I have CS2, is it good enough make effects like this?
Oh yes it should be possible with any version of photoshop, because all you need for this picture is a Magic Wand, a Lens Flare, and Contrast/Brightness adjuster
It's really all up to one's preferences. Some people might prefer Minecraft screenshots as it is in the game, but sightly enhanced with filters. Some want more realistic pictures so they might use blurs for DOF effects. As for some, they are complete Minecraft realism addicts (I'm one of them) who go to the extreme and enhance every possible detail to make them look real, from lighting, to skies, and to shadows. If i were to put myself into your shoes, i might say that your screenshots are really well done. Nice angles, interesting settings, subjects etc. Good use of blurs in the forest picture, and great idea using the "render clouds" option as a kind of fog (I think that was how you did it, if not please correct me :D)But if I were to maintain my "hardcore" self, it would edit them like this:
Picture 1) I would suggest adjusting the contrast of the entire image, and then have a fair weather sky in the background. After that, going according to the direction where the light is shining from, you could brighten and darken certain areas, and make it look as though as there are real shadows in the picture. as a finishing touch, you could also blur the foreground and the background to bring out the subject (in this picture, the tree and the plains) The resulting effect would be something like a meadowy area.
Picture 2) The setting is possibly a tall structure in the sky, and the time at which the picture was take is at night. Since it's dark, an interesting prospect would be to brighten up the entire image, and place lighting emphasis on areas that are more brightly lit up (like the part with the glow stone or the stairs at the top left) Then, you might want to create a emphasis on the focused subject, which in this case, might be the Nether portal. You could brighten up the portal area, and add a somewhat mystical twist to it by adding some purple light rays coming our from the nether portal. This would create an eerie/mystical feel
Picture 3) We have a picture of a forest. lighting seems to be coming from the background. So a possible thing to do would be to adjust the brightness of the image, and then judging roughly from where the light will be shining, manually create some rays coming through the foliage. The effect would be something of what is offered from SEUS shaders mod, but not as detailed as that.
It;s done for a project of a friend of mine. check out the first page for the details
Good job on the screenshot! It worked quite nicely.
Thanks guys!
