Many users have wanted guns in Minecraft vanilla. Other people (including myself!) call it too modern and overpowered. I now present to you, the Musket and Flintlock Rifle.
This is a hunting musket. These were used in the earlier ages, before industry. These are not as powerful as their counterpart, the Flintlock Rifle, so they are weak for fighting. Instead, these would do double damage to Sheep, Pigs, Cows, Chickens, Zombies and Skeletons. Every farm animal including zombies and skeletons, as those are fragile. The exact damage is 6 damage points, doing 12 to the above animals. (3 hearts/6 hearts)
This needs a crafting recipe and ammo. This is how to craft the hunting musket itself:
To make one, you need a flint and steel, redstone, stick and iron ingots. In total, that's 1 flint, 2 iron ingots, 1 redstone and 3 stick. As such, it's a simple item but still requires you to go deep underground for the redstone. It's ammo is Stone Bullets. (go to that section)
Flintlock Rifle
A simple rifle using the Flintlock method. This will of course, take a while to reload and shoot, but it's worth it. These were used at the same time as the above gun. (I think) They are more powerful than an arrow, but bows are much faster and arrows are cheaper.
How to craft the Flintlock Rifle:
This uses another Flint and Steel, another piece of redstone, a piece of leather, a stick and two iron ingots. This is basically a fighting counterpart of the Hunting Musket. This uses Stone Bullets too and does 8 damage points. (4 hearts)
Stone Bullets (Gun ammunition)
Stone bullets are the main ammunition for both guns. They work like a Fire Charge, but are simply burning pieces of stone. It shoots in a nearly straight line until it exceeds 30 blocks of travel, where it slowly falls over until it burns up and disappears. If it hits a block, it will generate fire on the block. If you are wondering how this isn't overpowered as I said:
Accidental Shooting
- If you accidentally fire with a bow, the arrow can be taken back. Stone bullets will set fire to your wooden houses and you'll lose ammo.
Power
- To balance out the above, stone bullets from a Flintlock Rifle will do a bit more damage, but arrows are reloaded instantly. Guns will take 30 seconds to reload.
Since the stone bullet recipe is simple, it's just gunpowder on top of Smooth Stone. This produces 2 Stone Bullets.
1 vs. 1 - Flintlock Rifle to Bow and Arrows
So many people disagree with guns, I needed to make sure this idea would be given a chance.
I've made a scenario where I'm fighting my evil brother. He has the Bow and Arrows, I have the Flintlock Rifle.
So we start the battle. I shoot my brother and he isn't fast enough for the bullet. He takes some fire damage, but shrugs it off while shooting me with 2 arrows. I still haven't reloaded, but he's shot 7 more arrows already. Suddenly, I realize I'm not healing; I'm already hungry! I start sprinting around to avoid his arrow storm and shoot once again. He is down to 1/4 health and I'm stuck to starve at half health. Who wins? I believe it depends on skill. :wink.gif:
Some Extra Details
Hunting Muskets are really for hunting, hence the name.
Flintlock Rifles are good in combat and close to the Bow
Both guns have a small spread of 2 or 3 blocks
Bullets are much faster with a shorter range and will have penalty to mis-clicking.
Please post your opinions. Give some feedback, that's truly what I need! Thanks for reading my idea! :smile.gif:

I want this in Vanilla Minecraft. This would make the game more interesting without turning Steve into a mass killer and deadly griefer. (is there a difference between burning down a house from up close to far away?)

Please read the thread! I also had an interesting idea to add:
Redstone Repeaters to add Multishot
If a redstone repeater is in the grid with either gun, it will give the gun an enchantment-like effect and they obtain the ability to shoot 3 bullets at once, in a wider spread. :wink.gif:

- Dude, nobody's going to hoard over your thread 24/7. Just be patient.
- I'm really sort of tired of the same gun idea over and over using a crafting table to make a musket, and the recipe for making the muskets be incredibly easy. Do you know how hard it is to hand-make something like a musket? This means forging out every single part; the barrel, the breech, lock, carving out the stock, etc. I'd much rather see a form of musket construction that makes you put all the pieces together. Or perhaps an advanced way of metalworking that allows you to forge items such as this.

Alright. Read your post and even the rest of the thread. I'm going to flame you now.
This is no different than reskinning a bow in application. To introduce a new game element, please make it unique as its identity is marred with redundant usage from an easier crafted, maintained and questionably more powerful entity.
This is among a VAST multitude of OTHER reasons to deny your suggestion.
If you knew anything about me. You'd know I'm not part of the 99.2% on point.
Here's one point. You can't effectively balance them. He proposed a 30 sec cd on one of the weapons this is 30 seconds of useless should you miss.
Here's another:if they were balanced' their usefulness over bow is suject to scrutiny. They won't be considered upgrades and therefore; their practical usage will be limited.
Now if you wouldn't mind, could you provide counterpoints without lumping me in with a crowd?
I will agree with Yoshi here on that point. These guns are overpowered. here are my reasons:
- Setting things on fire. Ranged griefing much?
- 8 damage on the fighting rifle, 12 damage on animals, zombies, and skeletons with the hunting rifle. Why would I want to spend the diamonds on a sword now?
- Fully renewable bullets: The gunpowder comes from Creepers. Stone can come from a cobble generator, and then smelted. Coal can be replaced with Charcoal. Build a mob trap, tree farm and stone refinery and you have infinite ammo. Don't say "just use iron instead," zombies will drop iron stuff soon, even ingots.
While I'm all for more ranged weapons, this implementation is overpowered and breaks Minecraft's progress line.
Sorry, I don't support this.

