Hello all,
Today I downloaded the new launcher in order to play 1.6.1 (on a mac). It started fine and succesfully downloaded the 1.6.1 jar, however once I clicked play, an application with the icon of a crafting table appeared in my dock, dissapeared after a few seconds and then the launcher window gave me the following error:
Game ended with bad state (exit code 1)
Deleting /Users/NameWithheld/Library/Application Support/minecraft/versions/1.6.1/1.6.1-natives-1372757974934473000
Just before the update I decided to download Forge in order to try out Flan's Mod. I do not want to keep Forge in 1.6 but the files are all still there. Does this have anything to do with it? I tried to get rid of Forge beforehand by force updating, but this, of course, did not work due to the client upgrade.
Please advise me on what to do in order to get Minecraft running.
Oh, and just to clarify, I am running the official build from the download page, not the "dev" version.
only way i know of to force an update is too delete all the minecraft files system its appdata\roaming\.minecraft and re running the launcher forcing it too re download the files, but that said ive tried this and it didnt solve my problem. hope you have better luck than I :).

Dear everyone with the same problem,
I am currently away from home and only have my IPad with me at the moment, so I can't test anything.
However, can I get it to work only by updating my java or do I have to do a manual force update aswell, as suggested by dan040052?

Thankyou for the reply. However, I still want to get rid of the forge junk once I get back to my computer. Is there any way to force update Minecraft in the new client? If not, I can always patch it to the new prerelease with MVC.
If your on windows and you can't find app data you have to type the exact file address
Something like ...user\(user)\appdata\roming\minecraft...

Just use [WINKEY]+R and then type %appdata% - that will get you there much faster.

I am very sorry about the late reply. I updated to the latest version of Snow Leopard (I just can't let go of PowerPC Nethack), got the java upgrade and am now on 1.6.2. Thanks!
I play on 1.6.4 and have this problem and I'm on windows. What I did is i switched in and out mods, opened minecraft, and see if it worked. I saw that some mods couldn't work properly. I recommend switching your mods in and out of the mods folder and have a folder where you put unused mods in there.
I'm on Windows as well and I have the same problem. Forge worked for me at one time but when I tried using a different mod, forge never worked for me again. I tried resetting Minecraft and reinstalling Java, it still came up with an 'Exit Code 1'.
