As a note, I renamed the realm from "Heaven" to Paradiso in order to quell the religious bickering going on in this thread. Notch changed the name of the Hell realm to something else, so adding a Heaven realm wouldn't quite fit now. This way, the new realm I am presenting can take liberties with what it includes.
The Rough Concept
It could be high above the clouds (This would necessitate a higher sky) and have angels or other creatures flying around in it. I suggest a higher sky so you can still build large towers without reaching Paradiso if you don't want to. This way your tower wouldn't be bothered by the creatures inhabiting Paradiso and this would also make it harder to reach (Makes sense). This higher plane in the world of Minecraft would have solid clouds that you could mine and mystical creatures such as angels, flying pigs, dragons, etc. that you could interact with. There would be structures and land specific to Paradiso too. Unlike the "Hell" realm which you can only reach by digging, Paradiso would only be reachable initially by the other spectrum that makes Minecraft so enjoyable: Building. Initially, you would have to build some sort of tower or stairway to Paradiso, but once you reach this place you could hunt flying pigs or angels and take their wings in order to fly for a short period of time or mine clouds for their special property.
[EDIT] - I suppose a good way to add this realm without affecting the game as it is would be to "portal" into Paradiso instead of just going really high up. This way Paradiso could be added at any stage of Minecraft's development since it doesn't directly affect Minecraft's already created land and boundaries. Still, I would like a higher sky someday! :tongue.gif:
Anyway, this is the rough idea for Paradiso and how this place will fit into Minecraft. Now onto some finer details.
The Vision
Paradiso would be high above the clouds where solid, stationary clouds would reside (Solid, moving blocks would screw up things). Land and other blocks would make makeshift bridges to other clouds to form a larger land rather than singular clouds. Upon these clouds and land could possibly be trees, rivers, and palaces made of a new Marble block (I'll touch on this in more detail later on).
Enemies and NPCs - I believe I've heard Notch say he wanted to add dragons to the game eventually, well I'm pretty sure all of us view dragons as these mythical and very powerful creatures. Well, what better place to put them than Paradiso? They could be a very powerful and rare enemy, almost like the guardians of Paradiso. As well, flying pigs, griffons, pegasi and angels could inhabit this world. i would envision griffons as being hostile, but flying pigs and pegasi would be a non-threat (Though, a fun twist could be a hostile male unicorn with wings that gets angry when you attack female pegasi who don't have horns). However, angles would be more of a neutral party. They are the "good" force of this place and are very powerful as well, but they only attack you if you **** them off (kinda like the chickens in Zelda).
New Blocks and Items - Paradiso would have structures almost like palaces that are made of a new Marble block. It's a very aesthetically pleasing block and perhaps you could use these blocks to craft a marble slab that you could take apart pixel by pixel instead of block-at-a-time in order to make fancy and detailed sculptures. In order to make this work, you would need a pickaxe to take it apart by pixels and either your bare hands or any other object to take the sculpture apart by whole blocks.
Cloud Blocks could also be added as an easier way to get to Paradiso or for whatever your imagination can come up with. Once you mine a cloud block and place it somewhere, it will float up from the ground until it slowly reaches Paradiso and rejoins the special clouds that only Paradiso has. It could have the ability to support your character's weight as if it were nothing, but it could only support the weight of about two or three of any other block aside from Marble which would be weightless (hence the reason why all of Paradiso's structures are made of Marble; or at least they would need a Marble base since it would cancel out the weight of other blocks as long as they are on top of a marble block). This idea could be debated. Cloud Blocks don't necessarily need to feel weight, but even so, both blocks would serve a purpose.
As for new items, you could get Golden Wings from angels and normal wings from the other creatures in Paradiso (of course, Golden Wings would last longer, but they're dangerous to obtain). Golden Wings would last long enough to get you to Paradiso from the ground, whereas normal wings would lose their strength and return you back down to the ground before you can reach Paradiso. There's other items that could only come from Paradiso, but I'd rather leave some things up to Notch if he grabs ahold of this idea.
[EDIT] - Actually, how about a craftable parachute to slow your descent from Paradiso instead of having to waste Wings returning back to land. It could have a cloth block in the middle (Personalize your parachute's color!) and strings surrounding it. You could wear it like a backpack (Chest armor slot) and deploy it by pressing one of the keys on your keyboard. This way there's more than one method of leaving Paradiso.
.
So there we have it. Some rough ideas for Paradiso as well as some purpose rather than just being a place to explore for no reason. I'd really like to hear some more ideas from the community. I think this idea would add even more fun and possibilities to the world of Minecraft. Please put your beliefs behind you and realize that we're talking about a video game here, and please keep the ideas coming. Lots of cool things can come of this so lay down some ideas and provide constructive criticism where it's needed. Maybe one day Notch will be so kind as to put this on his to-do list, but until then, keep the discussion alive and be open to new ideas.
How about for Christmas we get a "Heaven" realm update? :tongue.gif:
It could be high above the clouds (This would necessitate a higher sky) and have angels flying around in it. It wouldn't necessarily need block land, but how about some extra clouds that are much higher than normal clouds that you can stand and drift on? That would be pretty awesome.
I'm not sure we need a higher sky for this.
What if it's accessible the same way as Down Under?
That way, it's just an island with fake clouds below it.
But what exactly would we do in this "Heaven"?
Mine ores from the clouds?
Don't you think for the people who don't believe in god, that would kinda be a slap in the face? Why not just raise the Sky limit by 64 and end it there?
It could be used as a slower, more relaxed way of travel since the clouds constantly move. Also, if there was a way to make the same clouds repeat (make a round-trip) then you could build something on a moving cloud and see it float by every now and then. Also, you could kill angels to get their wings and fly for a limited amount of time so you can get to Heaven without having to build a block tower. There are as many possibilities with Heaven as there would be with Hell.
Also, I suggest a higher sky so you can still build large towers without reaching Heaven if you don't want to.

