(I wanted to see how well I could manage without caves and spelunking so I fired up MC and started taking notes.)
Day 1
This place looks pretty nice. Lots of water, so all the plantlife must be doing wonderful. It seems a bit odd that there's nobody living in such a rich environment.
-----
I spent most of the day gathering materials I may need. Stone and wood for tools, a few chunks of some really strong looking silver rocks (I think I may need to melt it out of the stone it's stuck in.), and some coal. I was lucky it was above ground, I heard it's hard to find things like that without digging pretty deep.
-----
It was getting dark, so I dug out a big area to keep my gear in for now. After building up a bit of a wall with the dirt I swear I heard some footsteps outside. It was most likely a pig drawn to the light from my torches. Little guy really needs to get to sleep. And so do I.
-----
I don't know what happened. Even with my torches it was still too dark to see what it was. It made clanking sounds, and I think it was shooting at me. I just barely managed to fight it off. The strangest part was that it didn't leave a corpse or anything. I'll patch myself up in the morning. Hopefully that little scare will be a rarity.
-----
There was something green. Maybe five of them. I had been planing cacti earlier, and with how fast it grows I thought they might have spread. No. The first one hissed at me and... I think it exploded? I tried to fight them off, but I tripped. I heard another hiss, and everything went dark. Before I passed out I swear I saw my own arm fly further than the rest of me. I'm writing this now, so that must have been impossible. I woke up feeling fine, but I saw two huge holes blown away. I don't know what to think. It's morning now.
_____________________ Day 2
I found some clay across from my walled hole. I might try making some bricks.
-----
I've been hunting cows, pigs and chickens for supplies. They don't leave corpses. I assume the sheep here don't either, but I see no need to kill them when striking them seems to do just fine.
-----
There was some more coal near ground level. I feel that my luck with coal is running out. There are a few more deposits, but I can't reach them just yet. If I can make a tall enough ladder I might have a chance. Building a house up there would be nice too.
-----
As bizzarre as it sounds I've still been planing cacti. If they are making the exploding green things I'll find out tonight. If not I feel safer with them around my hole. I get poked every once in a while, but it's nothing serious.
-----
Sunset. It's dark, but I think I see the shape of a cactibomb dancing (hopping?) around what I think may be a person. Could the cactibombs be a watch dog of sorts? Or maybe it's another one of those arrow shooting things from before, and not a person at all. Either way it means I'm dealing with many things that cooperate.
-----
They're not people. I got brave and found out. one thing filled me with hope. Arrowmen chased as well, but they shot the greenfaces. Either I witnessed in-fighting or they're not as friendly as I had feared. Either way I accept what little good news I can find with open arms.
-----
The sun must be playing a joke. The coast was clear so i did some quick night time cactus harvesting. I noticed something strange. I rarely bleed or get scratched no matter how much I get hurt (from monsters or cacti.) but I do notice I keep getting more and more hungry.
-----
The sun is rising, I have a ladder prepared, and I see a cow in the distance. This is going to be a good day.
______________________ Day 3
On my way to what I'm now naming 'Safe Cliff' I found something that filled me with joy. A burning greenface. It was perfectly fine in a little alcove when it saw me. The second it stepped out of the shadows it burst into flame. Shortly after during a quick cow hunt I met with three cactibombs. The first one was a good distance ahead, and I dealt with it before the others caught up. The second one circled around me, but I beat it down without so much as a pop. The third one went missing. After a brief search I found it at the bottom of a hole. It seems they don't deal well with heights.
-----
I used my ladder to scale Safe Cliff and I cleared it off. This is going to be a perfect place to hold out at night.
-----
Building was uneventful. I've only gotten a short wooden wall so far, not that I need even that. Still, I'd feel safer with a legitimate structure protecting me. I'll look into getting my hands on some glass come morning.
-----
My eyes have been adjusting to the darkness quite well. I wish they would stop. I can see too many Greens wandering around. Those red dots I keep seeing make me uneasy.
-----
The fear of insanity setting in and possibly boredom made me decide to set out back to the hole to gather supplies I left there. If I never write again it's because I'm dead.
