did you even consider smp? on any server with pvp these people will just roflstomp anyone.
also, you might get the smae stuff in the same amount of time, but you have to be active then. with a mob grinder, you can just go AFK and still get all the stuff.
Of course it doesn't embody the adventure aspect of the game, but building, mechanics, "making the world your own", are also very important parts of the game(though not everyone's playstyle has to revolve around it like some people seem to think).
Yeah, I get as wrapped up in the building as I do with the adventure. That's what makes Minecraft so great!

You knooow...in another thread someone recommended adding Cobalt to the game as a nod to Notch's Cobalt project. I suggested Cobalt, given it's not exactly the best material to make tools out of be combined with iron tools to create reinforced iron tools.
Anyway, that was a roundabout way of saying we could also balance this by making iron less significant by adding higher-tiered stuff.

i actually lol'ed at the staggering amount of hypocrisy you just pointed out.
Dude, what? You don't me, you don't know how I play. As I just said to ForeverATroll, I meant cave exploration.
I hardly ever branch mine (most ores are easy enough to find, and adventure is much more engaging to me).
To me:
No fun side of the spectrum - Automated mob grinders, efficient branch mining.
Yes fun side of the spectrum - Complex outpost defense mechanisms, exploring caverns by torchlight.

Interesting idea. Perhaps something to pitch over at the suggestion forums?
Don't mean to get so far off topic; but I personally think it would be nice to get a "stop gap" material between Iron and Diamond.
You would have to increase the rarity of diamond for that tool tier to be viable, IMO.
I would rather ores to have purposes relating to building/mechanisms, not tools/armor.
I don't think players should be scared of everything new that comes into the game. this is simply another alternative for gathering iron. this is what a sandbox game is about - there's many different ways that you can achieve the same goal. that's what makes MC fun.
i also believe that a lot of people oppose mob farms because they are afraid that the mob farmers are going to gain some kind of an advantage over them, when this really isn't the case. so instead of learning a new skill they complain and try to stop the game from evolving into something bigger.
like common guys, if something that was newly implement got squashed everytime someone complained we'd still be back in alpha.
mob farming isn't an exploit its and alternative way of getting to the same goal. its called a sandbox game.
Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
I have a better solution than taking fun away from a certain group of people by nerfing or not nerfing golem grinders. Why don't they just give people a reason to turn away from iron? Give some new great adventure for people to embark upon, a new resource or technology that can give you an edge. Minecraft is built upon the "thrill of the chase," that feeling of adventure when you kill a dozen creepers on Hard with your fists or construct a brilliant contraption. God how I wished there was a reason to stay through the night upon the release of beds, but then the Minecraft team pulled through and added XP and enchantments. With the skill and genius in the Mojang team, they can do the same for iron quite easily.
I think we can all essentially agree that we disagree.... we break down into essentially two groups when it comes to farming and there is little either group is going to do to persuade the other.
The first group likes to work smart and the second group thinks if you aren't smacking it in the face with a sword your doing it wrong.... The battlefield boils down to SMP and the battle cry on both sides is essentially "I shouldn't be forced to play your way". Farming isn't going anywhere any more than bashing things in the face with a sword.
What this should really boil down to are servers that do not approve of X should be running a mod to prevent it and SMP servers really shouldn't be running brand spanking new relatively untested snapshots in the first place without careful consideration and accepting the consequences of the potential unseen ramifications.

And thats the reason i always said THIS KIND OF POST LEADS TO NOTHING. I said it out loud many times and no1 seems to listen to me. Mods and andmins said they are aware of this problem and im hoping they do something about it.
This kind of posts tend to be an everlasting and neverending battlefield where no one is "going to win".
Mob grinders have been here for a long time. The reason why Mojang isn't addressing this is because they don't want to tell people how to play a sandbox game. :sleep.gif:
There is no one way to play it, if you don't like it don't use it.

I meant cave exploration. I just wish there were more subterranean challenges.
^ haha, very good point.

I KILL U AFK! :tongue.gif:
Except the guy mean cave exploration as he said in his last post.
Stop nitpicking other people posts as you want to make you superior.

so you are saying people don't branch mine?
and if they do, does branch mining need to be removed?
it doesn't add to exploration and adventure... :huh.gif:

I didn't say that either, stop nitpicking posts.

i know you didn't i was making a point. :wink.gif:
i only copied 1/2 my quote by accident for that. its fixed now.

Yes, i always agreed that they do.
Jeb is looking into that at the moment.
Also, this person is brilliant. They understand the true nature of a sandbox game.

Solution: report the thread and make it delete.
There is no one way to play it, if you don't like it don't use it.
