I’m sure there are many Australians who, like me, would like to see their own animals added into minecraft. If you are one of those people, or even if you just think Australian animals are cute, then this mod is for you! With bilbies, emus, wombats and more, there’s plenty to see!
Bilbies are small, mouse-like creatures that normally settle in desert grasses. In-game, upon feeding them seeds, they will spawn hearts and follow you around. Feed them dirt to release them. They spawn in plains biomes only.
Echidnas are small anteaters with spike-covered backs as a defense measure. In-game they will deal damage to you upon hitting them with your bare hands (if you have no item equipped). Their spines can be clipped once every hour. Not to be mistaken for hedgehogs or porcupines.
Emus are large, flightless birds that run incredibly fast and lay the second largest eggs in the world. In-game they frequently lay emu eggs as small blocks, which will drop the emu egg item when destroyed.
Kangaroos are large animals that jump very high and as their main type of movement. In-game they will jump whenever they move.
Koalas are bear-like animals (although they aren’t bears). They like to live in gum trees and they eat gum leaves. In-game they are able to climb blocks unless their nails have been clipped. Their nails will grow back after an hour. They spawn in forest biomes only.
Platypi are water-dwelling animals that sleep on land. In-game they spawn in water and walk along the bottom. They close their eyelids (which are white) when under the water, and are faster in water.
Tasmanian Devils are small, black carnivorous animals about the size of a small dog. In-game they attack at night, but are passive at day. They spawn during the night only.
Wombats are also bear-like creatures that dig burrows to live in. In-game they dig some blocks, including dirt, sand, and gravel. They cannot dig if their nails have been clipped or if the game rule “mobGriefing” is false. Their nails will grow back after an hour.
Emu eggs:
Emu eggs are laid by emus frequently as the block variant, which will drop the emu egg item when destroyed.
Fur scraps:
Fur scraps are dropped from kangaroos, koalas, and bilbies upon death.
Clippers:
Clippers are used only to clip the nails of koalas and wombats, and the spines of echidnas (they may have more uses in a future update).
Koala nails:
Koala nails can be obtained from koalas upon right-clicking them while holding clippers. They can be used in crafting hooked glove panels.
Wombat nails:
Wombat nails can be obtained from wombats in the same way as nails from koalas. They can be used in crafting a pickaxe.
Echidna spines:
Echidna spines can be obtained from echidnas in the same way as nails from koalas/wombats. They currently have no use.
Hooked glove panels:
Hooked glove panels are used in the crafting of climbing gloves. They have no other use.
Climbing gloves:
Climbing gloves are gloves that allow you to climb any surface. While walking against a wall, right-click to start climbing. Continue right-clicking until you reach the top.
Wombat pickaxes:
Wombat pickaxes are pickaxes with the mining speed of gold pickaxes(faster than diamond), the strength of iron pickaxes, 200 uses (iron has 250, stone has 131), the damage of stone pickaxes, and the enchantibility of gold pickaxes (more than double diamond's enchantibility)
Strengthened wombat pickaxes:
Strengthened wombat pickaxes are pickaxes with mining speed slightly higher than gold, the strength of diamond, 1300 uses (diamond has 1561), the damage of iron, and enchantibility slightly higher than gold.
Kangaroo meat (raw)
Kangaroo meat is dropped by kangaroos on death, dropping either 1 or 2. If the kangaroo is burning when it dies, it will instead drop cooked kangaroo meat:
Raw kangaroo meat restores 1.5 drumsticks, while cooked kangaroo meat restores 4.5 drumsticks.
Emu egg omelette:
Emu egg omelette is a food made from 2 emu eggs and a bucket of milk (in any shape). It restores 2.5 drumsticks per piece.
I am currently developing the server version, and will release it soon.
Instructions for installation: (also included in readme file)
For quick and easy use of the mod, choose the easy installation. For the ability to swap between your previous version of minecraft, choose the advanced installation.
Easy Installation:
1. Navigate to your minecraft\bin folder (should be located in C:\Users\(username)\Appdata\roaming) and keep the window open.
From this point there are 2 ways to go. If you have a modded minecraft.jar (if you are running mods of any kind) then continue on to step 2. If you have a clean minecraft.jar (if you are not running mods of any kind) then you can skip to step 3.