_____________________ Day 4
I returned home to find a cow on top of Safe Cliff. For some reason I find this very irritating.
-----
Pork is starting to wear thin. I'm considering growing some grains for bread, but I don't have time for that until after Safe Cliff is complete. I'm leaving in just a minute to gather more wood for the walls. Glass is cooking up now, so windows are confirmed.
-----
Not much wood, but I did get more of what I have confirmed to be iron. I made a pair of doors and weight sensitive panels to open them. Sure it's not safe, as anything could get in, but if they can climb up here I've got more problems than that. Hsssssss... Boom!
-----
To the far east of Safe Cliff is a huge beach. If I need more sand I know where to go. To the west is the Hole. A huge body of water is to the south. I'll explore northward tommorrow.
-----
Tonight is bittersweet instead of it's normal overspiced, undercooked dish self. The monsters can't climb my ladder. Oh, and my windows are wonderful. I also discovered the red dots belong to giant spiders. Oddly I'm relieved it's something simple. The spiders, along with almost everything else that wants me dead, doesn't seem to swim very well. A long term project could be to look into making an underwater home. It would be risky to say the least.
-----
There's another set of cliffs to the south. I might be able to manage a bridge. It's possible to simply walk up those cliffs, so I would need security measures.
-----
Hahaha! Burn! All of you burn! Horrible arrow chucking bastards!
_______________________ Day 5
The first part of my day was planning. I knew the dirt floor would grate on me after a while, so I decided that a thin layer of wool carpeting would be the best option. I'm not sure why the sheep so readily give up their fleece, but I'm not about to complain. They live, I get wool. Win win.
-----
After I ran out of sheep I started chopping down as many trees as I could find. I knew it was time to stop when my axe broke. At least I assume it broke because it didn't leave anything behind. Like the monsters and animals. Still, I got a nice haul.
-----
The walls are up now, and I've got plenty of wood left to... I'm sure I'll think of something. I'll make a ceiling eventually, but the high walls and being on Safe Cliff means I'll finally be able to sleep tonight. I must be on quite the adrenaline rush because I don't feel tired at all.
-----
Not enough wool for carpeting. And wouldn't it be all itchy? I have shoes on anyways so it doesn't matter.
-----
It's simply amazing what one can do given enough time. I made a boat and sailed north. Nothing of interest for quite some time. The sun is setting so it'd be best to wrap this up for now.
-----
I got curious and wasn't punished for it. I explored the large beach to the east. (It is east, right? My compass might be broken.) The beach was exactly that. Just a beach. I was dissapointed. I think tonight I'll draw out a map of what I know so far.
-----
It feels like this night has been what would have been months had the sun cooperated with me. For some reason I can't bring myself to draw a map. It occurred to me that I don't even know what direction I came from to arrive here, and drawing a picture of places I've never been scares me. Instead I drew a few 'works of art'. I hung them around the home to make it feel like this world isn't trying to kill me. A lie to keep my blood pressure down.
-----
The last few hours of the night I spent hunting for Cactibombs. They've been dropping some odd black sand in place of a corpse. One exploded right next to me as the sun rose. It felt so exhilerating.
________________________ Day 6
I dreamt of a ghostly man in the short time I nodded off. He claimed to be the brother of the creator. He demanded that I wake up, and I did. Apparantly my subconcious finds it funny to make such obvious lies.
-----
Most of my day was spent mining for rocks. The cliff I'm stripping is getting a bit too deep for my liking. Even carving away the dirt to expose the east wall didn't settle my nerves. I may abandon it. Either way I feel compelled to gather stone as if I was ordered to prepare for something.
-----
It's amazing! I felt adventurous and I was rewarded oh so well! Using the last moments left of sunlight I traveled eastward to chop more wood. The brief few moments after sunlight and before hell arises to torment me I spotted a glow in the distance. Lava! An actual surface spring of lava! I'll need some way to move it, but it can keep me safe! Or at the very least it can light up a new house made of stone.
-----
Hearing footsteps in the sand as I passed The Hole sent a shiver down my spine and my heart skipped a beat. It was a pair of chickens.
-----
4 Chickens (two out of spite, two who somehow invaded Safe Cliff)
2 Greenfaces
1 Spider
