Its been so quiet and peaceful around here, did everyone start to follow my advice and PM their arguments?
But back on topic:
The next snapshot is in a few day hopefully, not only am I excited for the new biomes and to see what else has been done but I really wanna see what Dinnerbone has done with fishing and such.

Hey, if you want to make sure I saw what you said, quote me on it.
It still has the "extreme hills" biome in it :| I hope they bring back true variation and scrap that extreme hills nonsense. There is no reason to keep it, especially as they seem to be doing a total overhaul of the biome system AND y dependent weather/vegetation anyway.
Just because extreme hills may still be in the game, (even thought they have made some changes to it) that doesn't mean they didn't add variation.

Hey, if you want to make sure I saw what you said, quote me on it.
But why would there need to be a seperate biome for extreme hills if they are found in other biomes?
Because maybe some people like it but still want hills in other biomes. Extreme hills doesn't reproduce anything close to what other people want with this 'variation' thing, if i remember correctly.

I still say add a problebilty system to mountain, with that Extremehills can still be in the game with a 90-100% chance of mountain spawning and other biomes will have different percentages with Swamps having the least chance with 5-0%, same will apply with hills, hill/mountain hieght and weather
Sence Jeb is using noise variation, mojang matter well try messing with caves and water.
Also does anyone realize that the newer biomes look more varied and realistic, while the older ones look bland and simple, which even with the return of the temp/humidity biome placements, it still look out-of-place.
Well, if the variation was random.....there would be more and less dense moutains in other biomes.
Nothing about the terrain generator has ever been random.
Having a biome specifically designed to be crazy, Scottish-highlands hilly, leaving some of the other biomes to be largely flat seems smart to me.
What might be even smarter is making a sub-biome that could be anywhere, which removed the height restrictions.
Mountains in a grasslands biome = extreme hills. I don't see how they would still be necessary.
So, you want this to be a grassland biome?
Need I post more pictures?
If variation = extremehills in grasslands what would our flatter biomes be are you sure you want mountains to be that dense with 'variation'?
Sure, I want mountains to be possible everywhere but not pasted all over the place, that can stay in extreme hills. They are already editing extremehills so I'm pretty sure they will be here to stay.
And even if we get mountains everywhere in this update, why get rid of something that a lot of people like?

Lots of peeps here like building with the terrain, instead of just on flat land. For these players the terrain is one of the major things which makes building enjoyable.
Believe me I know exactly how you feel. I just think it shouldn't be the ONLY factor of why you don't want to build anymore. For me, minecraft is only fun if you have a project to work on. If you just build a house and say "ok i will live here from now on in this game." then you basically just won the game, in the survival aspect. This was true in old minecraft as well. People that don't want to play anymore are not just being robbed of terrain to build on, they also don't know what to do with themselves on the game.

Mountians wouldn't be generated everywhere, they'd just be given thepotential to genertate in all biomes.

I know its called a plains biome but I attempted to prevent confusion with Mamrok. And I know mountains would not generate everywhere and that they had the possibility to. The "Mountains in grassland= extreme hills" was my point in that post.

Meh more biomes ...Wait a minute where flat and beautiful beaches where the overhangs with trees in top where the smooth grass translation the minecraft is dying the wolds is very ugly and dont have variety
Sure the terrain is a large part of the game but there's no way it could die because of it.
It died for me. Exploration is 75% of my Minecraft experience, I just love to wander randomly until I find a cool place where to build something inspired by the landscape so other players can find it; in SP I created literally hundred of worlds just for the pleasure of walking around taking pictures of the best looking places. I do the same in pretty much every game with a lot of land to explore, it's my thing.
This was totally screwed by beta 1.8. I don't want my money back and I understand I'm not the typical MC player but please don't tell me the game didn't die because it threw in the trash the world generator that made me buy it.

I understand that. I meant the game as a whole, for the majority of the community.
The exploration factor in the game has died for me, but I have too many other things I like messing with to keep me playing from time to time.

I want full hight variation everywhere, i.e. anything from plains to "extreme hills" in every biome. I didn't say i want mountains to be spammed everywhere. The fans of the extreme hills will have what they want in a mountainous grasslandds biome.
If you remove the height restrictions of each biome and do nothing else, mountains will be spammed everywhere. This is much closer to the 1.7 generator, but not desirable.
My proposal is that a sub-biome be applied after the other biomes are in place, which removes all biome-specific height restrictions.
I would prefert full height variation, im just not so sure we will get that, because of all the "omz we ned teh planez buyom fur beldeng larg1!1!1!"
Stop being obnoxious. People who play minecraft have a variety of opinions on what the terrain generator should do. Characterizing those who disagree with you as idiotic seems unwise, especially when
1) This is a matter of asthetics, and
2) those people seem to outnumber you by an order of magnitude.
I know you think you're helping out by making posts like these, but you're really not.

Not much to discuss quite yet until Jeb reveals more of what he has done, or we get a snapshot.
Hey everyone, I'm back!