While I do like the idea of some sort of old fire arm, I only think one is needed. I happen to prefer the flintlock.
With regards to reloading, I would still have two new items, Loaded and empty. You would load the gun by crafting it with and . You would then get one shot. This would differentiate it from the bow as well as require skill to get off more than a few shots, or the creation of multiple guns. I don't think iron ingots would be to expensive if they were one shot kills.
The sound of a gun firing should alert all hostile mobs withing 30 blocks of your presence, immediately putting them in tracing mode.
1) you're an idiot.
2) use your brain to connect dots before dismissing things that fall outside your field of expertise/preference. I don't know how I could've made those points clearer. Bear in mind that I am typing using a cellphone and I can't afford the luxury of redundant speech. Everything is as consice as I can get it.

No need to insult people bud.
This idea as a starter could be used, but several changes would need to be made, such as, not setting things on fire, maybe faster reload rate but less damage, and could be a instant hit, like a real bullet, travels the distance extremely quick. Id be good with the idea if it wasnt as op.
I call 'em as I see's 'em. If he acts like mouthbreathing trailerpark spawn #12 of 16, I mark him as such.
Since I am at a computer, I will elaborate in a bit more detail.
#1
For starters, is an obvious one. If you have a weapon set on a 30 sec cool down, it is far from a weapon and would be more aptly considered a paperweight and get in the way.
You get attacked by 5 enemies, you pull out your trusty rifle and blow one away. YAY! Awesome... BUT, what about the other 4? If the rifle is the only weapon you're carrying, you're screwed, better off weaponless for the next 28 seconds of running away.
#2
If it's balanced, then there's no real reason to have it over a bow. As is, a 30 second recharge is definitely worse off than a bow.
A counter is to carry around multiple rifles, which is a good point, but why should you need to carry around 5 or 6 rifles for the same effect as a single bow? See the point?
This idea could be better than a bow, say if the bullet was almost instantly hitting the target, such as arrows take a little bit of time to reach the target. I dont wanna compare it to another gun, but think a sniper rifle, long range instant death. No arc, almost instant hitting him, a slight bit more damage than a arrow, but reload time would be ok, it would have to be costly to build tho.

Instant damage with a small recharge with instant transmission of payload is a bad idea as it upsets pvp and allows undetectable ranged killing in pvp servers.
Even with that said, why would someone want to have it over a bow which ISN'T costly and only provides a meager amount less damage.
I am under the assumption that the damage and reload would be marginally greater than the damage and draw of a bow and arrow.
If a figurative (since I don't feel like researching atm) takes 2.5 secs to draw and deals 3 damage on a full charge;
why would I wish to waste my resources on a gun that takes 3 secs to cd and deals 4 damage? Bows shoot a plenty long distance with added height, and the rate of travel is such that, while noticeable, the transmission of payload is short enough that it may as well be instant as players cannot dodge it.
Also, initial cost of construction does not account for the potential saving of resources through the life of the instrument. Even if it costs more upfront, there is no upkeep on it, bullets only need be manufactured, and as I read, easily.
If the cost of construction was set to ~6 iron ingots, it would be quickly offset by the cheap cost of bullets making it eventually cheaper than a bow.
The counter is to limit its durability, but that is to be defined in playtesting and is not a satisfactory argument here.
Finally, without doing a mod at all, it is possible to customize your minecraft experience; make a custom texture pack which retextures the bows to guns, arrows to bullets (shot), and arrow sound to gunfire.
Outside of the whole charge thing, it would not be discernably different.

No, I'm actually FOR a logical and balanced approach. This idea is very much well intentioned and I love the heart he put into it; but I don't think that it would be a good fit for minecraft; excusing, of course, it's controversial nature.
The problem is also that it is "too op"; but more impossible to balance satisfactorily to the varied masses of people. Some would think it's too weak, others too strong.
Also, when you get to my level of infamy, there is never "Nuff said", people will double and triple read my words trying to bust my chops and prove I'm not perfect "never said I was", and I have to go at length to cover my ass and discourage any miscommunication of my points.
Keep in mind that it doesn't stop sheepish strawmanning (putting words in my mouth to set up an argument); but I can only try my best.
Regardless, this is an active debate; my points are encouraging debate; "too op" effectively closes it with a simple minded and thoughtless gesture without respect to OP.
Please keep on topic instead of turning this into a battle over why I feel the way I do. That's not important, arguing why my points are invalid or are "trivial compared to the net gain" is important.
This is what's sought in an effective debate, not pigeonholing your opponent before ignoring them.