2 (or was it three?) Cactibombs
1 Sheep (Also out of spite. ******* nearly got me killed.)
1 Pig (It was also up Safe Cliff. How do they get up here?)
-----
I've decided. I have to keep moving. If I stagnate it will only give me time to think. I need to keep busy. I sharpened one side of a stick. Whatever direction it points is where I head tommorow.
_______________________ Day 7
I threw the stick down to the ground below. When I found it it pointed eastward. I leave right away.
-----
I ran by a few unfriendlies and a large number of sheep. Wool is not in short supply. I never noticed before, but they all have the same doofy look on their face. It's cute.
-----
A cave... Or at least a series of tunnels. I don't have the daylight left to make my way back to Safe Cliff, so I fear I may have to set up something here. If I lose track of sunlight I know to head back. If it turns night while I'm near these caves I don't know what I'll do. Hopefully I can find some coal for torches. Not that I'd be using them to go deeper. Man was not meant to hide under a mountain.
-----
The sand was floating, daring me to go under. I respect physics, so I bashed it all down to prove the sand wrong.
-----
Night came. No, this isn't a cave. It's not, it's a hole and I gave it a ceiling. It's not a cave, I'm not underground. I wish that chicken had stayed with me, she could keep me company. Now I only hear the clanking of a Arrowman mulling about my ceiling that is not a cave.
-----
How will I know when morning comes? I'll have to dig away my ceiling not a cave. At least partly. But if I do that they can find me. I'll have to be creative and careful. I can do this. I will be safe in this home I built out of a hole that is not a cave.
-----
The chicken came back! That means I left a hole! My panic made the search much faster. I'm safe again. The only hole is now a trap I dug. Even if they fall into the hole in the ceiling there's a pit too large for them to climb out of. The only thing more dangerous than the horrible monsters trying to kill me is my razor sharp mind.
-----
Boredom is my worst enemy. I dug about and found a massive ... hole. It's near the corner of this house that is not a cave. Greta is nice company, but I really wish I had something to give her. Tea would be nice. Though if I had boiling water I'd prefer chicken soup.
-----
Greta says she's met the man who I dreamt about. His name is... I forget. The odd thing is I never mentioned my dream to her.
-----
The pained sounds of scrambling arrowmen told me I had survived the night. Greta, however, had betrayed me. She will be missed.
_______________________ Day 8
I... I don't know what happened. I looked around, saw some cactibombs... I trapped the idiots in a hole. When I tried to finish the last of them off I discovered a fourth and fifth. I woke up back at The Hole near where I first arrived in these lands. Was all last night a dream? It was so vivid. There's no point in dwelling on it. I also remember seeing parts of me I shouldn't have been able to. Like the side of my own head.
-----
Obviously Safe Cliff is misnamed. I'm missing supplies so something must have climbed up and taken them. The scary thing is what I'm missing was the items I thought I had brought with me.
-----
In the hours I set aside for building new tools I had some thoughts as to what happened. It sounds strange, but I believe this dream man to be a being with psychic powers. He made me dream of travel, and while I was asleep he stole the things I would have taken. I'd rather my explenation of paranoia and supernatural over the idea of having died.
-----
Chopping down trees makes me happy. I had a halucination of him while I was working. I suppose my subconcious is so desperate for companionship that even something that hates me will suffice as long as it's passively trying to kill me instead of chasing me down and throwing arrows. He says that Greta is fine and is sorry for what she did. The sun is setting, I need to get back to safe cliff.
-----
I went the wrong way. No, it was no accident. I wanted to check on the lava spring. There's still no way for me to move it around, and being so close to water makes it useless where it is. A dirt cliff hangs over the water nearby so like I dreamt of doing with sand I tried bashing this down as well. I now have a floating pile of dirt.
-----
A few spiders are off in the distance, but it's an otherwise quiet night. No rattling or moaning, and as long as I'm on this floating mound of dirt I won't be hearing any hsssss. Also I see a very attractive amount of coal nearby. This lava is like a savior or something.
-----
A cactibomb gave me more of it's black dust. When I dropped some near my of my few remaining torches it crackled. I'll examine what this can do later.
-----
Two sheep walked up to and into the lava spring. I named them Theodore and Franklin.
