It was working fine for me before, but this morning I had the ''play offline'' option, so I logged out to reenter my info and get it back to ''online'' as I usually do when this happens, except now it won't let me sign back in. ''Sorry but we couldn't connect you to our servers blabla...'' error pops up. The only thing I have changed is I redownloaded a ressource pack and replaced it in the ressource pack, which I don't think should matter. I tried adding minecraft to the allowed programs in my firewall (again, it was working fine before today and I never needed to do that), but it still did not fix my issue.
Edit: I do have the new launcher and my game is up to date, has been since the new launcher has been out. Tried redownloading the launcher, just in case, and running it in administrator mode, and still did not work.
SOLUTION: I just fixed the problem. Just delete your java thats on your computer and redownload/install it again. thats how I literaly just now less than a minute ago from this post that I'm posting fixed it.ok now when I try to play a server it says Fail: login error. I can't win for losing
What worked for me is just installing (Or Re-installing) the latest Java. [REMINDER: This is only guaranteed to work for Windows 7-8 users!]
Here's the link: http://java.com/en/download/win8.jsp
I have the same problem. I tried reinstalling java, reinstalling minecraft (deleting .minecraft folder). I am sure my password and loginname are correct. On other computers I can just log in normally, but on this computer I can't.
i wouldn't worry about it. if you have windows, i would definitely recommend uninstalling and re-installing java 32 bit and 64 bit. if that does not work, i would run maintenance on your computer because there may be some software that is conflicting with java (which was the case for me. my computer needed c++ direct x 11 2010 redist. i know that it has nothing to do with java, but my mc actually worked after installing the update from the maintenance center in windows. so weird.). the last recommendation is that if all else fails, don't just uninstall the java 32 or 64 bit versions (which should be java 7 runtime edition update 2 or higher); uninstall the registry file javasoft.
To uninstall java from your registry, click on the search text area in the start menu and look up regedit. when it asks you if you want to open the program, click yes. on the left side there are a bunch of folders. look for the software folder and look for javasoft. delete that file and re-install your java 7 version (both 32 and 64). because you uninstalled the 64 bit version, it is required to reinstall because javasoft only re-installs thru the 64 bit version.
Because the minecraft launcher version is the issue, i found that before i ran maintenance on my computer, i could run the launcher and minecraft, but i had to delete java 64 bit (which means no far render distance and far render distance isn't needed to play most of the time in multiplayer anyway due to chunk updates and server-side lag). If all of this fails, then i have run out of solutions for this post. I worked on the issue for 3 days and the maintenance on the computer fully fixed the issue. You may have to wait for a new launcher version to come out. That is unfortunate, but remember, if all else fails, just delete the java 7 64 bit version and you will be able to play.
while i am not a technician or web genius type, i believe the issue is with java 7 update 25 64 bit version. if you have to scale back to j7u24 or j7u23, i know that the launcher worked fine with those versions of java 7. thanks for reading and i hope this has been insightful and fixes the problem.

I would love a fix.. Thanks in advance
I fixed it!
To you and everyone else, how I did it.
Simply 'restart' the internetconnection for your computer: Disconnect your internet, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect to your network. Worked for me!