2. If you have mods running, then you will need to erase them, otherwise the mod will not function Because of this, I recommend you make a backup of your modded minecraft.jar if you have chosen the easy installation. Whether you make the backup is your choice. After you have (or haven’t) backed up your current minecraft.jar, launch minecraft. Above the “login button” is another button labelled “options”. Click on the button, and it will open the “launcher options” window.
Now click on “force update”, then click “done”. Now log in to minecraft. It should take a few minutes to update, then you’re ready to move on to step 4.
3. Copy the class files and the three folders (lang, mob, and textures) into your minecraft.jar and delete the META-INF folder, then run minecraft to start the mod.
Advanced Installation:
1. Navigate to your minecraft\bin folder (should be located in C:\Users\(username)\Appdata\roaming). Copy the StartNormal.bat and StartAusAnimals.bat files (included in the download) into this folder.
Now make a backup (copy) of your minecraft.jar, and rename the copy to minecraft0.jar. From this point there are 2 ways to go. If you have a modded minecraft.jar (if you are running mods of any kind) then continue on to step 2. If you have a clean minecraft.jar (if you are not running mods of any kind) then you can skip to step 3.
2. If you have mods running, then you will need to erase them, otherwise the mod will not function Because of this, make a backup of your modded minecraft.jar and rename it to minecraft(0).jar.
After you have made the backup, launch minecraft. Above the “login button” is another button labelled “options”. Click on the button, and it will open the “launcher options” window.
Now click on “force update”, then click “done”. Now log in to minecraft. It should take a few minutes to update, then you’re ready to move on to step 3.
3. Make a copy of your minecraft.jar and rename it to minecraft(a).jar, then paste the class files and the three folders into it and delete the META-INF folder.
4. Run StartNormal.bat to load regular minecraft for the next time you play, or StartAusAnimals.bat to prepare the Australian Animals mod for the next time you play. Then run minecraft to play regular minecraft or minecraft with the Australian Animals mod, depending on which batch file (StartNormal.bat or StartAusAnimals.bat) you ran last.

Frequently/Possibly asked questions:
Q: I can’t find my .minecraft\bin folder! Can you help? A: When you start minecraft, before you log in, there is an options button above the login button. In the window the options button opens, there is a “Game location on disk” link. Click on that, and you will be taken to your .minecraft folder. Now click on “bin”. You are now inside the .minecraft\bin folder!
Q: The installation is too hard! Is there any other way to do it? A: There are 2 ways of installing the mod, there is the simple way, where you just paste the class files and the folders into your minecraft.jar, and there is the advanced installation. If you are trying the advanced installation and you find it too difficult to follow, try the simple installation. However, if you are determined to use the advanced installation, don’t try to keep all the steps in your head. Do each step as you read it, then move on to the next, so you don’t have to deal with so much information.
Q: Can I make a review of this? A: Of course! Although if you are going to make a review and you want it to be on the main page, you will have to contact me about it.
Q: This mod needs forge! A: Firstly, that’s not really a question. Secondly, I don’t know forge. I will try to learn it, but at the moment, I can’t promise forge compatibility. Sorry, but I just don’t know forge. I hope to create an easier installation using the new minecraft launcher at some point, but at the moment my priorities lie elsewhere.
Q: What to you use for your modelling/texturing? A: I use Techne for my modelling. It’s a great model maker, with lots of neat functions, including an export function. I use Paint.NET for my texturing. It’s free, it supports transparency, and it has tools for noise, gradient, blurring, etc.
Sure, thanks! I have no idea about this mod when it comes to compatibility with other mods (although I have my doubts), so it would be great if you could do that. I'm a big fan of mo creatures as well, but then whenever minecraft updates I have to wait for not only the mod itself to update, but also modloader and other mods it relies on, which is why I make my mods standalone (which also reduces compatibility, unfortunately).
Awesome Idea! I'm sure this took a very long time.... +1 Rep for you!
Thankyou! It did take quite a while, and there were plenty of problems along the way, but it was worth it in the end. Announcement: beta testing will be closed starting from tomorrow for 2 weeks, as I am going on holiday and will not be active on the minecraft forums. Any updates will also be postponed.
your link is broken btwand also maybe try modding with forge. Forge updates before the full release so as soon as the pre-release comes out for a new update forge updates and gives modders a head start
