Ok, that was a huuuuge P.I.T.A. but the world is up and running. We have about a 5 hour rollback. I lost stuff from the last 5 hrs, too, so I apologize for the inconvenience and downtime. I got frustrated with the whole thing and shut it down to go to a New Years party last night.
This is what happened, because I think that it's important for you guys to know. We've had a griefer or two that think it's hilarious to use TNT on their neighbors' houses. Since there are no plugins for FTB, the only clues I can get to what happened come from the Forge logs which are like reading Chinese braille. So, I backed up the world and tried to change a value in the invtweaks.txt file from 46 to 0 for TNT. Apparently, the server didn't like this. At all. I couldn't restore the world last night or even get ANY of the saved worlds to work. Someone just logged in and told me that a slew of servers were down last night, so perhaps it was coincidental timing when this all happened that I couldn't get the server going again. I have no clue.
Any time I go to the FTB forums to ask a question, even if I get an answer at all, it's something vague like, "Just alter your config files, man." I suppose they heard some admin talk once about changing the .cfg files, so they think it's somehow helpful to tell me that.
But I do have a bead on who you griefers are. I know of the little feud that is ongoing with a few of you and who is part of it. I have told the server that if you want to build forts and have a war, then that's fine as long as all parties agree to the war beforehand. You haven't done that. You're sneaking over to your neighbor's house and "chicken bombing" or whatever it is you guys call it. THIS WILL STOP. If I have to erase the entire g*dd**n whitelist to make it stop, then I will. When you applied for this server, you read the large print on the title that says no griefing. This means that you are a liar if you agreed to sign up for a nongriefing server yet are now griefing.
From now on, I will start booting people if I even get a whiff of you griefing or stealing. I'm a guy that likes proof before I kick anyone, but since Bukkit and Forge can't seem to get along, I have no way of proving anything until someone comes out with a solution. This problem isn't unique to this server; it's a problem for all FTB admins. If you are found snooping around someone's house or going through a chest that isn't yours, then I will ban you on the spot. I haven't been sneaking around and TPing to spy on people because I've always hated when admins do that crap. But I am going to start watching all of you until we can find the bad guy. I'm not a mean fellow, but you have no business snooping around someone else's house. It's not fair to the honest players to whom I've promised an honest server to have a couple of jackholes blowing up their hard work.
If you enjoy this very stable, smooth server we have, then you'll abide by the rules you agreed to or else you're gone. You've been warned.
xILukasIx, Lewisjay1, and PlazmaXD, we're glad to have you.
Harvz4, your ban was an autoban for destroying 10 honeypot griefer bait blocks. No thanks.
We've got quite a number of members online right now, so I'm going to stop accepting applications for the moment. Recruiting for this server is CLOSED. Thanks.
Do you have any experience with the FTB modpack?: no
What do you look for in a server?: Friendly staff and uptime
Do you understand that there is no griefing or stealing? absolutely
Do you accept that foul language is allowed on this server? yes, i don't mind it
If you have a prior ban, then please explain your side of things: I don't have a prior ban If you enjoy this very stable, smooth server we have, then you'll abide by the rules you agreed to or else you're gone. You've been warned.
The crash today actually generated an understandable crash report. Apparently there's a bug in IC2 where the values for a part of the nuclear reactor in the IC2.cfg do not match the number that the world map uses. As we learned earlier when I tried to change the value of TNT to "0" to combat a couple of griefers, Minecraft doesn't like numbers that don't match. Until today, we haven't had an issue with the reactor part because no one had yet crafted a reactor.
I've altered the value, and I'm testing the server alone to see if it'll smooth itself out. I had immediately launched the server after changing the values and several people joined at once and it crashed on us. So, I removed the whitelist and I'm letting the server rest a bit with just me inside.
The map it generated is now the one that we originally had this morning which means we had a rollback/rollforward. If this doesn't make sense, just log in and you'll see what I mean. I can't control this type of stuff through Forge. If I had a degree in Java and C++ and whatever else Forge and FTB use, perhaps I could. If the professional programmers coding the FTB still make mistakes, then I surely will, too. I will continue to do the best I can with an inefficiently coded Beta version of this game, and I hope you'll bear with me patiently.
I'm going to re-add the whitelist and open it up to see if it's steady again with more people. It's been running smoothly with just me in-game for the last 30 min. Cross your fingers.
EDIT: And I have discovered that it rains just as much with just me in-game as when the server is open. Perhaps no one has a rainmaker afterall.
Brandon, just saying thanks for your dedication for this server and giving us all the chance to play it, im sure others appreciate it as much as i do, i can understand how this can be frustrating and such but thanks for your dedication and patients

Still working on it. Have a decent clue as to what else may be the troubs. The timing of a certain event corresponds with the lag spikes. Will update you when I see if it works.
The spill is cleaned up, and I've reopened the whitelist. As far as I know, if the map wasn't corrupted by the spill, then we should be stable and smooth.
We're going to be -1 on the whitelist. Dixie, you were an active and enjoyable member to have around, but I've warned you once before about not using a void pipe. Yes, you attached one this time in case I came by to check, but you still had no items going it from your diamond sorter. There's no way anyone should think that a couple of recyclers could handle all those trash blocks. And don't blame the crashes. You can't contribute to crashing and lag then blame them for not having it set up correctly.
No one NEEDS ALL THESE TRASH BLOCKS. Put your trash into a void pipe if you can't figure out how to handle the massive amounts of stuff that comes out of a quarry. I have spent hour and hours the last two days pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is causing the trouble and here you are spilling over 3000 blocks onto the ground. I went to bed at 6:30 this morning trying to figure this out.
If you've forgotten about this post that I added to the front page in red, I will refresh your memory: "- From now on, if you are tied to lag, and if you can't resolve it in a timely manner, then I have no choice but to remove you from the whitelist. FTB doesn't yet have the plugins for me to check problems. If people are telling you that the server was smooth all day until you logged in, then that means you need to fix your problem. If you have pipes with 10,000 items inside running in a loop or if you're leaking blocks onto the ground, you need to clean it up and stop the leak. It's not fair to the players that one or two people create lag machines. I have asked and asked until I'm blue in the face, but laggy players are gaffing it off. I'm not being mean, I'm just tired of a few people messing up an otherwise smooth server. Thanks."
I apologize to the rest of you for the lag and downtime.
that didnt cause the crashes before..this just happend not to long ago, also i had moved the void pipe to the diamond sorter and put gravel/sand going there and had built more recyclers for the cobble/dirt and it was working fine untill it crashed and everything i did was gone again. if you look at ur inbox i even sent u a message telling you about this but then u started working on the server and i couldnt do anythign about it cuz it was already 3 am here and i was tired as hell and already tried fixing it for so long. i even got half of the blocks that spilled out and i was like 5 blocks away from the rest..if u had just waited a min or 2 i would of got the rest
That chunk is clean but the chunk is acting screwy any time I go to it. I will bring the server up and see if it won't rest a minute with just me alone inside.
