I tried, but whenever I load up a minecraft world, my minecraft crashes.
Heres how i got it to work:
1. Install forge (558 is most recent) Also do not forget, when installing forge you do NOT delete Meta-Inf (yet) only the MOJANG files in Meta-inf
2. run minecraft
3. Forge will fail, and the log says to download 6 or 7 files from forge, the old ones are outdated
4. Run minecraft
5. Close after it loads to title screen
6. Go delete Meta-Inf and drag files from Optifine 1.5 to your Minecraft.jar
7. Run Minecraft
At that point everythings loading fine for me, only thing i noticed is im above this chunk (picture below) that didnt load even after re-logging

I don't have forge so I can't comment on that, but, I just wanted to say that I love this mod. It was the first one I downloaded and I love all the graphic options. I noticed a huge difference in performance when I started using it. without it, it took forever for new chunks to load, and now I don't even notice chuncks anymore, the world is smooth and seemless.
anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to update optifine for 1.5 and I am anxiously yet patiently awaiting the finished product. I am using one of your "beta" versions for 1.5 and its decent, but, Magic Launcher marks it as having errors (understandable since its not a finished product yet).
Hmm, I have A4 for 1.5 working with the newest forge as well. A bit of console spam when starting up, but it's working. For the record I'm using MultiMC and just dropped it in the instmods folder and rebuilt the jar, so that's 2 methods working so far.
However, it does totally get confused on mod textures, default or otherwise and I just got attacked by invisible zombies..so I'll just wait till the next release when it is officially supporting forge
This is because the full version isn't out yet. The current pre-release of it does not support modloader or forge. You're going to have to wait until a full version comes out with compatibly for forge and modloader.
Excellent. Thank you for the info. I do appreciate it. And God bless this mod and all those who support it.

Just wondering, why not get this mod added into vanilla minecraft? Mojang could update it for every update and snapshot and it would make everyone happy,
What do you mean in the main post with "ModLoader compatibility - TODO"? I tried it with modloader like 2 or 3 days ago and no problems
It means that I have not checked if OptiFine is still compatible with ModLoader. The ModLoader functionality from 1.4.7 is inside the preview version, but ModLoader 1.5 may have changed.
Done when it's done. An exact time couldn't be given even if they wanted to. Too many variables when it comes to coding
Some of the bugs found when testing the almost finished version may reveal a general problem that can not be solved and I have to go back to the drawing board again and find another way.
Minecraft 1.5 adds a new way of handling the terrain textures and many of the old approaches do not work. The new solution can be easy (but slow) or fast (but complex). Finding the right balance takes time. Also I can not modify too many base classes or the Forge compatibility will become nightmare, so I try to work with the classes that I already have. The whole process is generally interesting.
I love Optifine, my FPS without it is usually around 20-30 but with Optifine I've been reaching as high as 120 FPS,and all the features it gives you under your video settings are great, thank you
Hello I dont know if this is already sugested so dont be mad but you could remove "Texture Pack..." option since vannila minecraft already works even inside the game(on 1.5) thank you for your time
Oh and sorry for crappy english Im potuguese

This is known, but I have not investigated it yet.
Texture pack?
You can donate to OptiFine here: http://optifine.net/donate.php
Yes.

TODO
This is impressive.
It will be removed.
