A couple days before the siege the moon should slowy get redder and redder. Probably like 3 nights before. When it's midnight on those night a creepy bell sound should ring telling you how many night left till siege. Eg 3 rings 3 nights before siege. When it happens looooooots of zombies should spawn all over and they all go towards you whether they can see you or not. They should also be able to dog pile so that a floating cube can't save you. They should only destroy blocks when they're progress towards you is impeded. This insures imense but not ridiculously horrific destruction. Wow. So yeah. My spewed thoughts.

Join the CCCU (center for creeper counseling and understanding). They have feelings too.
This is actually an epic idea, red moons could ramp the spawn rate up for the monsters, we definitely need a more than casual version of night as currently night isn't dangerous enough, and never comes close to it because it never changes in dangers. The only things currently that will change spawn rates or danger rates are what is to come in the update (hell itself and depth affecting safety). So red moons of rallied monsters attacking just sound great. Maybe there could be monsters that only spawn on a red moon (in the normal dimension at least) and are very dangerous to take on (like speculation of the ghasts).
Or you can build looping minecart track. when Zombie Sieges happens you start riding you minecart and the zombie will just follow you like a bunch of idiots
