Seriously Notch, what the hell man. The game holds literally nothing enjoyable for me until there is a degree of risk involved in me choosing to do things.
Absolutely not. Technically, he would be absolutely justified in leaving that as-is until the game hits beta. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see fully-functional MP, but he should focus on building the game's content to where it needs to be before he starts chasing bugs out of the code.
HOW IS NOT HAVING HP IN MP A BUG!?!?!?!? YOU CAN EASILY SAY THAT HE SHOULD APPLY ALL CURRENTLY IMPLEMENTED CONTENT INTO ALL ASPECTS OF THE GAME AND REMOVE ALL BUGS WITH THAT CONTENT!!!
oh god
And yes, while I agree that it should be a high priority, it shouldn't be the #1 priority at all.
In fact, the game is in ALPHA; That means he's supposed to add more content and fix a few bugs.
BETA is when he fixes bugs and is happy with the game's content.

This vote really comes down to whether you're primarily a survival or SMP player.
I'm survival through and through, but stuff like biomes, new mobs, new items to craft, craftable boats, and new block types would benefit BOTH modes. SMP health... well... that only helps the 50% of you who care about SMP more.

I don't play SMP that much compared to Single Player, so I wouldn't care.
Though, this is currently what makes SMP boring for me... Although, I feel Notch is not promising this not because he's ignoring it, but rather because it's a problem to fix. Health/damage is a pretty big part of Survival, and I feel if he could get this feature in to SMP right away he would.
I say yeah, just because I want to see the people who have slaved away at giant meaningless structures cry when a small army of creepers breaks through the town walls and suicide bomb everything. That's another thing. I think Notch needs to add smarter AI. Have monsters join together, creepers blow down the walls, spiders go in next while skeletons provide cover, and then zombies pick off the weak. It'd be epic to have ACTUAL survival multiplayer, where you dread the night and crawl underground with a bow and arrow and just sit while you hear explosions bring down the city walls.

That's a great reason hahaha. Notch has said in an interview (I believe with IndieGames.com, but that may be wrong) that he prefers old-style, unintelligent AI. That would be ballin though.

Ohh wow im sorry, I wasnt aware YOU set the guidelines on ALLLLLLLLLLLLL gaming development steps in the world....pfffft. Just for everyone's future knowledge of the subject (and so you dont make yourself look like an idiot like a couple of people here), there is no RIGHT way to design a game, no stage of development whether it be Alpha, or Beta has to follow set guidelines. Its up to the creator to decide when the next stage of development takes place and what he/she will include in it. GAME

What's up with you and flaming?
And the alpha - material beta - bugfix thing is one of the most common methods of designing; Especially in indie games; And around the forum I've seen mods say "Beta is standard form for fixing bugs" and top posters using the statement in heated arguments. Also, I read Notch's twitter.
But you have one, tiny valid point that's about to die from loneliness.
That Notch could've changed his technique of designing since then, but it's not likely.

There are "better than other" ways for sure, but you are right on!
In one of my games, it was impossible to die until the story was implemented, just because I wanted everything else to work first.
Every developer has his/her own style.
People who doesn't code ignores that some things are a pain in the ass to do and you prefer to save it for later when other things are done.
Doesn't that make you in agreeing to the "No" people?
I don't really care if HP gets added to SMP right now. It would make sense to finally be able to die and kill the new enemies just in time for the Halloween update, but I think adding HP would slow down development.
If its not found in the newest update you will find it latter on down the track, so don't get too worried. Surely he'll add HP back into the game latter on, I think we should just let him get the things he wants to do and then back onto the other elements of the game. Sure it wont be won't complement the game that its gone, but shouldn't be worried either.
On the the other hand this game is still in Alpha, not even in beta! So its prone that there are elements that are going to lack.
The poll doesn't really matter, man. I don't think 100 people out of 437989 will really be influencing however Notch will be handling it.
I don't think that the opinions of 437989 people would really influence it either, even if polls are supposed to represent the larger population's opinion with smaller populations (i.e. the poll indicates half of those 437989 people say yes, and half say no).
I think what's going to influence it is how easy/hard it will be to get done.
I would love to see the health get implemented in the next update. Even if it's buggy, its better than not having it at all. It's not much of smp without the survival. I think that just trying to get the basics down before adding anything new should be most important.
However, I'm not questioning Notch's development style. It's worked so far, and it'll continue to do so.

I think there are too many MMO players here.
Minecraft is a single player game
I stopped reading there.
SSP does and always will get boring after a few hours, unless you just build in it with edited inventories.
SMP will be the lifeblood of the game in the end, especially since the game can be pirated for SSP, not SMP.

I want to see HP fixed, but I also want to see servers able to turn off fall damage. I like building tall structures...and i'm kind of clumsy.
You put those two things together with fall damage and you have...well, me splattered on the floor a lot.
But I kind of don't want health, because if health works, then I can't jump off of tall things. ^^"

Modedit: User was warned for this post.
Multiplayer isn't a priority for me. I'd prefer some fashion of protecting what you make in multiplayer over multiplayer damage models working.
