So I was thinking about alchemy and what it would take to craft such things, notch has already siad that he likes the idea of a hexagon crafting grid so alchemy cant be done on a toolbench so I was thinking something like a cauldron
so i propose

This gives a use to gold
Also discuss possible recipes^.^
Notch has stated before that gold will be used as a magic-friendly metal (easy to enchant and stuff), so I think it's definitely going to play a role in alchemy.
Im hoping to see some more offensive stuff out of alchemy, something you can throw or lay down to kill mobs, because at the moment you have a sword and if you want to waste TNT you can make a land mine or if you can be bothered you can make a zombie trap. Something like that would be cool because the way i think of it, alchemy is making base materials turn into gold so if you did that then you would get pointless gold again:(
Whatever object Notch decides to use to represent the alchemical process, I would like to see the formulation process a combination of the current craftbench system and the way the furnace works, so there is an element of time and the need to fuel the process as well as having the right ingredients.
I would be pretty excited by 'anything' that is added to the game, particularly alchemy which, at least if it's not sensible by today's standards of science, does have it's roots in our history. From the point of view of my creating a Steampunk theme, where I'm wanting to get as many graphical uses out of the game's building blocks, I'm always looking forward to any new object and alchemy would really fit in with my Minecraftian world view. Though i wouldn't want it to become too 'swords and sorcery'.
Alchemy was always about transmuting one element into another more precious element, but I think this would be a little limited in Minecraft as it stands, and would detract from the enjoyment of searching for those precious blocks like diamond. I would love it if it was possible to use the process to convert our current building blocks and other objects into 'trophy' items with which to decorate our worlds, and more advanced 'machinery' components for things like pumps, pulleys, shafts and cogs, etc.

Just daydreaming....
Oh! I like where that idea's going. That kind of thing has potential, imho.
