2. You're right, GregTech isn't hard. And that's not what I'm getting at. It's the tedium. There's nothing hard or particularly challenging about spending 2 more hours in the mines, nor is there anything particularly hard or challenging about crafting items using the needlessly elaborate recipes. But it is tedious.
5. I've used the FTB Launcher, and I found the Technic Launcher to work better overall. The FTB launcher interface was needlessly confusing the first time I used it (And I assure you, I'm not tech illiterate), and half the modpacks were not even playable. When I went to their forums to ask, they said "Well duh, obviously those modpacks are deprecated". If they're deprecated, then why leave them there?
6. That wasn't his point, either.
Anyhow, I don't even really play the modpacks of either launcher anymore (Apart from Hexxit). I tend to make my own personal modpacks. As for pushing out updates to my packs so my friends can play them too, the Technic platform does that perfectly.
2. If you think gregtech is hard, just wait till the ultra hard pack. That'll be ten times harder (hopefully).
But anyway, there isn't much to do in vanilla ic2. What's their to aim for? A filled MFSU, Quantum armor, a reactor and electric tools, and maybe a mass fab. Pretty easy to get IMO.
In gregtech, there's way more things to aim for. Quantum chest, charge-o-mat, chemical reactor, computer cube, industrial centrifuge/electrolyzer, sonictron, all the automatic machines, AESU, IESU, dragon egg energy thingy, magic energy absorber/converter, light helmet, rock cutter, tesla staff are all awesome things to actually aim for.
If you want a modpack that makes it so you have to do practically nothing to get stuff, I highly recommend big dig. I heard it's very easy, which makes it boring after a day of playing.
Like I say, greg isn't going to let you get machines from a few materials that are seriously common and easy to get. He's going to make you have to actually work for it.
5. What's there to be confused about? I found it pretty self explanatory, and if you find logging in and clicking the launch button "confusing" then you, no offense, shouldn't being using a computer at all. A lot of modpacks are still used, no mater how old, by players like me who don't want to play without redpower because, for me at least, it's one of the mods they've focusing on.
Believe it or not, you can download public third packs (nicknamed "private public") from the launcher, by entering the code in the private packs part of the launcher. The only twist is you have to actually have permission and proof of permissions to upload a pack. I suppose that would suck for some technic users who got used to redistributing without permission, but that's how it should be, IMO.
Edit: I forgot to say, if you really hate gregtech for whatever reason it was, there is the Unleashed or Direwolf20 packs. They don't have GT.
I like FTB but i think that the FTB-Tekkit war is ridiculous, after all, the modpack dev's aren't against each other and don't want to like, ne rivals or anything.
Plus, its not like a stock market or anything, its just third-party modification packs for a video game.

My thoughts exactly. This is a forum for MOD DISCUSSION, not all-out war!
Tekkit is just a modpack similar to Feed The Beast, but it has less stuff and optifine in it making FTB very, very, slow if you don't have an amazing computer.

Actually, that's true, too. I always have to strip my FTB modpacks to the mods essential to gameplay, or else I get something crazy like 8 frames per MINUTE!

I cannot stress how much I agree with you. If you don't like a modpack, then don't play it.

