I've tried to host a SMP server with my Windows XP machine, but every time I do my machine loses it's connection to my router. :S It seems to stay that way until i restart the computer.
I used to host my server through my external with 20+ people connecting to it, had no problems, now if 2 people are connected i randomly lose all of my internet ONLY when minecraft server is running, i know it is minecraft, there is no certain trigger, it just happens randomly for me. Have to restart computer to fix, not gonna be hosting until this is addressed kinda annoying having to restart my computer every 30-40 minutes because of this.
(Yeah, im hinting towards notch broke something again.)
This has nothing to do with lag, its my internet dieing, there IS something broken in the multiplayer server. Whether its missing compatibility with my computer in some way or just blatantly broken it is a problem with notch and not me, a month ago i could host 20 people with no issues no lag nothing, now i cant host for 2 people without my internet crashing on my computer and FORCING ME TO RESTART IT.
yeah, sorry for leaving my topic unattended. I was away on military duty and didn't have time to check it. But, yes, I've tried creating new worlds. For me, it's the second i start up the server, is when I lose my connection to my router. Not just my internet connection mind you. This is without anyone connecting or anything like that. It's weird to say the least.
Try this.
Go to network and sharing center->change adapter settings (windows)
Right click your card/adapter and click properties
Press configure
Go to the power options tab
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device offto save power".

(once again, only happens with minecraft server)
Go to network and sharing center->change adapter settings (windows)
Right click your card/adapter and click properties
Press configure
Go to the power options tab
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device offto save power".
That fixed it for me. Good luck.
