The "You Will Die" Mod was originally made in 96 hours for the 2013 MCP #ModJam. It's a rogue-like inspired mod which strives to make Minecraft more difficult, and rewarding, by adding traps, mystery potions, weapon stats, blessings, more dungeons, world goals, and more! For best effect, play on Hardcore mode! I do plan to continue work on this mod!
Full Feature List:
Worlds are given goals and disadvantages. Completing a goal will remove the world's disadvantage, and give you a new goal. Use /currentGoal and /currentDisadvantage to check out both of these. There are currently 7 world disadvantages and two goal types for you to discover!
Blessings. Players are given a blessing when they first join a world. You can swap out blessings at pillars that gen around the world. Use the examine key (x default) to see what blessing a pillar has. You can only have one blessing at a time. /currentBlessing will show your current blessing. Some blessings have active abilities which can be used with the hotkey (k by default). There are many blessings for you to discover!
Traps spawn all around the world and can only be seen while sneaking and within a 6 block radius. They are single use, and you can disarm them by right clicking them with nothing in hand, but be careful, because there's a 75% chance you'll fail and hurt yourself. Successful disarms have a 25% chance to drop the trap as an item. There are currently 3 different traps. You can turn off trap generation in the properties (inside the .zip). You can craft traps with their respective recipes. You aren't hurt by your own placed traps, you can disarm your own traps 100% of the time, and can always see your own traps. You can examine traps to see who placed them. Dispensers can place traps. Shears can disarm traps 100% of the time, but traps will never be salvaged.
Hostile mobs are given a level from 1-5. Levels change how much health a mob has, and level 5 mobs will be given a blessing. Use the examine key to see if a mob has a blessing.
Dungeons are 13 times more likely to gen, and above ground dungeon towers will gen with spawners and chests.
Mystery potions have a small chance to drop from mobs, and spawn in dungeon chests. There are 13 in total, 12 to discover, and a 13th wildcard potion. Once you've drank one in a world, you will permanently know that potions ability! Combine with gunpowder to create splash mystery potions.
Mystery Mushrooms gen around the world in pre-existing mushroom patches. They're given random colors per world, and each can make a specific mystery potions.
Bows, axes, and swords get a random rank from 1-5 which influences it's max bonus damage on creation. Armor gets a random rank from 1-5 which influences it's max damage reduction.
Fighting specific mobs and using specific weapon types provides bonuses to damage over time. You can check your progress with /creatureKnowledge [page] and /weaponKnowledge [page].
You can also examine blocks and mobs to see their names.

I definitely want to add more as well so players have tons of different combinations to mess with, but for now I'm definitely exhausted after working on this the last 4 days.
Looks like a very interesting mod. Will be checking it out! And for only 96 hours, very impressed in how much work was put in. I must say it has very original ideas, at least to me, idk if other mods have things like this but this is the first one to see things such as in this mod.
EDIT: Wow, Simply WoW! Amazing job man! This mod is great! I started playing with it for 15 minutes and it's made minecraft even more fun now. Mod spotlight tomorrow?

Thanks! And, if you'd like to do one, that'd be fine with me. :3
How does the attributes in this mod apply to other mods such as a bow from another mod or a custom sword? I find the level integration to be very nice (truthfully that is all I would want from this mod, and the dungeon generation increase). That leads me to ask will you allow for certain features to be disabled in the config come the future?

Yea, currently I only have traps able to be disabled, but I meant to have more, like turning of mob levels, weapon stats, world disadvantages, etc. This way you can get EXACTLY the experience you're looking for from this mod.
And attributes apply to other mods because I built a class that checks for the class of the item and mob when it's created. If it's an instance of ItemBow, it'll get bow stats, if it's an EntityMob it'll get mob stats, and so on. I did want to add an option in the properties file though that turns off applying these stats to non-vanilla things. Expect to see more options in the properties in future updates.
At first, I was like, lame, just a retext/reboot of Hack/mine. But after examining, I was clearly wrong. Good luck bro.
Hmmm, I just got an idea for a modpack...

Never played it before. I don't really use that many mods, which is kinda weird since I'm a mod developer.
Going in to mod jam though, I definitely was a bit worried that someone would have done something like this before, but I didn't really have much time to check since it was already about to begin. I think I did this mod justice though, and I definitely tried to do some cool things with the concept.
I really like the sound of this. Could you give us a few examples of the world goals? It sounds like the sort of thing that would keep me interested in Minecraft whereas at the moment I tend to drift away. I'm using an older version of Minecraft so can't download it for myself right now.
Yea, things like collect 20 diamonds, kill 16 ghasts, kill 1 ender dragon, etc. Some still need some tweaking though, since they can be a bit difficult.
There aren't all that many at the moment too since it picks from a static group of mobs and items, but I definitly want to add a few more at some point.
I'll be sure to add some screenshots soon too.

I thought ModJam mods have to be 1.6.2 though?
It is 1.6.2 ._.
It says 1.6.1 in the title doh. ._.
Whoops, that was a typo. Fixed.
the download link has 1.6.2 above it. it was just a fail ._.
EDIT: Ninja'd
Thanks!

Fixed known bugs. Tweaked one blessing and made dungeon towers a bit tougher. Added version checking.
If you find any bugs, be sure to let me know!

This is what it looks like when you join a world:
