Im trying to find a work around for making Steel tools that doesnt involve Chainmail or adding a mod that adds Steel but a shiz load more junk that I'd never use or using the complicated Steelworks addon.
Well, it's no intra-mod solution, but you should already be able to do that with TE fluiducts. Just use a pneumatic servo to filter the metals.
problem is, i dont use TE in my world. it doesnt fit with the low tech/magical theme. this would however be a great addition to tinkers construct itself.

I think it would be cool for mDiyo to add a recipe where you smelt iron and coal to make steel.

The problem with that is it would either need to be REALLY expensive on the coal or have to take a long time to melt the coal.
Because the main way to get steel in most packs is with the Railcraft blast furnace. If you cut out the blast furnace, there needs to be some balance. To stop people from just making a stack of steel in the smeltery really fast and cheap, then using it for Railcraft stuff.
why dont you go ahead and search pigjackeys mods, he is a modder that makes realy basic mods that add 1 or 2 new things, he already created an easier steel mod, go ahead and check it out =D
I looked him up, and that's exactly the kind of Steel mod I want, but it's a 1.5.2 mod and Im using 1.6.4

There's at least one more good line in that console.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
Why not just add a recipe to create some sort of combination of Coal and Iron ingots in a crafting table, then smelting the result, to get a steel ingot? The custom recipes mod works wonders for these things. You could also go with Minetweaks, but I find the custom recipes syntax to be easier to work with. Or perhaps have a crafting recipe using Coal, Iron ingots, and a bucket of magma, which would heat the two materials and combine them into a Steel ingot. To balance it, have mutliple Iron ingots used for each Steel ingot produced, and perhaps use Coal blocks instead of single units of coal.

mDiyo hasn't done anything of the sort because he doesn't want to; he really just added steel for the sake of compatibility with other mods, seeing how common it is across the board. He was already being rather generous with allowing the melting down of chainmail for steel.

Also, I've flipped shovel textures for Tinker's Construct and ExtraTiC for a more realistic-looking animation, check here: http://www.minecraft...hovel-textures/

Yet in order to easily get chainmail, you need another mod or something where Minecraft's default recipe for it is Fire, which you cant really get legit.
There are two reasons I added steel: Mod compatibility and addons. I had the feeling that if addons took off someone would do something interesting in steel, and that something would go beyond what the Smeltery could do. Melting chainmail was more that I couldn't figure out what the material was, and it sort of resembled steel...
The real process for making steel is much more involved than melting down metals. It's also more modern and doesn't fit with the mod's theme.
StigZG: Gravel ores having the snow material is a hack of a workaround and there's no decent way to do it otherwise. It's technically both a bug and intentional behavior.
NJM1564: The saw sound stays. You must love it >:3
DragonScythe: Miniature green hearts are not available outside of creative. Bacon is tasty!
HardstyleTaco: The mechs are not part of TConstruct. Also, boob bongs.
Sorry if I was misunderstood, I didn't mean the idea of a steel recipe to be an idea for mDiyo to add to the mod, as I figured out long ago that Steel wasn't something that was meant to be too intricately worked into TCon itself, else there would be some other means of obtaining it.
What I had intended was for the user requesting some method of obtaining Steel to download and use either Minetweaks or Custom Recipes to add a crafting or smelting recipe to their game that would allow them to obtain Steel without smelting Chain armor.
Honestly, though, I would have thought that the fact that I referred directly to using Minetweaks and CustomRecipes in the post would have been sufficient to convey that thought...oh well, that's the internet for ya.
I'm going to ask because I'm sure I'm missing something. I have been trying to get blood and/or liquid emerald from smelting various creatures and villagers and I'm having no luck. I have 8mB of molten gold sitting in my smeltery for the unlucky creatures to smelt in but they all just take it in stride.
Posts in this forum do mention that getting both had been removed, but those were almost 9 months ago. One post in December indicated that they couldn't do this either but I have seen a working emerald "farm" on Direwolf20's Server Play series when he toured another players base, posted maybe 2 weeks ago. (S6E22)
Thanks in advance for any assistance in this, even if it's just to tell me it doesn't work any more.

i would like a far less realistic bow system; currently, the TC bows are a joke (No offense, mDiyo.) Just make it simple yet cool, like the More Bows mod in Hexxit: the higher degree of value the metal has, the stronger and faster the bow will be.

I also realize that, just thought it would be cool, as that is how it is actually formed. Just add in a "carbonator" (for lack of a better term) to the side of a smelter. When you add coal or charcoal, it infuses the iron in the smeltery with the carbon from them.

Thats not how TCon works, different materials have different attributes. any sort of metal bow will be hard to pull. A slime bow with redstone can do a full pull in less then a second. Add in so manyu. tipped arrows with quartz, and you have a formidable bow.
It would be interesting to add some sort of Infinity modifier to bows, but at the cost of multiple modifier slots. The only issue I can see with that (other than just what you would use for the modifier) is that it breaks with the semi-realism of TCon.

Alumite's a better choice anyway.
