There are WAAAAY to many spawns now. WAY too many.
Before the update I was all the way underground and had my little underground house/ base station and from where I would branch out and mine. I had minecart tracks all over the place and in short, it was very nice. It was my underground home and that's where I stayed most of the time.
And then the update happened.
Yes, nether and fishing are cool, blah blah blah, but Notch has ruined it by adding SO MANY more spawns to the game. Now, every 1 minutes, those creepers and zombies and all spawn near me and attack me. I'm just minding my own business making redstone circuits and they kill me from behind. It's starting to pi$$ me off now. I want to mine and play the game but what's the fun when you get ninja'd or mobbed by so many creatures all the time? The concept was good...as you go deeper the more torches you need to keep the mobs away, but Notch has somehow messed it up by making the Mobs too immune to the light.
The sounds are great, I love it, and it's damn creepy hearing those creepers, but the frequency at which they attack me and kill me has ruined the game.

It's just a balance issue. There's always a balance problem after you change the way any game works. No big deal.
I understand that but I thought Notch has been working hard on this and would have discovered this. i would think it wouldn't be too hard to change the code for mob spawns.
And I think it is a big deal because now the game's almost unplayable at night :\

Take a breather and step away from the game for a bit.
I, for one, never noticed a difference. From the beginning my worlds always had HORDES of monsters to begin with. If it DOES produce more than usual, I wouldnt notice. Not to mention that Notch stated that monster-spawn code is tied into biomes now. The type of biome you're in (and yes, pre-patch areas still count as biomes) alters the spawns a bit.
Also, if it's the "deeper/harder" bit you're complaining about, DONT GO SO DEEP. Go up higher a bit and make a base there. Yeah, it's annoying, but that's how this works with this sort of game; new features get added, and you gotta deal with them one way or another. And frankly, deeper=harder just makes SENSE, at least to me. Deep caverns SHOULD be more dangerous.
The deeper you are the more picky the spawning system is about light levels, simple solution add more light and fight through it, torches (witch are still in atm and will become laterns once laterns are added) work just fine for doing this. Or you can use alertnative lighting methods. So it's really not the spawn rate it's the light level and depth.
How much light do you need exactly, unknow something to research and find out. But if you want to ragequit, hey it's your choice play what you like not everyone likes every update, but I think the biggest problem with people getting upset and up and quiting is lack of information or mis-understaning information. If you get all the info and you just don't like it and don't want to play anymore, hey thats your choice and nothing I say here or anyone else will change it, so have fun in other games, and if you just came here to vent/spout your opinion thats fine, in that case my post is more for about others with the lack of info and not meant to try to change you mind if it's already made up.
Lengthy and probley a bit over-done but cosnidering hwo thigns can be on these fourms, thought it was needed. Take care.
If this bothers you so much to the point where you've lost interest in the game, when you're busy building something, and don't want to deal with any deadly mobs, set your difficulty to peaceful until you're done, or until you feel like you want your precious ill-forgotten mobs back.

Thanks for your understanding. The forums here seem much nicer than the other one's I've been in. I didn't mean to rage that hard, I was getting quite annoying. Yeah, I'll turn down the setting to Peaceful until I feel like getting the mobs back. I'll definitely continue playing this game.
Hopefully Notch might make the mobs a bit more sensitive to light, but for now Peaceful sounds okay.

Notch probably spent a few hours knocking it together and did little testing. Agile development and Alpha testing. Look those words up. We are Alpha testers so are expected to TEST. If you want a polished game wait until it is officially released.

Or you could put more torches down. It is what I had to do to secure the upper levels of my Stargate Command map.
Yeah, the massive mob spawns are a little annoying (although I'm all for it happening sometimes, maybe whenever the 'Red Moon' gets implanted). But I'm sure Notch will sort it all out. Just remember, he hasn't had time to see any of our feedback yet. Heck, you might even see a fix within the next couple days.

Hey not a problem, it seems that if the glow stone/sand that were finding in hell/the nether is whats used for latterns that they may be acutally a bit brighter then torches, we'll have to wait and see of course untill laterns are acutally added and if they use that.
Everyone gets fusterated and angry, i've done it too, sometimes need to vent and others take it for trolling becuase well unfournlty there are people who do that just to get attention. Benfit of that doubt I say and your response shows me why I still do that, so thank you as well as again no problem. The game is still fun and does offer a bit more of a challange i'm sure as things get closer to beta here soon we'll see more tweaking of the diffculity settings as notch has said he wants to do at some point. The good news is, the game isn't done, so it's not final. Enjoy!
yet another butthurt thread about the OP not having enough torches. I can tell there's going to be a ton of these.
either tone the difficulty down or improve your areas, ITS NOT HARD.
How about you read the ENTIRE thread and see that OP no longer has a hurt butt. He raged a bit (honestly not that much compared to what you usually see around here), but is now fine. If he continued to cry pointlessly, sure, BBQ him, but he didn't. This thread is basically solved now except for all the new posters who are gonna only read part of the first post.
tl;dr LRN2REED THREADS INSTEAD OF tl;dr. Seriously people, it's a communication system based entirely on words. Read ALL of them before kicking your cent and a half onto the pile.

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.

Wait, what type of Biome does the pre-patched areas count as, assuming they're just normal grass areas?

Go with easy or peaceful mode then.
