I've recently built a new gaming computer, but forgot a wireless adapter, because I completely neglected it. I bought a usb wireless adapter (which I now regret) and had to buy a usb extension cord too after 2 weeks of using it to improve connection. My packetloss is 2% according to pingtest.net and gives me a "C" as a grade. In online games that are fast paced (starconflict, tf2, etc.) I stutter around a lot and everything stops moving every 10 seconds. This is basically unplayable for me, and I want to know if there is any way to improve it.
Just get the cheapest PCIe wireless adapter you can find.
I had worse connection with my pci wireless adapter than I do with my current USB one, it's not just an end all solution to the problem.
I would try and borrow another usb one if you can from somebody you know, see if it's just your one or not. If it is your one then you can decide what to do from there.

Well, I know it's my usb adapter because none of the computer in my house had this problem except the one I built. The macbooks and imacs we use are fine, as well as my sister windows laptop. I believe it is my usb, but is there any way I can improve it right now and spend cash later?
ok, thanks for all the replies. I'll be sure to research and order a new wireless adapter soon.
why can't you do a cable?

Proud member of the MCF AWA war of '13! if someone suggests Alienware or Cyberpower, wait for a custom-built list from someone who knows their stuff. Meh Rig
Some people don't want cables running through their corridors and it isn't always the easiest thing to get them installed through walls depending on the house.
alright alright. i need a 30ft long one though for that. is it a worthy investment? I don't like that my sister could snip the cord while i'm using it if i make her angry lol.
@op where i live 25ft is about $15. it is VERY worth it.

If you have a dog i would consider not leaving a cable running along your house.
I used to have a cable but i had to switch to wireless because my dog wanted to chew the cable so badly.

yes, very worth it. More reliable speeds, lower latency and 0 packet loss. Instead of running it on the floor of your house you should run it through your walls (just like your electricity).

You can also always run it under the house. Put it through the floor then up again where your router is.
This is my wireless adapter: http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wireless-adapters/work-and-play/WNA3100M.aspx
I am also looking for a good wireless card to go on my mobo instead of using this crap usb.

Chance for packet loss increase EXPONENTIALLY with wireless compared to wired.
