I'm not sure this has been mentioned, but lanterns should be affected by redstone the same way doors are.
Lanterns should work just as well without redstone, but redstone should allow us to toggle them on and off. It would be really awesome to have the lights go on when you enter the room for example.
I also think the new clock should affect redstone like a pressure plate does. It turns on at nights, and turns off during the day. This would allow us to have better lighting in our homes and lighthouses as well as dynamic track switching.
