Hello, everyone! Koumus here, and today I’ll teach you how to build an automatic farm of pumpkins and melons.
I built this on MC Xbox Edition, but it works on the PC too.
Just follow these quick steps and if you have any doubts, feel free to ask me.
STEP 1 – First of, make two lines of eight pistons each and leave a distance of two squares in the middle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2 – Now, close one of the sides with dirt and put two buckets of water to form a water stream. Note that he stream should not surpass the pistons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 3 – Put dirt blocks all around the pistons. The front area should stay open.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 4 – Add one block of dirt above those dirt blocks around the pistons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 5 – Now add some dirt over the pistons too.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 6 – We are gonna use regular pistons now. Place them in the exact same position as in the picture, and remember they must be two blocks over those dirt blocks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 7 – Add a line of dirt blocks over the regular pistons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 8 – Now use the hoe and you can plow the earth right under the regular pistons. That’s where you’ll plant pumpkins/melons. For this tutorial, I planted melons in the left and pumpkins in the right side.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 9 – Build a wall of dirt in the back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 10 – Let’s go up there.
Put some redstone and repeaters as in the picture, those will turn on/off the regular pistons.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 11 – Now go to the back of that dirt wall you built before.
That’s how it looks like so far:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 12 – Make two pillars of two blocks each in the middle of that wall, they must be 1 block taller than the wall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 13 – Go to the top of the pillars and break the top right side of them and add one redstone torch, just like the picture:
Bring all that redstone circuit from the regular pistons to the redstone torch.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 14 – Go to the back of the dirt wall again and, just like the picture, break the blocks and put the redstone torches in the same fashion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 15 – Break two more blocks under the ground level and continue the redstone torch system.
If all torches are on/off exactly as the picture, then you are doing everything right.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 16 – Just behind that last torch down there, put two repeaters, facing the dirt block where the torch is. Set the repeaters to delay 3. If you want to know in which direction they must be, take a look at STEP 17.
Make a redstone circuit from the repeaters and bring it to the fron of the system. Note that the redsctone circuit must be at least 4 blocks away from that side wall.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 17 – Another picture of the redstone circuit. Again, note that the redsctone circuit must be at least 4 blocks away from that side wall. As you see, there’s a repeater in the middle, put it there or the circuit will not work. Set it to level 3 too.
Those two repeaters that are facing the dirt block must be in the same direction as this one, in case you haven’t noticed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 18 – The last picture of the same redstone circuit. Take it to the front and put a lever 1 block above the last redstone. This is where you’ll turn the system on/off.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 19 – So far, so good. Close this area with dirt and now let’s continue with the work.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 20 – Let’s dig again in this area. Dig 3 blocks below where the plants are, and clean this area within 3 blocks of distance from the wall.
If you can see the sticky pistons like in the picture, it’s fine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 21 – Now in the right corner, dig a small hole, 2 blocks high, 1 block width, and go 3 blocks forward.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 22 – Go inside this small hole and to your left (the direction where the system is), dig another hole, 2 blocks high and 2 blocks width. This time go 8 blocks forward.
It will look like the picture. Those torches are not required.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 23 – Add redstone torches on the top left side of the wall like the picture. If you want you can add redstone torches on both sides, since you’ll use that other side later.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 24 – Now you can go out of this small cave and if you want, close it with dirt.
Break one block right below the sticky pistons and add redstone torches on this wall, like in the picture.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 25 – Now, this picture shows how those redstone torches (the ones inside the cave and the ones below the sticky pistons) look like. Note the ones below the sticky pistons are off and the ones in the cave are on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 26 – Put repeaters and redstone in front of those dirt blocks facing the redstone torches.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 27 – Connect all the redstone and the repeaters and bring this circuit to the main circuit, the one connected to the lever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PASSO 28 – Done! It’s finished.
As for the other side, go back to STEP 20 and do it all again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 29 – After you finished both sides, let’s test this automatic farm.
It works in 3 steps.
First Step: Turning the system on.
Second Step: Harvesting.
And… Third Step: The water stream takes care of this step.
Well I hope you like it guys, it took me a couple of hours to make this tutorial, take all pictures, build the system, etc…

Thanks for your time, ‘till next time!
Yes, Pumpkins and Mellons regrow all the time, just follow the tuto and it's fine. Sorry for the late answer, but haven't checked this post in a while.
I've been building mine with the sticky pistons dropping the dirt from under the melon/pumpkin and then smashing it with a regular piston from the top. I have a lot of "waste", but it works. I'll be using this method in the future though. Thanks for taking the time to put up pictures and a good step-by-step.

Hmm, that's actually very clever, your tutorial sounds interesting.

I love illustrated written instead of videos. (What is the point of videos that you have to read.)
I think I found a way to use a little less redstone. Take step 26 and have those repeaters feed directly into the pistons. I also seem to only need 4 ticks between the bottom powerline and the top powerline.
Now I'm trying to make one fully-automatic pumpkin crusher to act as a timer for the whole farm.
I downloaded a PC world to my Xbox using OpryzeLP's program and there was this melon block that was actually automatic, when it grew, it broke and replanted itself. Don't know if it was a glitch or what.
So I've been playing minecraft for only about 4 months or so. I started playing on the Fantasia server and I wanted a cheap pumpkin farm that looked good. I've been looking for about a month until I found this one! I'm so excited. I modified the design slightly, simplified it, and have run some tests and am so excited about this design. Thank you so so much.
Thank you also for the idea of picture tutorials. I've been thinking about doing some tutorials but don't want to invest in software yet, but this is such a cool way of doing it!

Oh thanks a lot
I like tutorials with pics too, but that's my only option cause I don't have a capture card :/
Totally agreed, I think the same. Screenshots give you a better idea on how to build stuff
Thanks for the feedback!
now do these re grow each time over and over

Yes they will, thought its not 100% automatic.
Here is my 100% Automatic farm.
Nice video! The basics are quite the same, and it is good to see it working on a video

SasquatchSlayer, a Youtuber who does MC Let's Play videos, recorded this tutorial in a short, nice video.
You can watch the video below. And of course, subscribe to his channel! There are plenty of other good videos that you can watch!
Hey, thanks a lot!
I'm really glad that you like it
