Okay, so imagine we're starting a new world. We spawn, look around, get our surroundings. We probably go looking for a tree first, for wooden tools. We get our tools, start a small home for the night, and we're already moving into the stone tier. By the time we hit the stone tier, we probably have found an iron ore deposit already, meaning we've moved up 3/4 tiers within our first night. To me, this makes the game shorter and faster to get bored of. Now I know this suggestion has been said over 100 times before, but I'm giving it a reason to happen. We can get iron so fast that by day 2 we might be already looking for diamond, the best material in the game. Once you get diamond, the next thing to do is get more of it and probably make your house an MTV crib. I just really want something else to look for in the game. Forumers: Well there's mods for that, go get those. Me: Yeah well all people put in are ores that never get any texture pack support. I really hope we can get new ores in the game by 1.10 or 1.11, or maybe the full release. Either way, the fact we can advance through all the tiers really fast is kinda dumb. On a final note, the ores are rare enough, we just need a better variety.
Possible New Ores
Amazonite - Rarity: a 2, where diamond is 1 and redstone is 3 - Strength - Triple of iron but less than diamond - Dark Blue Thinking of more...

This thread is meant to suggest actual game updates and not some mod (unless specified)
I agree completely with you. I think that iron should be harder to find, which would be the first step in making your suggestion happen. Or it should be harder to piece together the tools. Someone would have a better idea than that I'm sure.
But I do agree armor and weapon types come too easily.
I see where your getting at, but I disagree. I think we have enough already, and some texture packs have support for mods already. Vattic's Faithful Textures has support for a lot of mods. It also seems like you're just suggestion iron to be more rare.

Yeah I know, but everyone wants to said "There is a mod for that" so I'm just clearing that up. And no, iron shouldn't be harder to find. It's fine as it is with rarity. It takes a while to find enough for full armor, so if it gets a nerf it really...I don't know how they do the rarity values so I'll just say that it shouldn't change the rarity by much. Assume it's rarity is a 5 (20 being dirt and 1 being diamond) it should only go to something like a 4.5. Don't take my example specifically, there's no reason to really think it out.
I don't know if this would really help anything. Right now, you need wood to get stone, stone to get iron, and iron to get diamonds. Adding more tiers in between would do nothing more than add tediousness to the game. (If overdone)Let's say that we make a tier between iron and stone. Well, considering how common iron is, this new ore would have to be even more common. So unless you could add a billion uses to it, we would end up with a crap ton of it in our chests. And if we added, say, three more tiers between iron and diamond, it would just get to the point where it would be stupid. Either you would be in a position where you would find one of the later ores first, and then search for the previous tiers to continue, or you would find them in order and would go through the process of mining a little, craft a pick, mine a little, craft a pick out of next tier, ect. And considering how there is no minable material stronger than obsidean, there would really be no point in having tiers stronger than diamond unless you wanted near infinite tools that mined everything in a second, negated all damage when armor, and killed everything in one hit.
So while new ores could add to the game, unless if you have some good and original uses for them, they would be pretty pointless. Adding more things like strongholds, or even boss monsters to find and slay, and various other things that you can do after getting all your diamond and going to Nether and what not would add more to the game, in my opinion.

Taking trolling to a whole new level, one post at a time.
Gold needs to properly be the tier after iron and before diamond instead of some **** tier weapon with the strength of diamond and the durability of wood, and we need more materials.
Because if you think of the strength of real world materials, gold to diamond is a pretty big jump.
I say we need 2 more materials to make armour and tools out of.
FIRST TIER: Wood
SECOND TIER: Stone
THIRD TIER: Copper(will be as durable and strong as iron, and its ore will require no smelting, you just put a copper ore onto the crafting grid and it changes to copper ingot)
FOURTH TIER: Iron (stronger than copper but weaker than diamond/gold, strength and durability ratio won't be imbalanced)
FIFTH TIER: Gold (but with the strength and durability ratio the same) stronger than iron, weaker than diamond
SIXTH TIER: Diamond (nothing changed, stronger than gold and weaker than obsidian)
SEVENTH TIER: Obsidian (obsidian tools and obsidian armour. Will be dark purple. Mining obsidian quickly and killing monsters with one hit would be GREAT.)
Perhaps some new special ores for other purposes as well:
Emerald ore (broken up copper ore style with crafting grid into emerald crystals, which are used to craft potions that will heal hearts but not hunger)

you should probally replace the gold with steel or something cause gold is a soft material =)

Steel and iron are very similiar though (flint and steel is even called flint and steel even though its crafted with flint and iron) and I don't want Minecraft to turn into a game with things way too similiar to eachother :tongue.gif:

Im with you, but except for the Obsidian idea. Obsidian is to rare. Plus, its ugly. Bleh
obsidian maybe bedrock NO, meaning that you have to DESTROY bedrock. Reason why its there.

Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

1 thing i would like to see added would be a tier between iron and diamonds seeing as there is a huge gap and obsidean tools =smp over powered? think about it, spend 30 seconds mining the obsidean and then 1 hit kill people who arnt ready (no armour) but thats imo

dub ik but ore/gem ideas: flint, steel, emerald sapphire and ruby, platinum (notch talked about this ore but no hint of adding) and tin/copper for making the steel but cant be made into actual tools themself

if obsidian is volcanic rock then it should be brittle and when mined instead of being 15secs to mine should be 10secs. also the drop should be shards of of obsidian 2-4 like flint and it can be used as tools and arrows but not armour because volcanic armour is just stupid. and the new ghast tears they are adding or ender pearls, you should be able to put them on a craft table with your tool and it will be repaired or glows light or knocks off another %20 of time it takes to mine one block. the powerup could last forever although that would be no fun.
i think what you guys are looking for is variety not new ores. i download yogbox with the mithrel and green ****, and to be honest it was a burden to see some ore and feel as though you had to mine it and it would fill up you invintory and i would always throw out stuff i still wanted to make room for an ore alittle better then stone

Someone once asked me why don't you crawl into a black hole and die!? I said spread your legs *****!
If all that was done was obsidian added above diamond, I would be happy.
As a casual player, finding enough diamond for a full set only to lose it on death is worthy of tears... well, almost.
So, I instead stick to iron armor and tools, though my picks tend to more often be stone then iron... and my armor more often leather or gone...
But, if I could use obsidian then suddenly making diamond picks with the few I find would be high priority... and a gate to the nether for a supply of lava would be worth it.
Would the dynamic of the game change? Yes.
Would it ruin the game? I don't think so, if anything it would make it more interesting.
Also, I think obsidian looks good and currently use it for 'modern art' scupltures.
It's a little fun to make them as I make them on the spot from lava, rather then collecting obsidian to place.

Not only is it kind of rare but it's weaker than wood. Completely useless.

Obsidian is beautiful, and its easy to make. :ohmy.gif: How dare you. xD
But I think it would be too similar to gold, except much more common.
Anyways, I agree with the main point of this thread. I just don't know how it could possibly be improved.
