Macs running 10.4 can't run multiplayer. Hopefully that is fixed!
No, it won't fix it, stop being lazy and upgrade your systems. It's like a Windows user running Windows 98 still, jesus christ.
Chill out. 10.5 came out in 2007... that means 10.4 has been out of date for just 3 years. It's nothing like running windows 98. I'm not paying a pile for a new OS when I've owned this computer for just over 3 years. I'll get a new one soon... It was just worth asking. OS X 10.4.11 is still fairly common.

No, it's not common at all, Macintosh OS updates are actually useful, unlike Windows updates which just make your screen look different (Hence the reason people happily run XP without losing out on any performance, maybe even gaining some)... so upgrading to Leopard, or ideally Snow Leopard is extremely important. You don't understand how the tech world currently works if you think being 2 generations behind the current software is "common"... 3 years is a VERY VERY long time for tech in this day and age.. You running on a Titanium Macbook as well?

Again, chill out. I'm not saying it's common because I think it should be. I'm saying it's common because it's still relatively common. Some 10% of Mac users still use 10.4. Granted, Mac users make up only 7% of the OS market, so we are talking about 1% of personal computers.
I'm not running 10.4 anyway. I have snow leopard. I've just seen a fair number of threads about multiplayer issues with 10.4, so I figured we could get a fair bit more SMP players if this is resolved. Not everyone feels the need to constantly have the newest version of everything... not when it's just for email, internet, etc. So if a patch or update could fix this problem, we could get more people involved.
This is an issue with java on Mac 10.4 at its root. I'm not totally familiar, but I think fixing this will resolve some issues with some versions of Linux as well. That would be nice.
I'm seriously shocked people are still on 10.4, that is seriously outdated and hasn't been updated security wise.
Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" was released on April 29, 2005
Pretty damn old, just buy Snow Leopard it's like $30, they call it an upgrade but you can install the entire system with the upgrade disk, just boot up off the DVD. Your system will run so much better, 10.5 has massive speed improvements over 10.4 and 10.6 even more so.
Notch should only really worry about 10.6 and 10.5 at this point but even 10.5 should get the back seat
Yeah, it's true. Just trying to find new ways to get a larger minecraft crowd.
Lol @ mac geeks. Why would you force people to buy random updates they don't even need.. $30 is not cheap for nothing..
Thus: minecraft should support those 10.4 users! hooray!
How long until he comes back? Did you even read what he said? He'll destroy us all!

Notch, who art in Sweden, hallowed be thy name;thy website come;thy updates done,in Alpha as is in Beta.Give us our daily bacon. And forgive our griefs,as we forgive them that grief against us. And lead us not into lava;but deliver us from creepers. Amen