@Mattman - Wouldn't Hell be just as controversial then? This is a video game meant for entertainment purposes. It's not meant to preach gospel or put down religious people.

So how is Hell not as controversial as heaven? One is parallel to the other.

Because this 'Hell' is basically called that for the lack of a better word. Obviously Notch took some inspiration for the look from some human concepts of hell, but the concept of what it is, and how it works was inspired by "The Ways" from "The Wheel of Time". Hell in minecraft is not there to be a place where grievers go when they die, but a method of fast travel through an alternate dimension, but one that is extremely dangerous and should not be traveled lightly.
Heaven should be a cloud we spawn on once we die that gives us a bird's eye view of the area so that we can choose the next place we spawn in at. :ohmy.gif:)

Somehow, I really don't think Notch cares about your hypersensitivities. If he wants to put Heaven in, he'll put it in; if he doesn't, he won't.

Well this is just me but... Water moats are so wet and dirty and annoying.... Real men make moats of liquid hellfire forged in the bowels of the earth and torn from the teat of the unholy adminium. Real MANLY Men create a LAVAFALL of death.
I like it.
But it needs some extra incentive for us to go there like Hell assists in transportation. Maybe you could change the weather or something from up there.

this is a silly argument for the obvious and previously stated reasons.
I would say hell (in Minecraft) is a dimension, not necessarily the "down under" you think it is. Heaven would be kinda a "slap in the face" (if thats the words you so choose) to people like me, who choose to not believe. (Im not saying there isnt a "god" but I have decided not to believe; so say what you will but I dont care) However, implementing such a heaven into Minecraft would have little to no use. The wing idea, while interesting would not be what you would work with this kind of game. (just a thought) If you choose (unlike me) to believe that heaven is a good idea and no one is saying it couldn't be. Im just saying it would serve little to no purpose, so is it worth it. And that is the biggest question to this. Is what you say truly worth putting in this game? If there is even a hint of no, then the game would be better off without it.
Maybe if you make a hellgate while already in hell or an out-of-hell gate while in reality, it goes to heaven instead. And by heaven I mean several hundred blocks above the map limit upon which you fall to death.
Tylerburrito is that actually you? If so then hey this is mylenthes(On youtube)/helloworld123(PSN) if you even remember me. lol

You can't be serious. Maybe some kind of pegasus boots to temporarily walk on clouds or something, or just floating islands, that are really high up but please, no "heaven".
Don't you think for the people who don't believe in god, that would kinda be a slap in the face?
IMHO, it would be at least as offensive to people who do believe in Heaven (of which I am one). And to whoever said Heaven and Hell are parallel concepts, no, I would disagree with that - but elaborating on the point would derail the thread. (If you want to know more, feel free to PM me.)
That said, it could be very cool to be able to have some way to build on clouds. Talk about fast travel - as long as you want to go north! Though probably a built-up cloud would become stationary.

No. Good lord, no.
Hell is not actually Hell. It's an alternate dimension that just so happens to look like the Hell we all know and love, and is named because of that.
Adding "heaven" would just be ridiculous. And not to mention really lame.