_____________________ Day 9
Before the sun had fully risen I was already stripping the coal away from the nearby cliffside. Forty-two lumps of coal in all. For some reason I feel like this coal is the answer everything. Something, rather.
-----
I've thought over the problem of moving lava. I'll need a bucket. If I could find some iron everything would be easy, but I may need to go deeper into the ground than I would like. I tremble at the thought.
-----
My experiments with the black dust turned out quite fruitful. I packed it up tightly and surrounded it with ordinary sand. Somehow the result was a bomb of some sort. My first test unearthed just enough iron ore to make a bucket to carry the lava with! I'm considering where to place the second bomb now.
-----
Making those bombs made me consider weaponry. I've been using crude swords, but the idea of long range attacks excited me. I crafted a bow and used some flint from the explosions to make arrows. I might even be so bold as to go pick up the lava tonight.
-----
The monsters could sense a true MAN was coming because there was nothing to be seen on my way to the lava spring. It's mine now. The sun comes up and I hear some cows that need to be taught a lesson.
___________________________ Day 10
I woke up around noon. When I say 'woke up' I mean from what I believe to have been 'sleep hunting'. I tripped and dropped the lava, but it simply expanded and flooded the island I was on. The source is easy to reach, so I'm not worried about it going away. The fact that all that lava came from a little bucket is amazing. I'll be investigating the properties of this phenomenon later.
-----
Water does the same thing.
-----
I keep finding myself wandering eastward. I don't know if I want to head back there. If there is a cave that looks like the one from my dream it would have horrible implications.
-----
Night isn't so terrifying anymore. I feel like I can kill anything that looks at me crosseyed. (The sheep are safe, as they can't even manage to look straight.)
-----
While I am a powerhouse and a veritable fountain of manliness I know my limits. Three Arrowmen after having run out of arrows myself is too much. This didn't stop me from taunting them as soon as I climbed my ladder to Safe Cliff. They're capable of climbing, but only accidentally at best. I will enjoy watching this one burn under the glow of sunlight.
-----
Being a jackass does not pay off. I moved too low while taunting and was knocked off the ladder. Sadly for the Arrowman I am MAN incarnate. He fell down a waterfall and I was left feeling slightly hungry from his attacks. I think I'll jump down to where he is and beat him to death.
-----
As the sun began to rise and my wrestling match with a spider ended I realized two things. First is my hunger, second is the boredom looming over me. I need to try something again. I head north after breakfast.
_________________________ Day 11
Food is sparse.
-----
I didn't lie about leaving after breakfast. Sadly I have no breakfast. I tilled the ground for seeds and started up a farm near home. After learning how shockingly determined sheep are to trample my freshly planted crops I fenced the area off. This has been an uneventful day. With how hungry I am it's going to be an uneventful night as well.
-----
Night guests visited my farm as I was trying to make some finishing touches and thankfully just after I installed a back door ladder. I hear splashing so I know my crops are safe from trampling.
-----
They're dead.

If a bunch of men with hardhats and pickaxes start digging up your floor, don't worry. It's only a miner problem.
Oh, that's nice. I like the sort of... Segmented bits? That's the best way for me to put it. If this gets a bt longer, would you like it to be in SoM? Link in my sig.

First to comment decides what direction I move to. North is vast waterland, south is... The same. East is the huge beach and west is back the way I moved from, further west being the lava spot.

The way it's set up doesn't give room for fleshing out. How I see it is the guy is making quick notes in a journal. When it's all done either I'll go back and rewrite it as a traditional story or give it to somebody who has spare time to do that for me.

Greta says she's met the man who I dreamt about. His name is... I forget. The odd thing is I never mentioned my dream to her.
-----
The pained sounds of scrambling arrowmen told me I had survived the night. Greta, however, had betrayed me. She will be missed.

Day 8

Day 9
Before the sun had fully risen I was already stripping the coal away from the nearby cliffside.

Day 10
I woke up around noon.

Day 11
Food is sparse.
-----
I didn't lie about leaving after breakfast.
I vote east :smile.gif:
This is a nice bit of writing but maybe it could be fleshed out a bit more and given a bit more thought?
