For some reason when I find a village, even when zombies launch a seige on it, absolutely no iron golem appears, so I have to make them myself. It's not very fun, though, and I hope someone can help me resolve this problem.
Dunno was able to spawn golems fine before the official 1.2 (I tested them out in creatvie just to see what they were like)
After 1.2 went official and now 1.2.3. I havn't been able to spawn any and consequenly was forced to build them for my survival NPC village which should have just about enough villagers to spawn a golem.... tho I havn't seen any village children so I'm not even sure if the NPC spawning is working propperly at all. I countered the fact I had to build them a golem with the fact that I have been able to scrounge a ton of track from the abandoned mine I found.
Also tried to spawn golems in creative 1.2.3 by spamming villager eggs in an existing NPC village with no effect ~.~
So initially it seemed to be overkill spamming golems left and right, now it seems like I couldn't get one to spawn if my (villagers) lives depended on it.
*experimenting with a reduction of doors on the buildings in my town to encourage "cohabitation", after which the removed doors will be reintroduced.
this is stupid. How about the villagers are smart enough to build a fence around their town? I got to a village with about 6 people and within the first night they all died. What's the point of finding a village if they aren't going to last more than one night?
when I start a new map I want to find a village and grow from there, but that is not possible becuase they are too stupid and golems are too random.
That's interesting, I would offer you to help you on this if you post up some screens. Like houses, villager count.
Hmm My village likely isn't the best example, when I found the one I'm working on in survival it was half buried in a hillside. It took me two real world days to dig the thing up and rework the gravel paths into something that resembled a village ~.~
I had to reverse the doors on a few houses since they were facing into the hill and make a path down to them. Thinking about doubling up on the larger houses and turning them into "condos". Likely going to toss in a few more houses too.
On a positive not after two nights in which I wasn't able to turn around without a creeper (or three) blowing up part of my village.... I gave up and started putting all the doors back. Just as I placed the last door, I noticed two village children running around at mach3. Wondering if it was somehow a glitch with my doors because since I put them back they have been propigating fairly permiscuously
I'll got take a head count I'm going to guess that its probably slightly less than 15 now tho, they hide rather well from zombies at night. However their AI could use some work since they seem perfectly OK letting the zombies in at first light.
Edit: as it stands about 17-20ish so probably less than that before I tried replacing a majority of the doors. Still unsure about the creative world tho maybe something is just stuck there too.
Its Sphax PureBRCraft, my signiture links to the forum topic
The smooth stone and flowing water are a little off in those screenshots but its because I havn't bothered checking to see if there is a new MCPatcher out. Its arguably one of, if not my favorite texture pack ^^
i have had a simmaler problem. i found a seed that spawns you near a village with about ten villagers in it, but dispite my makeing of multiple new houses, (three huts and one house) there has bean no improvement.

Its because the system checks a area. I guess because a lot of stuff is checked in a 40 tiles range, that its either 40 or 80 tiles. So the golem condition probably was only then fullfilled. But you can stlll get a second golem, if the golem condition is fullfilled again outside of the first golem. And if you pull the condition of again further away you can get even more golems with just 30 villager. At last you have villager Most people can't get them over 15 ehehehe.
I wasn't complaining, more proving that iron golems can spawn in time, if you have enough villagers.
I got a second golem, BTW.
Ah ok =) Sorry then for it. Just got it wrong then.
And grats to your second golem If you are lucky you should get even a third.
Nah, I blew up most of my villagers. I didn't like how they would all cram themselves into a SINGLE HOUSE.
When I broke the door on THAT house, they would all cram themselves into the NEXT house, and so on.
Thanks to TNT, I only have six villagers protected by two iron golems. But they are reproducing.
I know, I wanted to build your suicide tower, but this was before I had read about the crematory, so I figured I didn't have enough materials. Still, it's kind of awesome to see forlorn robots amble through the wreckage, with a few lone villagers scurrying about. Especially if you're on short render distance, because everything looks foggy.
Thanks for the villager spread tips! I usually play legit, so I'll probably have to use fishing rods or minecarts.
I made another map on superflat and found a humongous village with 23 buildings. After like a minute or so, an iron golem spawned, so it works, but just not on the other village. Thanks for the help!
Short render distance? Mmmh my render distance is on far.
The towers where quit the fun, but the materials to build them meh=/. Although they are dangerous when you build it, you can fall easily down, or get pushed by a villager down.
I saw your pillow suffocation station! Excellent work! xD
Villagers reproduce based on number of doors and a block specified in relation to door (loosened so it does not specifically require a roof) at a ratio of about 0.35 villagers per door. So double the size of the small buildings and add a door. And make a villager motel (more like a barn with a lot of doors).
I left the back open on this one big enough for golems to enter and leave. Zombies do not rush in, they seem to like to pound on doors. Occasionally a skeleton or creeper may wander in, but they do not bother the villagers.
I was sprinting to a village and this village has enough villagers to spawn an Iron Golem. However, I go to a different village, we see that there is no Iron Golem, so I spawn as many villagers as I can. Is it true that you need a villager spawn egg to get more villagers and spawn a Iron Golem?
Thanks!

Also does the iron farming still work?
