HaHa, and I guess that's gonna make it a little tougher for all those "I'm gonna buiild my base in HEll, cause I'm so awesome" players, is it raining fire that won't stop burning and destroying my safe house all around? OH no. I can't wait, oh I can't wait.
The new trend.
I am absolutely, without a doubt, building an obsidian bunker in hell as soon as possible.
I AM VERY EXCITE
Also, I REALLY DOUBT lanterns will require you to get a bunch of diamond pickaxes, then build an obsidian portal, and go to hell, and mine.
Just to get a lantern.
That would be retarded.
lanterns are probably just metal glass and coal (or a torch)
Although I agree that it would suck if you did have to get diamond and obsidian before you could get lanterns, I have a feeling you might. I can't see it being a coincidence that the blocks in hell just happen to burn for ever and so do lanterns.
I agree that it may be a poor choice. For me (I'm terrified of the dark) it would mean a new game would basically be "dig straight down to find some diamonds so I can start lighting my base properly". That being said, we still have no idea how long torches will last.
Another thing we may not have considered is randomly generated portals that we don't have to build ourselves. That would mean you'd only have to explore to get to hell and make some lanterns.
Also, any guesses as to what we'll need to mine these hell fire block things? I'd hope only stone pickaxes but realistically it's more likely to be iron. I sort of see hell as a more dangerous (but also more rewarding) than the normal world and so I don't think it's the first place you'll go after spawning.
Holy crap, now I really can't wait to get to hell and fight those Ghasts. On the issue of having to reach hell to get the mats for laterns, personally this would be the ideal solution to making this survival mode more survival like. I'm starting a new world too so I'm not stock piling laterns just for the update.
Ever-burning hell rocks would go lovely in my castle.
Lets hope that you can mine them AND pick them up AND take them to the real world.
Because I want them too.
I'm betting they are the resource you need for lanterns. Makes sense, doesn't it?
And it's everywhere, so it's abundant. Lanterns won't be a pain to create.
You think mining while explosive fireball shooting flying enemies are attacking you doesnt sound... like a pain? I suppose you wouldn't really ave to mine if you just dodge and pick up the blocks that got blown up.
tbf, i am kinda disappointed at how the portals work :sad.gif: so once u in hell u HAVE to either create a new portal or use one u already made. No option to find a wai out of hell if u can't get back through one of ur portals. Atleast that's what i got from reading the article.
Wow, can't believe this only just came out and most of the forum are oblivious to it.
All I can see is that I am not disappointed. Never thought it would look like this, but nevertheless it looks awesome. But hell (no pun intended), I never thought this is why Notch wasn't able to kill them!
Finally a use for obsidian, but was actually a bit disappointed that it was Obsidian used - consider that if we can craft lanterns only from hell's materials, then it will take a little while to find some Obsidian and by that time, our torches would get burnt out. Don't really care though to be honest! It's all good!
But for me, I am anticipating Biomes a helluva lot more than Hell. I never really understood Hell until now, and even though I actually love it now, biomes is what it is for me. Some people are saying he is neglecting them and probably has forgot them, but as the post says he hasn't - and anyway, he said previously the only problem with them was the transition between the two biomes - making the biomes themselves was the easy part. I'm guessing after a good month to work with, biomes have been done for some time.
I'm assuming this new block type with no real function will be some sort of tropical grass block for a tropical biome as opposed to the temeperate grass/dirt block. However, if there's no jungle (tropics) biome I'll be disappointed because essentially all the biomes the blog has mentioned exist already in some form such as sand on the shore, and forests exist already.