A page or two back someone stated that they don't ever hear of anyone going from Technic to FtB, and then back to Technic. I just wanted to say that I for one did exactly that. I initially used Technic because FtB didn't exist. The packs worked, and were generally stable.
Then came the lameness of Forestry deciding to blow up people's worlds, just because they used a pack instead of manually and tediously putting together a pack and maintaining it. I'd actually thought it was Technic's fault, and bought into the hype at the time, and went to FtB. Well, that didn't work out too well. My players wanted certain mods, I wanted other mods, and since FtB still doesn't have a freely usable package distribution, I switched to using MultiMC.
Unfortunately players aren't administrators, nor are all of them even relatively computer savvy at all. Maintaining the modpack was taking so much time that I never actually got to play the game myself. So I ended up going to a model of "learn to update a mod or get over it" and ended up with just a few players that had some working knowledge of how a computer filesystem works, and that knew how to read a crashlog and resolve issues themselves.
Then one of my friends (a mod developer) had me look at Technic again. It actually has a publicly available, easy to use modpack distribution system. I could actually keep the pack updated, and still play the game instead of help people to get theirs running, for once. So I switched back to Technic, and haven't looked back. Administrators' best friend. And screw all the FtB<!=>Technic crap. I don't give a rats' *** about that. I - like most others - just want to be able to have my cake, and eat it too... even if cake is a lie.
Side-note: GT almost stayed in my pack, but the dude pulled a dumb stunt. Just cause of a path, it blew up even when I was using FtB (I kept the directory structure so the path still had "technic" in it). I found the stupid BS code and modified it to run with the pack (without having to change the path and rewrite tons of scripts) for a while, but got tired of having to mess with it. So now we play GT-free, and soon IC2-free considering no public 'stable' release in ages. And when they get that part right, they break the API (yet again) so other mods throw garbage all over.
FTB pushes "balance" changes on mods and is the reason redstone engines are going to be nerfed into the ground next patch and has at least once said that mod makers would have to pay to get their mods in, before quickly saying "It was a joke" when this reached the expected level of drama
Tekkit lets mod makers have free reign with whatever they want to do
FTB makes money, yet the only person who's seen a cent of it is Slowpoke
Tekkit is non-profit and the day they added their donation button to give to mods ended up giving mod makers more donations than they'd ever received in the past
FTB refuses to add Minefactory Reloaded because it'll make other mods look bad. Their words, not mine
Tekkit refuses to add Gregtech because they don't want to deal with Greg's massive ego and prefer playing for fun rather than tedium
FTB is supposed to be centered around a map. When did the last one of those come out?
Tekkit launched the entire modpack craze
Tekkit is the clear winner
Have you seen the new 1.5 packs they have mfr and the ftb packs used to be centered around a map but not anymore and how would you know who gets the profits from ftb
Tekkit: No or little to no permission but came before ftb
FTB: Most or all permission
Actually, the Technic platform is now clean in terms of permissions, at least when you look at the official packs like Technic, Tekkit, Tekkit Classic, etc. Some public-made packs (some packs are made by the general public, and are just uploaded to the site and added to the launcher) do have some mods which they didn't get permissions for.

Ok, now an opinion of someone who has read the whole thread before posting his fanboy answer in two short lines.
In my case I have been playing Tekkit (a lot) and tried a little bit of hexxit.
Tekkit in my opinion is nice. At first I erased mods due to the overwhelming ammount of stuff for someone not used to heavily modded environments. Afterwards I got used to it and I learn to use everything after sometime. In this way, the learn of trial and error was quite rewarding, specially with applied energeticist storage and crafting system. Balanced? Difficult? Depends on your playstyle or your aims to multiplayer. With modular powersuits you are pretty OP but galactic craft gives a lot of multiplayer playability and some more challenges if you are willing to play them (otherwise you can use dimensional doors).
About the IC2 issue, I was on the same spot until I learnt about thermal expansion and the other mods which actually take over its functionalities perfectly (you only need to get used to the recipes and some different approaches). You maybe can't do exactly everything but you have other ton of mods to do similar stuff with different approaches.
Then for example Hexxit is more convenient for the hardcore players. About the rest of the mod packs, I didn't cared because of old versioned mods and some others mod features in which I am not interested (like ICBM or other previously energy systems).
Then FTB I don't have experience. I am watching one youtube series of agrarian skies which point out to be quite entertaining. About the rest of the mod packs of FTB, It seemed to be that there are a lot of mods overlapping in functionalities (and by overlapping I mean doing almost or exactly the same, and I may be wrong about that, this is what I could see from the wiki). It may be bad in terms of information overwhelming but it may be good in order to join people doing the same with different prefered packs to do so.
Up to that, my experience is that people usually tend to stick to the stuff known and spit over the Uknown mod packs that would require a new ton of hours learning/mastering. Me I may try FTB these days, just to catch the feeling, but I am not forgetting about tekkit neither (and I believe I would try again hexxit).
BTW, Yuni, your avatar is familiar to me. It may be from the starbound forum? xd
As someone who hasn't played Minecraft for a long time, I really only know tekkit. The fact that there is now a "classic" version was mind-blowing enough to me. I've been playing the "new" version and am quite enjoying computercraft, thermal expansion, and other things that must be obvious to you all by now.
I was expecting some actual differences or good opinions but this thread is terrible. Seriously, grow up. (Especially the people bringing up permission/legality. You probably don't even know how it was back then.) You should all be very, very ashamed of yourselves.
Before you post in this thread, just remember that it's full of garbage and currently ranks quite high on google. Maybe we can have some actual, relevant opinions on the difference between ftb and tekkit for people like me.

Mod author. Too lazy to list mods, go here instead.
Help out the Official FTB Wiki reach a billion pages! (I keep having to update this, so let's just make it a billion)

Tekkit:Awesome but it used to be illegal
FTB:Tech and magic
Tekkit:Tech
So the winner is FTB

More popular youtubers endorse FTB
TechnicLauncher is much easier on private packs.
Nothing else.
