I was making a resource pack and I wanted to rename the name of the music that the disk plays. If someone could tell me how to rename the music that the music disks play, it would be most appreciated. Thanks.
Go to your .jar file and copy out the folder located in - assets > lang > en_US.lang (or whatever language file you want to include with your resource pack)
After this, open it with a more advanced editor than notepad. Use an editor like TextWrangler, Sublime Text 2, Notepad++, your choice
Once you open the file, you should see the text for everything in the game, so just do a search for the music you want to change, and that's it! Just save it, place it in your resource pack in the assets > lang folder and you are good to go!
EDIT* Well, I checked just to verify, and I couldn't actually find the names of the songs, it's possible that it gets the names from the music itself, and in that case I don't think you could change them without a mod. But possibly if you change the names of the songs and try playing them it might work?
I've been trying to find the same thing. I don't really think there is a way to do it other than going strait into the code of minecraft itself. If someone does find a way though it would be nice if they could say how to change how it appears in-game (not like in the lang file but when it pops up in rainbow colors saying C418 - Cat).

*sigh* ...I'd really like to know this too. It would be a tremendous pain to attempt to remember all the modded music discs by their ORIGINAL name. It's not just for me either. I'm producing a resource pack and its receiving some notable attention, only it can't go much further if there is a failure to implement the music properly. Don't get me wrong, C418's music is somewhat pleasant but I am having some serious hopes in adding some mad jams from none other than Koji Kondo himself for my recent resource pack, SNEScraft. With a desire to integrate some high-quality music, hopefully while providing thorough credit, I'm diligently planning to put this into full motion, granted that I am not stopped by the music disc naming incompatibility.
These titles are coded in a certain class, changing the name of the songs will make them unplayable since minecraft won't recognize them anymore...
I'll offer you a non-HD version that works even better
Code yes, but it isn't hard.
I had the same problem for my resource pack, and haven't found it in the language files, so I asked a good friend.
He came up with a little tweak that modifies the yk.class, the decompiled source can be found here: https://www.dropbox....decompiled.java
The lines 85 - 108 are interesting, these are the custom record titles (adapted to my pack)
I don't consider THIS as mod, it's more of a tweak (you only need to change these parts and send it to sb to recompile it )
Since many guys needed that reply, feel free to pin it (@moderators)...
Upvote that reply if it helped you helpful, It's bad If I need to post this reply multiple times (like I already did)
Best wishes

Interesting solution, Piano_Creeper. I feel that you have brought a light upon my ever most dreary perception on solving this issue. I downloaded the decompiled code sequence, I will attempt to look into. However, I am currently unfamiliar with this terminology that you present to me, such as "sb".
I'm glad that you posted this, and I'm surprised that this isn't so well-known. I also up'd your comment. LOL, lovely selection of music you added there, BTW.
I was surprised too, but I answered the same question for the 5th time here... and I fixed the terminology as good as possible...
The music... I'll change that soon in my personal pack to own records (of me playing the piano)
I could get in slight troubles due to copyright infringements otherwise.
When i download the drop box file what do I do with it to change the disk names, drag it into the en_US.LANG file in my resource pack? sorry for being a noob ):
So, does that mean that I would have to give everyone I want to give my pack to this new yk file separately? or is there a way to have it automatically in the resource pack. Because this way, even when the originals are played, it would still say the new text. Thank you

Currently you can change this just by editing the language files. It's just a text file, but with the extension ".lang". You can find the lines you want to change and delete everything else in that file. As with most other things in Resource Packs, Minecraft will fill in missing values with its own default so you needn't worry about either bloating your pack with useless text or causing problems for end users.
