Right now, it seems that all the trees in Minecraft are little cherry-tree sized things. With the addition of alpine forests and tropical forests, I'm looking forward to towering snow-covered pine trees jutting up towards the sky, and tropical un-broken canopies of leaves that stretch to the horizon, with thick trunks supporting them.
One thing that I think would really set biomes apart from eachother is differences in trees, evergreens and deciduous, small and huge.
Hopefully. Larger trees, different colors, and things of the such set biomes apart. Maybe entirely new leaf blocks are in order, for pines and such. We can't have leafy pine trees o_o
You can get tall trees they just need to be near a vertical surface. Has anyone done a "science of trees" yet? My own experiments provide very mixed results.
A major thing I want to see added is leaves going away when you chop the tree down. It gets annoying having to go around setting all the old foliage alight :tongue.gif:

I dunno, I like the idea of having dense, delicate forests that can be utterly annihilated if you are foolish enough to start a fire or drop lava near them. It is just like real life that way (except for the lava part). Of course, there is a possibility that the map gen itself will spawn lava in the middle of a forest, which would just sort of be dumb.

Actually, a tree will randomly grow into a large one
How do I know? I grew a large tree on a tree. Making freakish forests is fun :biggrin.gif:
If there were huge forests, first thing I'd do was light them on fire :biggrin.gif:
It'll definitely save on lanterns when you first start a new map, would it not?

I'm the kind of guy when God looks down and says "I didn't make that."
That would be nice, variation is always good to have and is a key ingredient to making the game more interesting. Especially for those of us who enjoy exploration.
Hopefully the below-ground world will have some variation in future updates. Such as different rock types associated with different biomes, or different cave types.
For instance cold regions could have ice caves, and places with a lot of water could have stalagmite and stalactite formations. Rocks types in the desert could be more tan/brown, or perhaps even reddish. Of course this is only a fraction of possibilities.
I wish that Notch would make it so 3/4 of the Trees in the Jungle Biome are the large trees. But, maybe have them allow more light? Otherwise the jungle would be pitch black.... On second thought...

Back in my day, sheep dropped brown mushrooms, and by golly we... Hated it, pretty much.

Yeah dude, the under-canopy of a rain forest is pretty dark.
Filtered light coming through thinner parts of the canopy and barely illuminating the ground underneath would look really cool imo.

Definitely want some more types of caverns. I want underground lakes!

Your thoughts?
Perhaps pine trees will drop needles we can use with string to fix durability of cloth and leather armor. :ohmy.gif:

They do, but really slowly
Especially if it was your spawn.
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
Thanks, voicelessbard for the great avatar and sig! (search him in the MC forums)
