The devil is in the details. I'm not planning to side for or against the idea untill I know exactly how long they last. Days? Hours? It could make the difference between semi-useless torches that require tedious maintenance to perform at all and a nice element of risk paid for in material efficiency.
I am too. In a game where darkness plays a big role in a lot of the gameplay, having very cheap light sources kills the challenge. This is for the best.
Just fill as many large chests with full stacks of torches as you can. That should be all you need to do. :ohmy.gif:) More torches for lanterns, less hassle. Something I'm definitely considering.
Am I the only one who is going to create as many torches as I can beforehand so that I have a massive supply of lanterns but not actually use them
I'm planning a huge lantern farm.
A huge (50x50?) field of torches. Will be great.
Loads of people are saying they'll do that - what's the point? You can use an inventory picker or cheat engine to give yourself as many things as you want.
If you're going to cheat, then do it properly.
I also want burnt out torches to emit 1 square of light.. sort of a guidance-light
Well there are lanterns now, so you will still have infinite touches they are just gonna probably be harder to make. And since i have never once been low on touches given how conman coal is, this isnt a bad thing IMO
I just hope that the lanterns will be harder to make but not require more of the already scarce resources like iron.
Actually, something like requiring a piece of glass and a 3x3 recipe ensures that you cannot craft them in a cave, from a box of scraps, might be pretty nice. It will make you put some thought into choosing supplies for your mining trip

I have never found iron to be in terribly short supply, but thats because i will only use an iron pic if needed to get another ore and other then that i only use stone tools.
Anybody else with me on this? Or will my adventure here be like my game of Minecraft....alone.

This.
I hate hiding all night. Then, poof. Torch goes out. Gotta move. Gotta mine resources for lanterns.
Also, I imagine that the texture pack community is going to come up with some brilliant lantern textures.

Everything else is likewise badass.
1.the one i already instal?
2.the one in my inventory?
3.the one on wall i break down and pick up?

Although, lanterns better be awesome to compensate.

I support this idea.
If you want to cheat, just use INVEdit.

1) Enter a cave with one stack of torches (bring a sword too, if you REALLY feel it necessary).
2) Travel deep inside the cave.
3) Place the torches down along the way.
4) When you place the last torch down, stay there until it burns out. You then have to exit the cave without dying.
And hopefully these new monsters will just add even more thrill. :biggrin.gif:
Congratulations.
