I've finally found me a place to settle, and my two double chests are becoming crowded. I've organized them as well as I can, but I think it's time to start making a storage room.
Now, I don't want it to be automated. I'm an idiot when it comes to even basic redstone (I can make a semi-auto melon farm, and that is about it). I just want a visually pleasing storage room.
Do what i did.
Make a new building only for bulk items (cobble, dirt, gravel) where you just stack chests on top of each other and fill them, you can use all the space fully when 1.5 comes out with trapped chests (dont attach to other chests)

That's not a bad idea. It would clean up the setup I currently have in place. Thanks.
I would suggest using hoppers to at least funnel items into a collective area. No redstone needed at all.
I made a visually pleasing fountain in the middle of my first floor of my base, with 2 chests in the middle, i simply drop the items in, and the hoppers funnel them to the b1 storage room for later sorting.
I do the same for bulk items like cobble, on b1 they are funneled down until they reach the bottem of a long line of chest(like, 6 chests)
Using this is very simple, hopper ontop a chest, which is on top of a hopper, and saves space by just throwing them to the bottem of the chest piles for you!
Ill post pics when i get out of class, but other ideas include the chests next to trapped chests, as they both work the same and can be next to eachother, it saves a ton of space.
Edit-Rather than placing my pictures here where they might clog up things, Im placing them in the storage pictures thread and will link the post here when I am done.
Hey I have designed a new automated storage system which holds all items in only a few chests.. Maybe you could tell me your opinion if it has some potential

Ideas are extremely appreciated.
Hmm, that means I'd have to make the ceiling a halfslab in order to open the top chest, but those are cheap. I really like that idea.

The storage system used by Scum is particularly good IMO and I'm going to steal it.

My current storage system consists of double-chests stacked 3 high with Item Frames to show what is in each chest.

Ooo! Thank you! Most of the ideas I've saw in those two topics I love.
and then you can put item frames above each chest to show what it is
