Ya I have no idea whats wrong. Portals won't light. Do I have to be in a world generated after the update?

^This is the correct set up? I've made three portals, all this this set up, one underground and two outside. Just doens't seem to want to let me light it.
I'm having the same problem as well. I was able to create one successfully to enter the Nether realm and I tried to create another one inside the realm and the portal just won't activate (the wood just burns inside the frame and nada).
Errr, placing wood and lighting it on fire works to activate a portal? I didn't think it would because the wood would be blocking it.
yeah, it has to be F&S

I love Blizzard, but god help me, WoW is a giant money engine that uses human souls as fuel.
No, I did not pirate the game. I purchased it legitimately and downloaded from the mine craft website. Can someone just tell me how to manually update the game? Without losing save files.
Thank you for proving me innocent of stealing from Notch.
Now then, I'll try that. It would be possible on a Mac right? Not sure if you would read I'm a Mac on my earlier post. If I can't figure it out I'll come back and ask for some more details. :smile.gif:
When I look in the inner documents and files of Minecraft and at the description on my computer it says that Minecraft is at V 1.0.0. But when I log in it says V 1.2.6 at the top left of the screen. Also I started a new game and bioms seem to be functioning.
My question now is do I have to be using a save made after the update to get to the nether? Maybe I just have to travel until new territory is generated? Then it might work.
Alright, I tried a few different things the other day and still not working.
I am in a winter level, when the update came out I noticed that it had stopped snowing but the snow didn't go away. Only after I dug it up would it stay away. I journeyed to a point where new ground was being generated (and almost got lost) to try a portal and noticed that all the new territory had snow on it... but it wasn't snowing.
I'm just thinking that the fact that I'm in a winter level is whats screwing up my portals. Something with the update and biomes isn't meshing with a winter level which throws all the new things off such as the nether. Hold any water? I am not savvy with the programming or anything so I'm just pulling ideas from the air.
Wait... I also have a snow biome map right now. One with enough trees, but not too many.
I'll run a quick test, just so we can be sure it's not a biome specific issue.
EDIT: Nope, portal worked. Found a ghast almost as soon as I entered.
Unless the biome was a different type then mine. I remember seeing that there were several types of biomes, including a few that had snow.

It might be worth mentioning that I am on a Mac.
It might be too tall
Or you torrented the game
It's possible theres so much hellstone/lava in the way, the gate can't be placed.(as-is)
I would be wary of the second gate too.
If it's the first gate, the world at the other side won't be generated yet though, right?
I'll try building it some distance away and see what happens.
too tall
Hey may not be on version 1.2.6.
I watched a vid on youtube and I thought he was on peacefull. I'll try both ideas adn get back to you, how do I check my minecraft version?
yeah, it has to be F&S

Is there anything special I have to do to get it to light? Just make it and use the flint and steel on the middle with the right click?
Portals work on peaceful... Derp
