was touching lava, which still lit me on fire. no worries, I tired to put myself out with water I brought. Yup, didn't know that water doesn't work in the nexus.
This update is also causing me to crash and worse.
Before, I had crashed only twice or three times, and I have already crashed 4 times now.
In addition, I just blue-screened, which has never happened on this computer.
Do monster spawn more at night now? I feel like I am getting piratically twice as many at night now.
Well looks like all the bugs I found have already been reported before I could even load the forums...
3 out of my 4 portals do not return me to where they should in over world. One of them will even send me 188 meters from where I placed the first portal. Step in portal, load nether, step back in portal, exit portal 188 meters away.
I killed a Ghast with only 2 arrows. I don't know if that's a glitch of a feature.
You can also create portals like this
Not sure if this has any influence on the likelyness of portals to fail to send you back through them.
