If you look in MapGenCaves.java there is a function called generateLargeCaveNode, which just feeds the other function some larger numbers.
The dungeon generation code is all contained within WorldGenDungeons.java its simple in theory, just messy code.
Simply put it runs checks to prevent it generating dungeons above ground, or in water/lava, then builds the walls and random cobble/mossy cobble floor, finally it adds a random spawner.
One day I was bored and set the y coord in the dungeon generation to 64 or something, and disabled it sky check code. Was funny to see the end result.
Personally I think the code used to generate Abandoned Mineshafts and Strongholds is more suitable if you want to make a multiroom dungeon with randomly made components, rather than the box o' cobble Mojang built.

Another thing I noticed was a stalagmite who's base was the bright magic pink color, although not sure if that could have been brought on by one of my other 20ish mods. I simply made the entire spritesheet background transparent, has fixed similar things in the past for me.

About the pink texture, that's weird on my side all the stalactites seem to have the correct texture, I'll recheck the code nonetheless
I always wanted more cave features like this. Kind of wish the stalagmites and stalactites were more like the TFC ones but I realise that would be tricky. Nice work!
how are TFC's stalactites? i couldn't find any pictures of them, if they're 3D blocks, many people have requested that and i might add something like that for large caves or ravines.
Golly, I've been wanting to try out a version of Wild Caves since the first one, but I'm so glad I got this one working. The ExtraBiomesXL support works great and ice caves are both gorgeous and hazardous, I've found so many flooded lava chambers as well as watched my items slide by on the ice.
The glowing mushrooms and stalactites just make everything look awesome.
glad you liked it, i do like the new mechanics that the new caves add, makes things more interesting, i made a mystcraft cave worlds and the mushrooms made it look kinda magical, I'll upload a screenshot later.
Sorry about the ExtrabiomesXL incompatibility, because I made a mistake, not you. Your mod is awesome and it is compatible with ExtrabiomesXL. I'm waiting for the 1.4.5 version.

hum, the only thing i can think of, based on where the error is occurring, is that the id it gets is way too low, did you change the ids? if so try changing them to something higher

I got Modloader and Forge, but nothing seems to be happening. I dropped the zip into the mods folder in my minecraft folder but nothing is happening.
Tried to install modloader and forge again and now for some reason I can't name files ;A;

Really nice! Caves are pretty boring at the moment, and this is a nice fix for that. One thing that would be nice is to have the caves naturally "expand" over time, up to a point, so they don't consume the world.
Wonderful mod that adds some much needed life to minecraft caves beyond monsters. I hope you do add more different colored mushrooms to spice the underground up even more
Two issues I noticed with the mod beyond what has already been stated: mushrooms will somethings spawn in the air if there is flowing water and the glowstone dust to glowstone block recipe seems to be broken by this mod.

Make the Stalactites, stalagmites and the Icicles able to grow or something. :3 Of course, uber slow or something, but it would be nice to place a Stalactite on the roof of my man-made cave and come back later to see if has grow down or a Stalagmite had from under it. :3 And same for the icicles, would be nice for my Icy Lair. :3 Oh, and Stalagmite Icicles too! I have only seen hanging Icicles, but in real life, they can from just like Stalactites/Stalagmite if the conditions are meet.

You seem to be running alot of 1.2.5 mods like DynamicElevators and such... o.o
dynamic elevators has been updated to 1.4.5, all the mods i use are up to date, else wouldnt it crash? well my minecraft works fine until i add the wildcaves mod

Also, how did you install the mod(s)? Did you make sure you are using the right versions and such?
well i just follow the installation instructions, but if they dont go in the mods folder, i install things through the magic launcher
